🛑Radical prostatectomy is a surgical procedure done to treat prostate cancer. 📍It involves removal of the entire prostate gland, and often seminal vesicles too. 📍To cure prostate cancer that hasn’t spread beyond the prostate. ⚡Types: 📍Open surgery – A cut is made in the lower belly. 📍Laparoscopic surgery – Small cuts with long tools and a camera. 📍Robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery – Robot arms controlled by the surgeon help remove the prostate more precisely. ⚡What is removed? 📍The prostate gland 📍Often the seminal vesicles 📍Sometimes nearby lymph nodes ⚡Possible side effects: 📍Urine leakage (incontinence) 📍Erection problems (impotence) 📍Pain or scarring (short-term) ⚡Recovery: 📍Hospital stay: 1–2 days (or more with open surgery) 📍Catheter in bladder: ~1 week 📍Full recovery: few weeks to a few months.

I'm sharing a #RARP after a #HOLEP. The patient I operated on two years ago was completely asymptomatic, however, he presented with an elevated PSA of 2.4 ng/ml, when he had previously managed below 1 ng/ml. I ordered an MRI and PET scan PSMA, followed the protocol, and performed the radical prostatectomy. The enucleation appears to have been perfect, and it's interesting to see the completely clear prostatic bed inside. Do you routinely follow up your Holep patients even if they are asymptomatic?
