Oregon has one of the shortest school years in the nation. Just over the river in Vancouver, the average K-12 student receives one year more of instructional time than students in our state. A recent poll showed that 80% of Oregonians support requiring local school districts to provide at least the national average of school days. Your kids deserve a world-class education, and on Day One I will work to increase classroom time and give teachers the resources they need so that all Oregon students and teachers can be successful.

The teachers and students of Muhammad Buhari College for Science and Arabic Studies, built as a charitable project, paid a condolence visit to the family and loved ones of His Excellency, Baba Buhari. The school is being supported by Baba Buhari and his family through sponsoring students who are engaged in learning sciences and Arabic studies. One of the pupils being sponsored by Baba Buhari's family was directed by his teacher to offer supplications for Baba and all our departed loved ones. There are other similar schools being supported by the family. The school has around 450 students. Professor Isa Ali Pantami, who received them on behalf of the family and associates, appreciated the condolences. May Allah admit Baba Buhari into Jannatul Firdaus.

Why can’t our classrooms look like our governors office? Fulani headsmen have driven most children and teachers from coming to school. Mosquito infestation in California school: After my viral video yesterday, 22 teachers from a different school have now come forward to me about Rancho San Diego Elementary making teachers and kids sick in the Cajon Valley School District. Teachers are reporting a mosquito infestation: The cold air from air conditioning causes condensation in the ceilings above kids heads that breeds mosquitoes. Teachers say this is causing sick days for teachers and students. Meanwhile, Superintendent David Miyashiro earns nearly half a million in total compensation and drives a $100,000 Lucid Aire paid for and provided by taxpayer dollars. Call the Superintendent’s office 619-588-3005 our kids’ health & teacher’s health can’t wait.

On this name Bias thing.... My daughter was telling me about how the experience of "japa kids" in her school with ethnic names majorly differs to "japa kids" without ethnic names. I added the japa element to highlight the obvious accent. And this is from teachers and peers. They even have a name for them 😔 As i went through highschool in the west, i found it extremely frustrating dealing with the eyerolls from teachers whenever they had to say my name and then peers intentionally saying it wrong! Unfortunately, this extends to the professional world as well. We live in a crazy society.

We teach our students entrepreneurship from a young age. This is an annual flea market where students bring their used toys, books and anything they don’t want to school to sell to their fellow schoolmates and even teachers. Before the market starts, we teach them how to advertise, price, negotiate and give change. This way, they can learn the art of buying and selling, get rid of things they don’t want and have fun. These are practical skills and knowledge that we should also give our children in Nigeria. Not all of them, but some of them will find their calling in business and can start at a young age. Our teachers have an instrumental role to play in teaching them, encouraging them and gaining other skills other than just teaching students what is in text books. The online world now is providing more opportunities to do business, and kids should be in this action. It will sow seeds for our future business ecosystem and add more value to our economy.
