Reports are emerging of a significant Houthi assault on the Saudi backed Yemen Emergency Forces encampment near Marib, Yemen with several casualties reported. This video purports to show the aftermath of one of the attacks, though it has not been verified. Marib is the internationally recognized Yemeni government's last major stronghold in northern Yemen and is home to critical oil and gas infrastructure. Despite the defeat and dissolution of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) after Saudi Arabia's 🇸🇦 offensive, South Yemen 🇾🇪 civilians continue to protest. The STC was the UAE 🇦🇪 backed militia that was controling part of South Yemen and launched a large offensive that nearly managed to merge the pro-saudi internationnaly recognized Yemen and the STC into a single state in late december 2025. Since Yemen is already cut between the north (Houthis rebels, shia muslim) and the south/east (STC, gov., sunni muslim), part of the southern population wanted to revive South Yemen/South Arabia state., which was already independant between 1967 and 1990. When the STC launched its offensive, it didn't face any large resistance and was welcomed by part of the population. However, the situation quickly reversed when Saudi Arabia and Yemen's army intervened and destroyed in a few days the dreams of independence of the pro-UAE STC. However, the population continues to widely protest in most of South Yemen's cities, calling for independence. For now, this is not the KSA's priority since it would prefer a unified state to two Yemeni states at its southern border. A pro-Iran and pro-Emirati state at its southern border would have been a nightmare for Riyadh...

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on UAE: The UAE has now decided to leave Yemen, and I think if that indeed is the case and the UAE has completely left the issue of Yemen, then the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will take responsibility. I think that will be the building block for making sure that the relationship with the UAE continues strong and continues to serve the interest not just of both countries, but the region.

Speaking to Al Mayadeen on Monday, Professor Mohammad Marandi said that Yemen has the ability to inflict “far greater damage” on Saudi Arabia than Riyadh can inflict on Yemen. He explained that Saudi Arabia has major and costly infrastructure, including oil facilities, whose destruction or damage would severely impact its economy. Yemen, however, “because of years of siege and because of the genocidal war,” does not have similarly expensive infrastructure that could be targeted. Regarding Iran’s position, Professor Marandi stressed that Tehran has consistently encouraged Saudi Arabia to pursue rapprochement with Yemen. “For Iran, it is very upsetting that one of its civilian airliners when it's about to land would be threatened by the Saudis in this way.
