Really good stuff here from Jay Wright “The most open you will ever be is when you first catch the ball….The habits of most players is to catch and dribble or catch and hold” Great teaching point (Via Coach Pat Casey 🎥)

@Coach_PatCasey Kon Knueppel did this as well as any freshman I’ve seen last year for Duke. He set up his drive with his shot.

Fundamental keys of “catch play.” Specifically improving your ability to receive the baseball … using good “actions” to catch the ball. It’s the first thing coaches, recruiters and scouts notice while watching you throw. Do you catch the ball “cleanly? Do you dominate the catch?” And do you develop good habits by moving your feet (within reason) to receive the ball inside your shoulders… which allows for a quicker transition to throw. This is especially important for infielders and catchers. And as simple as this next point might seem, do you know when to catch with 2 hands vs 1? All of these keys (baseball IQ) are touched on in this 101 level video. Dirt Bro Diamond Training @TaberMongeroDBB #DoingDirtWork

AJ Brown got CALLED OUT by his own childhood hero💀 Tom Brady via New Heights: “One game you’re going to catch 11 balls, another game you’re going to get 3… I can’t have you the happiest guy ever when you catch 11, and the most miserable guy on the team when you catch 3.” “If you have that volatile emotional output, it takes a lot of energy from a lot of people to get that player stable.”

The successful catch shaking animation is different than almost-catch, starting from the very first shake. For a long time I felt like I've "somehow known" when a catch is a success, on the first shake. I suspected that actually I was just getting lucky and letting confirmation bias get the best of me. But no! Here is a successful catch (pinkish ghost) overlayed with a near miss. You can see the successful catch shakes are slower, making it appear to lag behind. So you really can train your brain to spot the difference after all 😁

Receiving the baseball is one of the most overlooked fundamentals in the game. The way you catch the ball is one of the first things coaches, recruiters, and scouts notice. Do you receive it cleanly? Do you dominate the catch? Do your feet put you in position to make an efficient transition into your throw? For infielders and catchers, those details matter. So does knowing when to catch with one hand versus two. This 101-level video covers the fundamental actions that build cleaner catches, quicker transfers, and better baseball IQ. Master the simple things, and the difficult plays become much easier. Trent Mongero #DoingDirtWork

Everyone should be playing 3x3 No Dribble The benefits of 3x3 No Dribble are endless. Offensively it’s Turning n Facing on the catch, being strong with the ball, getting open, finding cuts, etc. Defensively it’s digging in and being aggressive, getting in the passing lanes, denying, etc. But the most important reason, is because players STINK AT PASSING AGAINST PRESSURE. This works on that unscripted and in real time. Get to it!!

Kevin Durant is still the most complete basketball player in the world. No wasted movement. Off the catch, off the dribble, back to the basket, middy, three ball, finishing at the rim and he defends. Year 18. Pure hooper.
