The "People's Conference for Palestine" just held in Detroit was arguably the most horrific, embarrassing, vile, and disturbing display of pro-violence, pro-terror, anti-Western, antisemitic, pro-Hamas, anti-civilizational, subversive, shady, questionable, damaging, unhelpful, and regressive views and stances by speakers from the so-called "pro-Palestine movement" in the West. What is disturbing is that many of these individuals do not know the basic greetings of Islam, which begin with “As-salamu alaykum”– peace be upon you. The word Salaam, or peace, is mentioned so frequently in the Quran and Hadith, and is a central component of the Muslim faith, which many Islamists like to refer to as the religion of peace, that this Mayor is completely ignoring. Reducing peace, which is something that many in Gaza are yearning for, and something Palestinian civilians view as a privilege and necessity, is a deeply problematic act of clueless Westerners misappropriating the Palestinian cause. Normalize peace; peace is courageous and smart, not weak and treacherous. Resistance in Gaza and Lebanon has been a dismal failure and has caused the destruction of both peoples and societies.
