The C.B. craze. 7 year olds talking to truckers. GENX kids, we were basically raised by wolves.

I’m old enough to remember the song and the movie

I actually had this trash can when I was in 2nd grade.

When that song came out I had a base station with a linear and could talk for miles. Dad put in a regular CB, then he said what all kind of sht have you added to this radio. You didn’t call your friends, you just yelled at them on the CB.

I'm embarrassed that I remember this 😆

Unless you were there I cannot emphasize how popular CB radios and truckers were in 1976. Breaker, breaker this is the Ramblin' Ram( my call sign as a 12 year old)

Who remembers that the guy (Chip Davis) that wrote all the songs McCall sang was the same guy that formed Mannheim Steamroller and it's only steady member?

Watch convoy whenever I can it’s as iconic to me as Smokey and the bandit 🤘

Yes! And Wolf Creek Pass. Would give anything to ride along in the car with my dad and listen to this again!

I do, but the most shocking part is that song went to #1 on the Billboard charts 😅

Well, we shot the line We went for broke With a thousand screamin’ trucks And eleven long haired friends of Jesus in a chartreuse microbus.

I have the 45! Sorry if people don't know what that means.

Calling someone a Turkey still makes me laugh.

I recognize Grandpa and the big gal. Dat dere is Hee Haw

This song made everyone want a CB Radio so they could come up with a clever handle and use all the jargon like "Copy, this is FrogMaster heading north on 95 looking for anyone heading south with a peek over the cheek".

I was 7 years old when that came out. I sent away for a K-TEL record with that song on it and other country hits. I used my lawn mowing job money. I remember it took so long to arrive that I nearly forgot about it.

Rapping before rapping was cool.

The CB Radio craze swept the nation, and this was our anthem song! When the Internet came along, we thought, “Sounds like it will be just like the CB Radio!” And there’s Gailard Sartain and Lulu in the Hee Haw diner.

Oh yeah I remember that song very well. Also the great movie Convoy with Kris Kristofferson.

There was a period in the 70s where "trucking" and CB radios were a trendy thing.

I would ride with my grandparents to Southern Missouri every summer in the late 70’s and early 80’s and Grandpa would have the CB radio blaring. I can hear my grandma now. HAROLD TURN THAT RACKET OFF ITS HURTING MY EARS!!! What I wouldn’t give to have those days back again.

Absolutely remember this well. We met C.W. McCall (Bill Fries) in Ouray, CO shortly after this Hee Haw episode aired. Probably would not have recognized him had it not been for this.

“Empty Arms Hotel!” 🤣

One of the great many anti-55 mph Federal speed limit songs.

Car 67 - Driver 67 (UK # 7 - February 1979)

My teenage handle was "Roadkill". 😂

Every now and then on the freeway I end up between a couple big rigs, all these years later I can't help it, I say "We've got ourselves a convoy"

When he wrote this song it was on a bet that anyone could write a country song. This classically trained musician proved it!

“And eleven long haired Friends of Jesus In a Chartreuse microbus”

I can guarantee this never happened. But if it ever did there was a Cummins long stroke involved.

His handle was Rubber Duck. My grandpa was Dead Duck. I was pretty sure they were related. 😆

That and Teddy Bear by Red Sovine were two of my dads favorites. We’d listen to them on 8 track.

People were so angry over the 55 mph speed limit that this went straight to number one.
