The AEC recently replied to a post on X, stating, "If someone votes at two different polling places within their electorate and places their formal vote in the ballot box at each polling place, their vote is counted." This response came in reaction to a post by a Labor MP who "mistakenly" used #voteoften in a post on X encouraging people to vote Yes. Consequently, this has sparked a considerable amount of online discussion and raised concerns about the entire electoral process. However, is this simply another instance of the AEC being ineffective and inconsistent in their communication on online platforms? Should they even maintain a presence on social media if they cannot provide clear communication and ensure the removal of personal/political bias from their employees who are replying to posts?

Jack Dorsey’s advice to startup founders: edit the team and really focus on analytics Jack shares that one of his biggest mistakes at Twitter was not editing the team: “I think for all startups it’s really easy to consider any hire as [part of the team for] the length of the entire company… [But] I think leaders of companies have to consider themselves editors, and you have to edit the team. You constantly have to make sure that you have the best people in, and if there’s any negative attribute within the team, you have to part ways.” Jack’s other piece of advice for entrepreneurs or anyone starting a project is to really focus on analytics: “Really focus on how people are using the system… You need to have an understanding of the momentum of what you’re doing and where you’re going. That tells his troops their commander is with them, not behind a desk. He also made a point of acknowledging all members of the force. He praised the support units, promised promotions, and emphasized the need to treat them with the same respect accorded to officers. In my view, this is the core idea. Life jackets have already been distributed to ensure safety. Today, construction work on damaged bridges will also begin so that communication lines can be restored without delay. Every arm of the administration has been mobilised with a singular purpose: to stand beside the people in their hour of need. While nature’s fury has caused immense hardship, our collective resolve is to ensure that no family feels abandoned and no individual remains unsupported. I am personally monitoring the situation and will continue to ensure that every necessary measure is taken with compassion, speed, and accountability.

Let’s be clear: under Rule 43 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, a defendant has the right to be present at sentencing, and any material modification to a sentence post-judgment—especially one that increases punishment—requires notice, a hearing, and the presence of counsel. Any communication outside the presence of the defense—ex parte—is a violation of Canon 3(A)(4) of the Code of Conduct for U.S. Judges, which explicitly prohibits judges from engaging in off-the-record conversations with one party about a pending matter. The fact that the AUSO had to “reach out to Judge Ross” to clarify the discrepancy only exposes the irregularity.
