Heatwaves can kill directly, and they also fuel wildfires, worsen air pollution, dry out land and disrupt rainfall patterns. This deepens drought in some places and makes floods more dangerous elsewhere. Governments must act now to protect people from the dire and worsening effects of the climate crisis. My thoughts & analysis on Mark Carney's speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos; "Canada has what the world wants. We are an energy superpower. We have the most educated population in the world." * It was an excellent, strong, and statesman like speech that Caandians in general should be happy and even proud of. * It was an important speech to deliver ahead of Donald Trump's speech tomorrow. This is also an attempt to create contrast in leadership and stability. The problem isn't the speech is what happens outside of it - the reality. * You can't say Canada is open for business and not deliver. * You can't tell the world we have what you want and take 20 years to navigate our own red tape. * You can't tell the world we have the best educated people in the world while having a braindrain because they have nothing to work on. The words sound nice but time and time again the government fails to deliver on them. For Canada, to become the core power player we so desperately want to be we need to be dependable and stable. We can't be infiltrated and work with foreign government that openly want to destroy the West. We can't tell our allies there is no business case when they need us. We have to be confident in the integrity and sovereignty of our nation and not surrender it to the ideologies and foreigners who come by. We need to fix and remove everything that gets in the way of what we are trying to offer to the world. Even though we are obviously upset with Donald Trump conduct we also need to remember that Canada's closest ally and our biggest economic driver will always be the US and there is nothing wrong with it (and yes we need to grow outside of it). With such, we need to have the sensibility not to run to the worst regimes around the world and surrender ourselves and this continent to them. If we want to lead, sometimes we need to lead in our relationships including with the US.

Throughout American history, we have faced mortal crises of our democracy. From the 1770s when we broke from Great Britain, the 1860s in the battle to end slavery, the 1930s and 40s with the collapse of our economic system and the war against fascism. At every one of these moments, the Americans that stepped up fundamentally understood that the world they needed to build could not be the world they had come from. That to protect the rights of their children, they needed to give them new rights, new freedoms. We are in one of those moments of crisis. Nobody wants to live in interesting times, but we do. Nobody wants to be asked to do the hard work, but we will be asked. And we must rise to the occasion. But as we do, we must understand this is not just about going back to what we had. This is about building something new.

Richard Tice clashed with a Sky News presenter over his climate comments and she wouldn’t let it go. Credit to him, he stood firm and made some solid points, especially on water shortages. She put it to him: record temperatures, large parts of the country in drought, water shortages, and the government claiming 2,877 people have died from the heat. Tice’s reply: “Computer modelling that’s been proven to be false.” He went on: “As an island nation, the reality is ten times more people die of extreme cold than extreme heat. As an island nation that’s failed to build a reservoir for 30 years, maybe we should focus on building reservoirs and using desalination plants.” “The idea that we should be short of water is a disgrace of incompetence, mismanagement and negligence by our water companies and by our government that hasn’t invested in infrastructure. Reform will change that.” He’s right. The fact we’re short of water as an island nation surrounded by the stuff is a national scandal. That’s not climate change, that’s just blatant incompetence and negligence. As for the death figures, we know what modelling is like after Covid. Totally unreliable. Essentially guesswork. With climate change it’s always the same script: “This is it. This is the serious one. It’s here to stay.” Then it doesn’t quite materialise, so they just move the goalposts and carry on. We had a couple of heatwaves. Big deal. Blaming everything on climate change is the easy way out. It lets government and the water companies off the hook. Stop it.

Billions poured into subsidies and schemes that just make our energy bills soar. Every target, every scheme, every subsidy comes out of our pocket. We once powered the world. Now we can’t even power ourselves. We have also de-industrialised our country in the name of Net Zero We used to be the workshop of the world, a nation that built and manufactured with pride. Now we import the same goods, made with the worst emissions, just somewhere else, It’s depressing to watch us offshore our jobs, our growth and our pride. And then be forced to fund our own self- destruction! 👇

But we don't dream of peace at any cost, because then these three years will be in vain. We are fighting here not only for our land. We are fighting not only for our families. We are fighting not only for our state. The most important thing for us is values. Values pushed us to fight the enemy. The values of freedom, the desire to live in our own country, the values of being human beings, not slaves.
