This aircraft is among the MiG-23s that survived the extensive Israeli airstrikes against Syrian military air bases following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. On April 29, 2013, National Airlines Flight 102 took off from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan loaded with five armored vehicles. An improperly secured vehicle shifted rearward during takeoff, smashing into the rear bulkhead of the 747 and disabling the rear control surfaces. This caused an uncontrollable pitch up maneuver, followed by a stall and crash. At the time, the aircraft was operating under the United States Air Force’s Air Mobility Command. 7 people on board were killed in the accident.
