Consider it from his perspective. These two people are the closest thing he has to friends and are the only people who could understand why he faked his death, and they deserve an explanation for why he did it.

That's not it at all. He was committed to his new identity which didn't involve his powers.

Everyone keeps saying he forgot or couldn't use his powers to egt out of this. I like to believe he decided to own up to what he did to the two of them, the ones he knows best, in the hopes they would understand why.

I like to think he had just gotten incredibly complicit and lazy over not having to use his powers for a period of time (now that I think about it how long was megamind in charge before he created titan?) so the thought of using super speed didn’t cross his mind

Honestly. He’s not thinking about his powers, he’s trying to live normally, yeah he could have absolutely used his powers, but in that moment he was caught off guard, he knows Roxanne and MM and they aren’t a real threat, and to him he’s trying to be Music Man not Metro Man.

I believe this is also the first time we see him walk. Previously, he was always flying. Now that he's given up superhero life and is hiding away, he just walks around like a normal guy. He's been flying around since he was a baby.

Maybe he didn't want to use his powers anymore, live like a human.

What this implies is that his super speed powers are not easy to use and are not automatic. There are lots of explanations for it.
