SCOTUS is literally deciding whether to do away with the Voting Rights Act. We need a democracy movement and to speak out at No Kings this weekend. Democracy is never of a kind where the same party will ever come to power. We have seen in our lifetimes, the change takes place at state level, at panchayat level, at municipal level, that's a democratic process. But one thing is for sure, there has to be continuity of development, continuity of our civilisational ethos, and that comes only from one aspect. We must respect democratic culture. India is perhaps the only country in the world that has constitutionally structured democracy at all levels. Before 30 years, we had constitutional democracy only in the State legislature and Parliament. But now we have constitutional democracy at the village level, at panchayat level, and the district level. #RajyaSabha

I am simply awe-inspired to have the privilege of serving in the House - a body Abraham Lincoln once served in and a chamber where they passed the 13th and 14th Amendment, where women got the right to vote, and where the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act became law. We are called to be stewards of the world's longest ongoing democracy. It's a responsibility none of us should take lightly.

People can’t take the law onto their hands because we have laws and we not a banana republic.
