Really gotta stop with these in-game interviews. I’m sure being mic’d up played some non-zero role in the lack of communication on the field and this play ultimately not being made. “I didn’t want to interfere with anything,” says the sheepish commentator.

It did play zero role. You call the ball if you know you can get it and say nothing if you don’t. Clearly no one had it. Nico also had the presence of mind to know Tucker would crash to the same spot and diverted. 100% perfect execution from Nico. Bad example to prove your take

i was hoping one time it would fuck up a play so it would stop

The whole thing just sends my normally calm and even-keeled mom into a blind fury.

Yeah, what's wrong with talking to the players while they're spectators in the dugout and not doing a job?

They’re so dumb, let them focus on the game.. it’s not necessary.

It adds zero value to the broadcast. But why was Tucker a mute there? Shouldn’t he be calling that ball?

If mic’ing up players is what it takes to get people to watch, it’s probably time to just let baseball disappear into the cornfield.

He reacted quickly so I see no evidence that the interview effected him but, nevertheless, these interviews are totally inappropriate.

Putting a mic on players is a gimmick just like the ghost runner on second to start extra innings.

In game interviews are almost as bad as giving up 33% of the TV screen to televise the player being interviewed instead of televising 100% of the game. NEPTA getting rid of mid game interviews.

These broadcast channels pretty much ruined college sports, now trying to ruin MLB.

This was so cringe. He’s a step slow because he is not 100% focused on the play. He did drop something about A’s moving to Sacramento is messed up.

What we learned from this video -- and many other plays recently (looking at you Edmundo Sosa & Johan Rojas) -- is that some non-zero number of MAJOR LEAGUE ballplayers don't know how to call for the ball or know who is in charge in the outfield.
