Is it just me, or did the projected path shift slightly northward, closer to Jamaica? 🤔 Either way, she is still moving towards the west-northwest, and she remains a high-end Category 4 hurricane, knocking on the door of Category 5.

Category 4 Hurricane Genevieve has hit a NEW peak intensity, with sustained winds of 155 MPH and a core pressure of 929 MBAR. This now makes her the most intense East Pacific Hurricane to form in the month of July in 7 years, and is only ~2 MPH shy of CATEGORY 5 status.

Hurricane season starts today. Here’s why we expect it to be a quieter than normal year in the Atlantic. The relatively hotter East Pacific due to a Super El Niño overpowers the near waters of the Atlantic. Rising air, thunderstorms and hurricanes in the East Pacific should subdue the Caribbean with sinking air, wind shear, and less storms. But less storms does not equal no storms. The RED and the PINK on these maps are what ALL OF US in Central Florida need to prepare for as Hurricane Milton moves toward us. That red section on the top map is where the National Hurricane Center says the risk of destructive hurricane force winds (74+ mph) will be. The pink on the bottom map shows the areas that will see "significant risk of life-threatening flash and urban flooding" from Wednesday into Thursday. Hurricane Milton is a powerful, dangerous storm. Check out CATEGORY 4 Hurricane #Erin with a pin hole eye and stout donut eye wall visible on Puerto Rico radar. The stronger Hurricane continues to push west with the help of beta drift. A northward shift just prior to the USA is still expected, but we need to watch this like a hawk in NC OBX.

The latest cone from the NHC really illustrates the potential for Melissa to combine all of the worst elements of a Hurricane’s impact. A track like this would allow Melissa to explode in intensity while also dropping huge quantities of rain, yes. But the storm surge in this scenario may be a truly life-threatening factor as well. Notice here that the right-front quadrant of the Hurricane would funnel Caribbean saltwater directly into the bowl-shaped bays of SE Jamaica. The parishes there are some of the highest population centers on the island, so if you have a slow-moving Category 4+ storm take a landfall path like this, it could be a very treacherous situation for low-lying coastal areas.

In the blink of an eye, Pacific Hurricane Genevieve has wildly exceeded her forecast from last night. Originally anticipated to hit a brief Category 3 peak, Genevieve’s winds have suddenly exploded in the last 24 hours, doubling from 60 MPH to 120 MPH. A 150 MPH, near-Category 5 maximum intensity is now predicted by the NHC; and if that verifies, then Genevieve is without a doubt on the verge of becoming a visually spectacular fish storm.

The Philippines can’t catch a break in the wake of Typhoon Kalmaegi (TinoPH), because just as that system heads deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, a new leviathan has emerged from the depths of the Pacific. On the right side of this satellite loop is Tropical Storm Fung-wong, a sprawling embryonic cyclone in the Philippine Sea. She may be weak and disorganized now, but the environment ahead is going to be favorable for rapid intensification. The island of Luzon is her most likely target for landfall. Watch this one closely.

The steering forecast for #imelda is complex to say the least. A direct hit of a #hurricane in the Carolina’s remains a real possibilty early week. Thats because a weak upper level low stalls and attempts to capture (soon to be Imelda) as it moves out of the #Bahamas. The key here is speed and it’s what separates the different model solutions. The models that are faster with Imelda show a landfall. But the slower members are just slow enough to allow the influence of #Humberto, and by association, the deep trough/ jet stream over New England, to “tug” Imelda out to sea at the 11th hour. Lots of balls in the air and certainly some fascinating science. Florida appears to be shielded from Direct impacts, but the Bahamas will have a direct hit of a tropical storm or low-end hurricane. Be prepared!

Our Storm is entering BOMB GENESIS MODE and is now rapidly strengthening. 💨 Conditions about to head downhill in a HURRY as Winds begin to CRANK close to Hurricane Force this evening , especially near the Carolina coastline. ⏬ Over the next 24 hours, this Storm is expected to drop 35 millibars in pressure, rivaling the rate of intensification seen in some of the MOST EXTREME Hurricanes in recent years. 🌀 At peak intensity, pressure could fall as low as 967 mb, territory normally reserved for a Category 3 Hurricane. 🌬️ That kind of pressure drop will drive WIND GUSTS up to 70 mph on land, particularly along the Carolina coast. This is near HURRICANE FORCE. 🌊Over the open water of the Atlantic, Winds could get as high as 100mph during the height of the Storm. Just insane. ❄️ The combination of HOWLING WIND and HEAVY SNOW will produce BLIZZARD CONDITIONS for many. ⁉️We should have widespread Blizzard Warnings across eastern North Carolina. Not sure why the NWS is holding back. But that doesn't matter. ❤️The HEART OF THE STORM is still ahead of us. 🔏LOCK IN. Hang on, my brotheren. Fujiwhara?? When two hurricanes interact, they can sometimes pivot around one another. Next week there will likely be 2 tropical cyclones (perhaps 2 hurricanes) offshore. If they are strong enough, and are close enough, a #Fujiwhara may happen. Here’s how it works. Between the 2 storms is a pivot point (sort of like a fulcrum on a seesaw), it happens to be near where the sinking/ driest air is. If conditions are right we may see them pivot, or if one’s stronger (Bermuda hurricane) its force will sling shot the weaker one around it. Still not clear to what degree the Fujiwhara effect will be in effect, but it ought to be interesting! BTW Sakuhei Fujiwhara was the Japanese meteorologist who first observed the phenomenon. #hurricane WFLA NEWS #Humberto #Imelda
