I think that a lot of gamers who haven't played Red Dead Redemption 2 before going into GTA 6 will be mind-blown by how much you can mess with NPCs and have branching conversations with them by using the Greet/Antagonize feature. Rockstar Games has obviously worked on this game mechanic even, making it even better and more realistic so I'm pretty sure that even gamers which have played Red Dead Redemption 2 before will still be fascinated, I for one can't wait to talk to random NPCs like this.

I'm always blown away by the fact that Rockstar Games casually made some of the best and most realistic water physics in 2008. GTA IV is the prime example of Rockstar Games focusing heavily on bringing realistic physics in a video-game. Everything from how a car handles, NPC ragdoll and water simulation in Grand Theft Auto IV was way ahead of its time and it even beats most of AAA games that we've seen these past few years when it comes to those game mechanics. Imagine how much ahead GTA 6 is going to be now that Rockstar Games has much more processing power to work with on current gen consoles

You can't compare Cyberpunk 2077 launch to GTA 6 and here's exactly why Cyberpunk 2077 was the CDPR's first installment to feature a futuristic city with tons of NPCs and fast moving cars, something which was never done before on Witcher games. Something super interesting I've spotted while analyzing the GTA 6 extended look was during this section where Lucia drives a car in the highway, you can see a Tow/Wrecker Truck with NPCs standing by that are blocking the road. It looks like you'll occur tons of these random events even when you're driving a vehicle, not limited to when you're just walking. Red Dead Redemption 2 was notorious for having extremely realistic fire physics and I can't wait to see how Rockstar will work upon that. Based on this screenshot alone you can see how much better it looks and how the smoke effects are much more realistic. Setting something on fire could last much longer and the fire could also grow much larger depending on weather conditions.

Here I'm running GTA 5 enhanced for PC at ultra settings to show you how good and clean the reflections look if you have high-end and recent hardware that have AI upscaling to make this possible. That being said, The PS5 Pro console is much more powerful compared to the base PS5 (the footage which GTA 6 was captured) offering higher resolution, 45% faster rendering, 2X-3X better Ray Tracing performance and PSSR upscaling. With the PS5 Pro, it will have significantly better looking and sharper reflections somewhat close to what GTA 5 Enhanced reflections look like on a gaming PC at high settings. However, the ultimate experience will still be on PC when GTA 6 launches, allowing for the highest quality Ray Tracing or even Path Tracing if Rockstar Games decides to implement it.

Part of the reason why I believe the euphoria engine was downgraded was due to the scale of GTA V and that it was designed for PS3/Xbox 360 consoles. Fast Forward a generation later, Red Dead Redemption 2 is much better compared to this, but I still prefer the one in Grand Theft Auto IV. GTA 6 launching this late on a console generation means that Rockstar Games probably had to cut a lot of stuff or tone down the graphics in order to make the game run on base consoles. They're taking full advantage of these consoles' power and I think when the next-gen edition comes out, it will be a massive jump, similar to GTA 5 when it came out for PS4 and PC. That's the biggest jump we've seen a Rockstar game make and I wouldn't be surprised if a similar thing happens when GTA 6 comes out for PC and next-gen consoles. If the PS6 launches in late 2027 as some rumors suggest, the timeline falls in line with GTA 5 next-gen release which took 14 months to release for PC and PS4. Though I don't expect GTA 6 next-gen edition and PC version to launch at the same time due to current market conditions (the PS6 could be delayed to 2028) and I'm really hoping the PC port wont take that long to come out.

Witcher 4 showcase in 2025 was only a tech demo, however if the real gameplay manages to have this level of fluidity as shown in this demo, then I'm confident that by the time Cyberpunk 2 comes out in the future, it will be the closest thing we'll get to a Rockstar Games level of fluidity, realism and gameplay in a modern open world game. I can't put it into words but if you've played Red Dead Redemption 2 and went on to play other AAA games, it always felt like those games were a step behind. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how much different Witcher 4 will look compared to the tech demo when it comes out in the future, it definitely looks promising.

One criticism I always see towards games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI recently is the topic of small details. "Why does a game need so many details, it doesn't make the experience any better and takes longer to develop" While I do agree with the fact that Rockstar Games development schedules in between each release keep getting longer, the fact is that when you aim for such a high level of realism in a video-game, its not about graphics anymore, its about immersion. I'm sure that if you played RDR2, you know that your horse sweating or its balls shrinking in the cold don't add much to the gameplay itself, but it makes the game feel like its real. This is precisely what sets apart Rockstar Games from other game studios, the level of immersion you get in those games is unbeaten. RDR2, a game designed for the PS4 console has a level of fluidity and immersion that I have yet to see in a video-game from any other game studio, each game mechanic seems to work flawlessly that it feels like a living and breathing open world game. Hell, sometimes you feel bad for shooting an NPC which never happened to me in a video-game before. When you're playing it, hours can go by and you don't even. In other open-world games, sometimes you can notice limitations, for example the same NPCs appearing in one object or the same scripted conversations. RDR2 manages to make that gap of a video-game and reality feel thinner, not get rid of it entirely of course. Making such a massive game filled with tons of details means that it can be can be played for multiple years after its release and not feel outdated. Its not all about details of course, when a game takes so long to develop, the stakes get higher each time and Rockstar Games has to make sure that they deliver on the story that is being told too, hence the reason why their games have always been historically good in terms of writing. Now to address the elephant int he room, the main issue is that as the complexity increases for each new release and optimizing all of these systems to work in tandem, the development time increases and we get longer periods of waiting. Is all of this worth it? In my opinion, yes. Its Rockstar Games after all, they have the budget necessary and the talent to achieve this kind of feat. Not only does it raise the bar for what is possible to do in a video-game, but it also is highly rewarding when you play the game for the first time and its unlike anything you've seen these past couple of years. When I finished playing Red Dead Redemption 2 for the first time, every new game that came out felt outdated for me. Just as technology keeps going forward, the same applies here with open world games too. What are your thoughts on this topic?

What Rockstar Games did with GTA V in terms of optimization on a PS3 console is mindblowing! This level of traffic here is so dense that I struggle to make sense on how exactly they've made this possible on a console that has only 512MB total memory system, hell compare that to Windows 11 which averages to 5GB of RAM usage during idle and you can see how little resources Rockstar Games had working with here. If you remember, when Cyberpunk 2077 launched on PS4, Night City was practically a Ghost Town when you drove a car due to how much it would affect the framerate. Even most open-world games today don't add heavy traffic to save on resources, but GTA V is out here squeezing every last drop of my PS3 console just to add this number of vehicles for seemingly no reason all I can say is that Rockstar really knows how to push the limits of what a console can achieve and I can't wait to see what they're going to do with Grand Theft Auto 6.
