Remember when games prioritized amazing physics over sheer graphics quality? I miss those days. Besides Rockstar's RDR2 and GTA, it feels like physics have really become an afterthought. Am I the only one who feels this way?

maybe in open world games but last of us 2 physics are probably some of the best I have seen, the paper from the window even has a separate animation for example

Most of these are just animations though, sure they emulate actual “physics” but they aren’t really dynamic like GTA’s

a lot are but look at some slo mo shoots, the detail is insane, like it's real life physics

RDR2 had some REALLY cool reactive NPCs, I feel like RDR2 definitely did a better job at selling the "realism" of someone getting shot mid-gunfight but especially the melee. I love GTA 4's physics but man were they a little bit janky.

RDR2 was perfect at it

Yeah, exactly! I really loved the way RDR2 did it most, even down to the gore which was insanely detailed.

New Games just focus more on presentation and eye-candy rather than being good in physics which is equally important imo

Great physics instantly boost immersion of any game for me, especially when applied with common sense. Not only it elevates your interaction with the world but can lead to fun and creative outcomes for added hilarity. 😁

Exactly, it really does add massive replay value

Can’t wait to see GTA 6’s physics, the ragdolls looked amazing in the leaks

Grand Theft Auto V physics kinda sucks compared to IV, RDR2 had it perfect between graphics and physics. Besides these, yes - games today seem to not care about physics, like BF 2042, shooting water water non-existent

Bethesda?

They’re up there

GTA 4 had the best game physics

Why do I feel that the Max Payne remakes will have amazing physics

Oh it definitely will, have you seen Control's physics? It'll run on the same engine as that game!

Just looked into their engine, like Rockstar, they have used and upgraded the same engine for their entire run. "Northlight". Excited to see.

I care more about “feel” more than physics, how a character feels to move, sprint, attack and whether it’s slow and sluggish (like GTA 5) or whether it’s smooth and responsive (like the last of us 2) I don’t mind an animation system over physics based, as long as it feels good

Tears of the Kingdom did

Rdr2 physics being one of the best of all Rockstar's license bro

You are 100% correct! Hilarious physics adds so much more to a game!

Max payne had great psychics

The Last of Us 2 had amazing physics

I blame alot of new age gamers that want Story to be first then gameplay. Gameplay in a video game should aways come first! Story and Graphics mean nothing if the gameplay sucks.

I feel like good physic is what make GTA game so timeless, you can just hop on, drive around, fight a bit and always have fun

Death Stranding is essentially a game about physics 😅

Yeah. I played so many hours of GTA because of the gameplay and the fun I had with creating chaos and playing missions. I didn't put so many hours in because of jaw-dropping graphics, though GTA 4, 5 and RDR 2 are also visually stunning

Words cannot express how much I miss innovative simulation tech in non-sports games, I was actually impressed when I started playing the FIFA series for the first time last year and saw just how much was going on all at once - so much physics. We need GTA VI to change that stat.

I'll never understand this discussion. Do y'all REALLY think GTA 4 have better physics? Euphoria is a ready-made out of box software and looks nothing like how people react in real life. It's almost cartoonish. GTA 5 uses a proprietary solution by Rockstar much more realistic

@L2kgames You're bang on the money with that, GTA 4 was great I loved that they reacted to whever they was shot, I always thought Wrestling games would go hard on physics to give an organic reaction to moves but they've gone the opposite way with set and forced reactions

nothing has topped euphoria. i don't know why they would strip it back in V and RDR2, but they feel much more stiff and arcadey when compared to GTA IV. i get the criticism of IV feeling a bit floaty and unrealistic, but it makes your actions and movements feel so alive

Welp GTA V physics are awful too, they made a downgrade in some aspects to improve graphics. The game with better physical interactions between objects and player is not even RDR2, is Zelda Breath of the wild/Tears, and both are modern games.

yeah. you are the only one. Both physics and graphics hare come a long way baby. Witcher 3 Cyberpunk No Mans Sky Valheim You COULD complain about the graphics for all of them (cyberpunk maybe not, it looks amazing), but gameplay is top notch.

Killzone 2 is another great example of impressive physics. Shooting enemies was satisfying.

Helldivers 2 says hello

Gta 5 and red dead 2 are downgrades compared to gta 4 and red dead redemption 1

You mean Botw and TOTK physics is not a main part in RDR2 at all. There are very goo details but not so much in terms of gameplay

Devs prioritize different things. Look at mission design/quest design. Rockstar hasn move forward in that aspect for over 20 years more or less. Its outdated as yesterday's bitten apple.

I remember… was just like 1 year ago!

GTA 4 has the best and most fun physics to play around with. Change my mind.
