Every year, on the first Sunday of August, we congratulate our warriors of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on their professional holiday and thank them for their protection. We thank our pilots, air defense personnel, mobile fire groups, anti-aircraft gunners, radio engineering units, engineers, and everyone who does their part to make Ukraine stronger. Thousands of combat sorties, thousands of targets intercepted, and thanks to that, thousands of lives protected. Over the years of the war, our Air Force has grown significantly stronger. We have received modern combat aircraft and effective air defense systems. There are still not enough of these systems to protect our entire sky from Russian missiles, but today Ukraine's air shield is already one of the strongest in Europe. And that is thanks to the professionalism and experience of our warriors, who have proven it time and again by intercepting even the most challenging targets despite shortages of one type of equipment or another. I thank every man and woman who defends our skies and does everything every day to keep Ukrainians safe. And we will always honor the memory of all those who gave their lives defending Ukraine. Eternal memory to the heroes. Glory to our warriors! Glory to Ukraine!

I presented almost 700 of our warriors with state awards these days. Our Armed Forces, including Air Forces, Navy, Intelligence, combat medics, and others. They have all demonstrated their worth on the frontlines, in combat brigades, and in protecting all of Ukraine and all of our people. These are the people, brave Ukrainians, who safeguard us all on December 31st, January 1st, and every holiday and workday. They are our people's strength and pride. And I am especially grateful to those who are now engaged in combat, at combat posts, or performing combat tasks.

Today, I presented state awards to our warriors from the Security and Defense Forces and handed the decorations to the families of fallen Heroes who were honored posthumously. I thank everyone who cares for Ukraine, who defends Ukraine, and who does everything they can to ensure that Ukraine exists. This morning, following Russia’s massive attack, I received a report from the commander – the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Kryvonozhko. About what the Russians were targeting and what our air defenders were able to do in response. Among the things that help us significantly make up for the shortage of air defense missiles are the expertise of our military and the courage of Ukrainian men. Our warriors are doing truly heroic things. Many people around the world would be simply unable to do that. Ballistic missiles remain a severe and painful threat, and the only way we can protect against them is with the support of our partners. And we are working with them to make sure Ukraine gets the capabilities it needs. And one of the most convincing arguments is precisely the expertise of our warriors, the ability of Ukrainians to shoot down even the most complex and dangerous Russian missiles. And of course, our biggest argument overall for all international cooperation, for all our international work, is the front. It is our positions, our defense, our combat brigades, and other Ukrainian units that repel Russian assaults and defend Ukraine. Everything depends on how the front holds, on how Ukrainian society supports the front, and on how society feels gratitude toward the front. Thank you to all our warriors. Glory to Ukraine!

Today, our long-range sanctions against Russia for this war once again reached the Dubna space communications center in the Moscow region. This is a special satellite communications facility used, in particular, for reconnaissance and for coordinating the activity of Russia’s occupation contingent in Ukraine. The distance from our state border to this facility is more than 500 kilometers. Recently, our Defense Forces of Ukraine already reached four such Russian centers, not only in the Moscow region but also in the Vladimir region. Step by step, we are implementing our plan of long-range sanctions and making it as difficult as possible for the aggressor state to carry out its invasion operations against Ukraine and the occupation of our territories. Today, our long-range sanctions reached the Saratov region, Tatarstan, and Bashkortostan – roughly 800, 1,400, and 1,500 kilometers from the front line. They also reached the Voronezh region – about 300 kilometers from our border. I thank the warriors of the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and our intelligence agencies for their accuracy. Even fewer could really stand against such Russian strikes, assaults, and meanness, from which Ukraine is actually defending itself every day and every night. We are deterring a full-scale Russian invasion. We have been holding back Russian murderers for almost four years of full-scale war – after years of hybrid war – we are keeping them behind the front line. Ukraine exists, and the fate of Ukraine really matters, and the world must reckon with this. Today, we have a new support package for Ukraine, and the most important element of it is the Swedish Gripen fighter jets, which will strengthen our air force. Overall, this year, next year, and our future cooperation are all about building Ukraine’s fleet of Swedish Gripens. This will help us guarantee the security of Ukraine and Ukrainians. Today, the Ulf Kristersson and I also discussed the details of our cooperation across all other areas. I briefed him on the situation in Ukraine – on the battlefield and in our defense against Russian strikes. We need our own European antiballistic capabilities in sufficient quantity and with sufficient strength. We will work on this, including within the NB8 format – one of our most effective formats, bringing together Ukraine, the Nordic countries, and the Baltic states. I am also grateful to Sweden for all the sanctions steps – everything that limits Russia’s capacity for aggression.

Beginning with the liberation of Zmiinyi Island and continuing through our operations against the Russian fleet, ports, and the occupying forces in our Crimea, we keep proving that this region – the Black Sea region and the Sea of Azov region – will never be a place of peace and quiet for Russia. On the eve of Ukrainian Navy Day, I honored our warriors defending Ukraine as part of our Naval Forces. I presented the battle flag and the ribbons “For Courage and Bravery” to Navy military units. I thank everyone for their service. And today, on the occasion of this year's Ukrainian Navy Day – and as a sign of respect and gratitude to our Naval Forces – I have made a decision for the future of Ukraine's Naval Forces and for the future of our Odesa. The decision to establish our own strong new Naval Academy in Odesa. I know this is something our Naval Forces need. We have the capacity to make it happen, and, most importantly, our cadets and our young people have the desire to serve Ukraine and defend Ukraine. We will definitely accomplish all our tasks.

Today is the Day of the Center of Special Operations “Alpha” of the SSU: professional, brave, and motivated warriors who carry out complex and important missions every day for Ukraine’s security. Over the years of the full-scale war, Alpha fighters have destroyed thousands of pieces of enemy equipment and inflicted enormous losses on the occupiers. These warriors are behind up to 20% of all enemy infantry losses. This is a high level of effectiveness that speaks for itself. Thanks to Alpha’s long-range operations, the enemy is feeling the consequences of its own aggression far from the front lines, deep in Russia’s rear. And there are even more successful operations ahead. Thank you to every Alpha warrior for your service and for the results you deliver for the country. Another group of our warriors is back home. Today, Ukrainian servicemen returned from Russian captivity — including members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, particularly the Air Assault Forces, Naval Forces, and Territorial Defense Forces. Also released were service members of the State Border Guard Service, the National Guard, and the State Special Transport Service. Many of them spent nearly two years in captivity. Many have serious injuries and health issues. Most are officers. We know each and every one. We are bringing everyone back. And we continue working to return all. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible every day — and especially to our defenders who stood strong in captivity. Glory to Ukraine!

Targets were also struck in the Rostov region and in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This is a fully justified response to Russian attacks on our cities and communities, and another important result of our warriors’ work against facilities that sustain Russia’s war machine. I thank our Defense and Security Forces of Ukraine for their coordinated efforts – the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Special Operations Forces, Defense Intelligence, and our missile brigade for their precision. We will be focusing on Mpumalanga and KZN for this round. Today is a day of warriors who carry out extremely difficult and dangerous work every day. They support our units on the frontline, evacuate the wounded, and strike the enemy. Today, army aviation is also carrying out another mission of extraordinary importance. Modernized Ukrainian helicopters have become an effective part of protecting our skies from Russian drones. Army aviation warriors have now shot down thousands of enemy targets. And this is Ukraine’s unique experience. I thank every army aviation warrior for their service, for every sortie and every mission accomplished, for protecting our people. We will always remember and be grateful to all army aviation warriors who defended Ukraine and gave the most precious thing in this struggle: their lives. Eternal honor to the heroes. Happy Day of the Army Aviation of the Ground Forces of Ukraine!

I presented state awards on the occasion of Ukraine’s Constitution Day to Ukrainian men and women who work for our state. First and foremost, to our military: I personally presented the Orders of the Golden Star to the Heroes of Ukraine, and also handed awards to the families of the fallen who, tragically, were awarded this title posthumously. I also presented awards to Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko; the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphanius; our multi-time champion Liudmyla Luzan; war correspondent Andriy Tsaplienko; and the first responders and a police officer who saved the Dormition Cathedral after the Russian strike. I thank everyone who, through their work, words, faith, and actions, supports Ukraine and our people. Everyone who, in their place, helps build a free and strong state. A state that is fighting today for its freedom and independence. And it will certainly preserve them.

Denmark, Finland, and Estonia are countries whose people and governments have supported Ukraine since the very first days of the full-scale war. Today, together we presented state awards to the First Ladies of Finland and Estonia and to the First Gentleman of Denmark – true friends who stand alongside our people. They came to Ukraine for the Fifth Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen. For us, this is a symbol of genuine partnership and great trust.
