I am still very surprised there has not been an effort to search the desert areas for #NancyGuthrie. I previously showed an example of using drone still images to map entire areas and then applying specialized detection software. This is another example, using video captured from a drone and detection software programmed to identify humans and human remains. In this case, from a few months ago, I located this individual using that method. The deceased person was wearing clothing that blended into the environment and was largely concealed under brush, yet we were still able to detect the person while covering large areas of land from high altitudes with drones and specialized software. I feel the Sheriff’s Department and/or the family should consider this type of strategy in the areas with the highest probability of detection. #SAR

We live in the solo founder era. That's for sure and building with AI has accelerated. I am building software to use for myself and replace the expensive tools I used to use. And partially thanks to AI we can build faster, but not dramatically faster if you want to build a commercial grade product. Before I was using a live chat and customer support tool that costed around 50-100$ a month. This helped me to interact with the customers of my agency or prospects. But I decided a few months ago to build my own and stop paying for these more expensive solutions. I did and turned into a product for everyone to use. The build was not 1-2 hours of work using AI, but it was a several-month process on and off as I needed it. Finally, it has turned into a commercial grade product. I have built several of these and this is when we will see more and more solutions like these. Let's start bootstrapping before showing MRR figures.

Evan Spiegel on the lesson that killed his first startup and led to Snapchat: "We focused on building the perfect product for way too long before we got feedback. We worked for like eighteen months to build this perfect full-featured product, which was in direct contravention to how I was always taught to build things. Build a prototype, build an MVP, get it in front of people, learn as quickly as possible. But we had spent all this time building this perfect piece of software and we hadn't thought enough about distribution. While we built this great piece of software, our competitor at the time, Naviance, had secured distribution through all the different college counselors. What piece of software are you going to choose to help your kid get into college? The one recommended by the college counselors or the one from two kids at Stanford? I think it's a pretty easy choice. So we saw very early that we had no distribution advantage. Even if we loved our software, people weren't going to use it because we didn't have a scalable way to get it in people's hands. Around that time when we saw the emergence of the App Store on iPhone, it was very clear that was a distribution channel we could really use and benefit from. But we also needed to build things we could build quickly, things we really were going to use together with our friends so we could be the first early customers. Ultimately Peekaboo and Snapchat represented that." This is exactly the asymmetry Peter Thiel describes in Zero to One: superior distribution by itself can create a monopoly, even with no product differentiation. The converse is not true. Thiel puts an even finer point on it: most businesses get zero distribution channels to work. Poor sales rather than bad product is the most common cause of failure. If you can get just one distribution channel to work, you have a great business. Estée Lauder said: it's not enough to have the most wonderful product in the world. You must be able to sell it. Many founders over-index on product perfection and under-invest in distribution. The world is full of great products nobody knows about, and mediocre products with massive distribution that dominate markets. Evan Spiegel lived it. I was not always a mother who knew. In fact, I remember bristling at this part of Sis. Beck's talk. I was a young mother of three small, busy boys, and the last thing I wanted to be told was that my role in the grand plan of happiness was to do dishes and laundry. If I only knew then what I know now. What I know now is how truly important it is for a mother to be home with her children. That the "mundane" tasks of motherhood actually refine a woman. That serving your family only increases your love for them. That there is nothing more beneficial for your children than cultivating and creating a home where they are safe, loved and taught the principles of the gospel. That what the world offers is only a distraction from what's most important. I'd love to say that I'm now perfect at doing the dishes, the laundry and keeping my home. I am not. But I no longer feel like those tasks are a burden. I see them as a meaningful and important contribution to the most important thing in all of time and eternity...my family.

This is where I have to share my raw feelings about Rivian software currently on R1. The software experience they have created is good. It’s their own, with their software stack that they control. With that said, we have to stop making excuses for longstanding bugs. Like Quinn Nelson had posted about long ago, having to do multiple Resets, logins and out to get core functionality to work is not the experience we should be having. I know Rivian and Wassym do not want this. I also know they are working on R2 stuff as well. As a person who has spent real money on 4 Rivian’s with 3 R2 reservation between me and hubby, we are huge fans. Have helped many become Rivian owners as well. But the long outstanding bugs are starting to boil over. It’s dragging the software reliability down. Apple Music has been in Rivian vehicles for just about 2 years now. We are past the stage of it being “new”. Spatial Audio is a key music feature, and for me, and plenty of others, you have to turn that off sometimes just to get music to play. I shouldn’t have to do that. Plus, you can’t change that feature while the vehicle is in drive. So then you have to pull over and fiddle with it just to get it work and sometimes it doesn’t. Rivian assistant can’t do it either. Among other issues, like HVAC preconditioning, unstable cabin temps, GPS locking issues, profile switching not getting right or switching profile after the driver has gotten in, mobile app live activities not functioning properly, and more. The live activities is important, because we don’t have a notification for charging start stop/complete except for charging complete on DCFC, so on a level 2 charger, I don’t know if there is an issue with charging if the live activities don’t appear. Same for HVAC if it’s not showing up I have to keep opening the app to check to see what the temperature is. If you aren’t going to push me a notification that the cabin is at the temp I selected in favor of the live activities, then the live activities has to work. I could go on, but I really love my Rivian. I love the brand, I love what they want to do. And I think R2 is going to change the market for most things, but I want their focus to be on software and stability. Focus on polish, focus on features that many people want, don’t over complicate those things. Example, valet mode should be here by now that locks down speed acceleration and access to certain parts of the vehicle. Basic Pin to drive, not the multi factors drive one that depends on your phone and vehicle having an internet connection. Speedy, clean, stable software is always a win. I know Wassym Bensaid and plenty of others at Rivian can do this. We have seen it before and seen what they can do. The YouTube app is by far the best app they have added. I haven’t had any issues with it. It’s responsive, and works. Everything needs to work like that across the board. Please guy let me help in anyway I can, I just want the best for you and the community and customers. Let’s focus on that. I know some will see this as a complete complaining post but it’s not. It’s a plead to make the experience better for everyone and making the Rivian software the best software it can be.

I think I was particularly impressed by those children they were happy, they were beautiful. The military is obvious it couldn't be better. But those children were amazing, and they represent so much. And I know they represent so much to you. You and I have known each other now for a long time the longest relationship of our two countries that any president and president has had. And that is, to me, an honor. We have had a fantastic relationship. We have gotten along even when there were difficulties. Whenever we had a problem, we worked it out very quickly. And we are going to have a fantastic future together. I have such respect for China and the job you have done. You are a great leader. I say it to everybody. Sometimes people do not like me saying it, but I say it anyway because it is true. I only say the truth. It is an honor to be with you. It is an honor to be your friend, and the relationship between China and the USA is going to be better than ever before.

The presidents of the two countries addressed each other with opening remarks: President of China, Xi Jinping: The whole world is watching our meeting. Currently, a transformation not seen in a century is accelerating across the globe, and the international situation is fluid and turbulent. The world has come to a new crossroads. Can China and the United States overcome the Thucydides Trap and create a new paradigm for major country relations? Can we meet global challenges together and provide more stability for the world? Can we, in the interest of the well-being of our two peoples and the future of humanity, build a brighter future together for our bilateral relations? These are the questions vital to history, to the world, and to the people. They are the questions of our times that you and I, as leaders of major countries, need to answer. I always believe that our two countries have more common interests than differences. Success in one is an opportunity for the other, and a stable bilateral relationship is good for the world. China and the United States both stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. We should be partners, not rivals. We should help each other succeed and prosper together and find the right way for major countries to get along well with each other in the new era. Back in 1978, when I was just 23, I traveled from Istanbul to Kathmandu with my best friend, Gene. It was quite an adventure for a couple of kids just out of college. There was no way of connecting with loved ones. We didn’t know where the end of our trail was. There were no guidebooks. For us, it was a venture into uncharted territory. It was a journey of discovery, to question our Western values and help us better understand the world. Along the way, we made friends in Tehran, got lost in Lahore, got high for the first time in Herat, battled leeches in Pokhara, and much more. We were free and earnest, but the trip helped us build a better empathy for cultures and humility for seeing what a small speck we were in this world. Almost 50 years later, I still pack along that curiosity whenever and wherever I travel. What drove me to write a 60,000-word journal along the way is beyond me…but with that journal as the basis for my new book, “On the Hippie Trail: Istanbul to Kathmandu and the Making of a Travel Writer,” you’re invited to join me on what was far and away, the trip of my life.
