4 DAY SHOOTING RESET: Day 1 This 4 day reset aims to help players slow down and reinforce their shot. It’s really helpful for Great Shooters that love to be detailed, but also if you aren’t a great shooter to help you build your foundation. Day 1 is about finding our stance (load position) and feeling the sequencing of our shot. The Load Position is the foundation of our shot. A players understanding and feel for their stance is HUGE. Drill 1: Load Position Shooting - Find your stance and start in Load Position, take a breath, lift and shoot with normal pace. We look for straight lift and high follow through on this. Drill 2: 1 Foot Drops - this works on finding our base on the drop, and timing in to lift / shot. Drill 3: 1 Foot Drops w/ Dribble- Add in dribble to work on finding base, ball transfer to shooting hand, timing for shooting off the dribble. SCORING: ONLY COUNT CLEAN MAKES (Swish or hit rim once). For each drill, make 10 from 15’ and 10 from 3. Change Distance and Angle for each shot for variability.

One of my favorite parts of rolling in the gi is passing while they still have grips. I’m comfortable standing in front of them because I’m ready to brace and make their sweeps miss. Instead of breaking grips, I try to unclip their frames and deny their feet from getting to my hips and arms. They can’t hang well without both griping and framing. To get ahead, make grips on their pant legs and start playing a mini game I call up, down, left, right. Each hand works independently, probing for a direction to push or pull their leg that makes their frames less useful. You still have to be ready to overfit and underfit submission attacks, especially when your stance gets staggered. Getting staggered is okay, and sometimes unavoidable. Don’t panic. Accept where you are and be ready for the next part of the exchange. If they upgrade their grip, like getting to a lasso, you have to unwind it or drive pressure into it so the grip becomes uncomfortable. Make it cost more energy than it’s worth. When you move this way, natural passing routes open up without having to map everything out ahead of time. Try passing without breaking grips. Most nights I would sit in front of my MacBook with ten tabs open and a blank cursor mocking me. The perfect line for a LinkedIn post or X thread would be loud in my head, but by the time I tried to type it out, the rhythm was gone and I would just close the tab. It felt like I was leaving money and momentum on the table every single day. If you have ever rewritten the same sentence over and over, or stared at your laptop knowing exactly what you want to say but not how to start, you know that frustration. Creators, founders, and job seekers all live in LinkedIn DMs, WhatsApp chats, and X replies, but our brains move in voice, not in perfect text. We just need a way to grab the thought before perfectionism and typing slow it down. So I started using Typeless. There’s a fisherman in Costa Rica named Chito who, back in 1989, found a 70 kg crocodile bleeding on a riverbank, shot through the left eye by a cattle farmer who’d been losing cows. The animal was barely alive. Chito dragged him into his boat and took him home. For the first months he hid the crocodile in a secret pond deep in the forest, under a thick canopy of trees, because he didn’t trust the authorities to leave them alone. He fed him by hand. He slept next to him at night so the animal wouldn’t feel alone. He named him Pocho, which means “strong” in the local dialect. When Pocho was finally healthy, Chito drove him in a truck to a river far from the house and released him properly. The crocodile climbed straight out of the water and refused to go back in. He just waited. So Chito took him home again. The trust between them took years. “At first it was slow, slow,” Chito has said. “After a decade I started to work with him.” His first wife left him over the crocodile. Chito’s response: “Another wife I could get. Pocho was one in a million.” He later remarried, and his second wife came to love the animal too once she saw Chito putting his hands in its mouth. Every Sunday for over ten years, the two of them performed together in a small pool for whoever showed up. Pocho would charge at Chito with his jaws wide open, then close them at the last second so Chito could kiss his snout. They did this for years without incident. Pocho passed peacefully in the water outside the house in October 2011. By then he was around 5 metres long and probably about 60 years old. The whole town came to the funeral. Chito sang a calypso song he’d written for him, holding the crocodile’s hand. American crocodiles are one of the most aggressive species in the Americas, with the second strongest bite force of any animal alive. Researchers have only recently started taking crocodile intelligence seriously, finding that they play, use sticks to lure birds during nesting season, and form social bonds with each other.
