Most voice models are great at cloning voices, but they still manage to erase the person. I have an accent. Voice models don't know how to preserve it. Whenever I clone my voice, models get the words right, but mess up the rhythm badly. They flatten my vowels, and everything drifts toward a generic American accent. I'm attaching one example from Mirage. This is the first model I have heard of that can reproduce access as-is. • My accent stays intact, even when speaking English and Spanish • My pacing and cadence feel intentional, not averaged • The expressivity of my voice comes through Best part: Mirage only needs a short sample of your voice to clone it. I think this solves the hard part of voice cloning: intelligibility is easy, but identity is what makes a huge difference. Yesterday, I stumbled upon one of the most engrossing threads I’ve seen in a while, one from Supercomposite, a musician and now, instantly infamous AI art generator who appeared to have conjured a demon from the digital realm. A demon named Loab. The viral thread currently making the rounds on Twitter, and no doubt headed to Instagram and TikTok soon, is Supercomposite describing how they were messing around with negative prompt weights in AI art generators, though I’m not precisely sure which program was being used in this instance. The saga of Loab started with an image created with the prompt “Brando::-1” where Supercomposite was attempting to make something that was the opposite of Marlon Brando. A negative prompt is where the AI will try to make something as far away from the prompt as possible. That created a weird looking little logo, and the experiment became would the opposite of that production be…Marlon Brando, in turn. So the prompt “DIGITA PNTICS skyline logo::-1” was used. The rest of the thread goes into how Loab, which Supercomposite has named this woman with red cheeks and decaying eyes, appeared in the negative prompt “vacuum,” and when she was used to create further images, the AI found the need to produce increasingly violent and disturbing images featuring Loab.

This is the first time PUK president Bafel Talabani has been publicly seen speaking Arabic in a video aimed at his party’s campaign in Nineveh. Although the message is clearly scripted, his accent and the way he reads strongly suggest he does not speak the language even at an intermediate level, despite reports that he has been trying to learn Arabic for a while now. It is puzzling that, despite years of interaction with Iraqi politicians, neither the Talabani brothers nor the younger Barzanis speak Arabic. Interestingly nowadays many younger Kurds, especially in Erbil, speak at least basic Arabic due to increased interaction with Iraqi Arabs. The Barzani cousins and the Talabanis are said to have hired tutors, yet their Arabic remains weak.

Not only is it a great way to take “notes”, it is a great way to get text to train your AI mode on your ideas, questions or statements. The built-in speech-to-text I use hourly. In fact this posting was made this way last night while I was driving. I also have been carrying a full off-Internet local voice memo device for decades for all of my audio interactions (WITH PERMISSION), not to use as evidence, but to build my high context AI, I call The Intelligence Amplifier. The Recorder app is used by me as a way to make quick snippets of my intentional audio. It is a “secret” to many, but I can say it is one. Very powerful free AI tool. I trained a small AI model on small engine repair by having a 71 year mechanic still working just explain in words everything he is doing over the course of 6 months, just his guiding voice. I hope to one source this. I also use this to send long prompts to Mr. Grok CEO ideas I have in our board of directors meetings. Give it a try. And he's identifying the single most important milestone to watch for in all of AI. The question is can AI automate AI research itself? Here's why that question matters so much. Right now, a few thousand human researchers at the frontier labs are driving all the progress. They design experiments, write papers, propose architectural improvements, build the next generation of models and it's an incredibly small workforce doing incredibly high-leverage work. If an AI system can do that job even partially, the feedback loop changes completely. The AI makes algorithmic improvements, which produces more powerful AI, which makes better improvements, faster. You go from linear progress to compounding returns and a decade of research could compress into a year. Aschenbrenner says there's a "pretty reasonable chance" this happens within five years. He's not alone, Anthropic says they're on track to fully automate AI R&D as soon as early 2027. OpenAI has publicly targeted a fully autonomous AI researcher by March 2028 and Sam Altman has said a research intern level AI will exist before the end of this year. If he's right, the next few years won't look like the last few years but they'll look like nothing we've seen before. The future is bright!

Gemini for Android is here! This new app makes it easier to access Google's chatbot, powered by the Gemini Pro LLM, right from your Android device. You can ask Gemini a question by tapping the launcher icon or long-pressing the power button. Once invoked, the Gemini overlay lets you enter a text or text+image prompt.
