I've seen some people ask how the Noxus Portal in Arena is made, so here is how! It is using a stencil mask (very similar to a Photoshop Layer Mask) to hide geometry that is placed in front and behind it to fake a parallax effect. This video shows with and without the stencil enabled. The reflection layers are in the front, while the several flat environment layers are in the back.

Following ☄︎ work, I'm experimenting with some react three fiber with #threejs webGPU. We no longer need an EffectComposer to use post-processing effects in #r3f. Now, everything is done by composing TSL nodes. I created a small component that helps in rendering post-processing effects. All you need to do is import the effects you want and add them to the final composition. I will share the link to the demo and source code on Monday 😍. Another thing I want to highlight is how amazing the Screen Space Reflection effect is. It generates reflections not only on the ground, as we had before in r3f in webgl. It is able to calculate the reflections between the meshes. Look how beautiful the reflection of the lightsaber on Darth Vader's mask is. This is not something that is easy to calculate and this is exactly where WebGPU in threejs shines! Congratulations to everyone on the threejs team. I am increasingly impressed with WebGPU and TSL.

I noticed these side effects early on and when I brought them up to my doctors and therapist, they called them “anxiety” and I was placed on even more drugs to “help,” which was like pouring kerosene onto my brain, already on fire. Now you’re in the system, drugged and any type of drug “side effect” is labeled as your “mental illness.” Akathasia is like a chemical fire in the nervous system where your body feels trapped and your mind can’t find an escape. This isn’t even like normal “drug withdrawal” where you experience waves and windows of relief—it is a 24/7 every second of every day where you get zero relief from it. It’s also one of the leading causes of iatrogenic suicide, where for me, I simply couldn’t take it anymore and was trying to make it stop, It’s not a reflection of a mental illness, it’s a result of a napalm being poured onto your nervous system. And f*ck right off to any pharma reps and doctors who still deny it. Rest in peace Christine.

I think of this Peter Thiel clip often. Thiel discusses how he sold $META at IPO; underestimating just how easy it would be for the company to scale from a $100B market cap to $1T. While this conversation is specifically about big tech, I believe it can apply to any company with strong network effects, various flywheels, etc. That’s not to say every great company will hit $1T, but I do believe it’s likely we underestimate just how much a truly great company can accomplish over the long run. Valuation matters over the long run, so I’m not saying just because a company hits $100B it will magically become easier to scale… but relatively speaking, assuming said market cap is an accurate reflection of the success a company is having, I think Thiel’s take makes a lot of sense. Flywheels are very powerful.. In my view, Palantir is building a flywheel as an operating system, where the more users they adopt, the more improved the platform will become and the more attractive it will be for devs, which in turn attracts more users and so on. With AbCellera, I believe the more data they collect, the better their platform becomes and the more partners they will attract, which results in even more microfluidic experiments, resulting in more data/improved accuracy, attracting more partnered molecules, and so on. Everyone is focused on obtaining as many shares as possible, and I get that… I want to own as many shares as possible for the companies I believe in as well. But I also believe folks probably have way more shares than they realize. The key is being able to hold for the LONG term… decades. Amara’s Law: “We tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run.” I believe 500 shares of $PLTR and 1,000 of $ABCL can be life changing over the long run if the thesis plays out and you’re patient (emphasis on thesis playing out, which is never guaranteed)… Life changing meaning accumulating a disproportionate amount of wealth relative to the average person. Maybe it won’t get you a yacht and a mansion, but could at least make you not have to worry about money ever again with a modest lifestyle… something most people dream of. And this isn’t specific to just these companies; I use them as an example because they’re what I know. And to those who have thousands of shares… enjoy the show.

The cult of beauty is ubiquitous but it has lost its transcendence and become little more than an aspect of consumerism — the aesthetic dimension of capitalism. The sublime and unsettling aspects of beauty have given way to corporeal(?) pleasures, instant gratification and 'likes', resulting in a kind of 'pornography' of beauty. Here I trace a parallel to creation in the Information Age: we have imported to web3 dynamics the slavery of our own competition for attention in the World Wild Web. Artists creating to please. Impact over depth. Instinct over reflection. Wow over hmm. Sequential drops over paced, thoughtful creation. In this live performance art act, dropping simultaneously as my genesis NFT on SuperRare (the video here is a teaser for the full 3’40” piece), I aim to denounce this collective craving by laying bare over my own body the pointlessness of the quest for maximum performance, in a self-plea to make peace with destruction, failure and negativity, with the demons in our mirrors, towards thoughtful understanding of who we are and what our place is. These are aspects that must be embraced if humanity is to escape the stupor that comes as a side effect of the digital age and keep evolving with full consciousness of the directions we're taking. The sublime and unsettling aspects of beauty have given way to corporeal(?) pleasures, instant gratification and 'likes', resulting in a kind of 'pornography' of beauty. Here I trace a parallel to creation in the Information Age: we have imported to web3 dynamics the slavery of our own competition for attention in the World Wild Web. Artists creating to please. Impact over depth. Instinct over reflection. Wow over hmm. Sequential drops over paced, thoughtful creation. In this live performance art act, dropping simultaneously as my genesis NFT on SuperRare (the video here is a teaser for the full 3’40” piece), I aim to denounce this collective craving by laying bare over my own body the pointlessness of the quest for maximum performance, in a self-plea to make peace with destruction, failure and negativity, with the demons in our mirrors, towards thoughtful understanding of who we are and what our place is. These are aspects that must be embraced if humanity is to escape the stupor that comes as a side effect of the digital age and keep evolving with full consciousness of the directions we're taking.
