Real-time lens tracing experiment in three.js (WIP). This one's a 1973 Nikon wide-angle, US 3,731,989 - ten spherical surfaces. Rays trace from the sensor through all five lens elements, then hit a 360° photo with a depth map. Every lens parameter is a slider. #threejs

wowww great stuff

Brilliant work! Can't wait to try it out.

Beautiful

incredibleee

Amazing!

this is seriously cool

amazing wish to learn sources if its available

Why would you write the patent number and not the focal length and f stop range?

oss? would love to look at the code 👀

Is your original scene just color + depth, and then you do this in postprocessing? Please let me know how you did it, I tried a lot lately for cheap DoF, but nothing worked as good as expensive DoF.

looks absolutely insane btw

How did you implement pupil sampling? Looks really awesome

solved cpu-side to get the sensorZ and some disc params that are fed to the shader - so it knows where to shoot the rays and where to place the sensor plane.. recomputes on every param change

controlling lens parameters must make for some wild visuals

This is really cool! Was playing with similar Ideas back when I was at unity working on a “perception pipeline” for generation of synthetic data and physical lens modeling was a big piece missing in the engines.
