BREAKING: U.S. Confirms "We Have Directed Energy Weapons – And We're Scaling Them Up" United States has indeed publicly acknowledged possession and ongoing development of directed-energy (DE) weapons, primarily high-energy lasers (HEL) and high-power microwave systems. These are not secret programs; the Department of Defense (DoD), the military services (especially the Navy and Army), and Congress have openly discussed them for years through budgets, roadmaps, testimonies, and public reports. Possession and operational deployment — The U.S. military has fielded limited operational or prototype DE systems since the mid-2010s. Examples include: —The Navy's HELIOS (High Energy Laser with Integrated Optical-dazzler and Surveillance), a 60 kW-class system installed on Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, operational since around 2019–2021 for countering drones, small boats, and other threats. —The Army's DE M-SHORAD (Directed Energy Maneuver-Short Range Air Defense), a 50 kW laser on Stryker vehicles, with prototypes deployed overseas (OCONUS) as early as 2024 for counter-unmanned aerial systems (cUAS) and related threats. —Other systems like palletized high-energy lasers (e.g., P-HEL/LOCUST variants) and earlier demonstrators (e.g., on USS Ponce in 2014) confirm operational experience exists, though at modest scales (tens of kilowatts) and primarily for counter-drone/missil

This is a computational electromagnetics simulation of a magnetron. A magnetron is a high-power microwave oscillator that uses crossed electric and magnetic fields to control electrons inside resonant cavities. Here, electrons emitted from the central cathode begin to organize into rotating spokes. As they phase-lock with the cavity field, they transfer energy into the resonant microwave mode and sustain the oscillation. Magnetrons are used in microwave ovens, radar systems, industrial heating, plasma generation, and high-power microwave sources.

The USS Gerald R Ford, which was recently deployed closer to Israel, will reportedly be transitioning to an advanced laser defense system. The lasers, which travel at the speed of light, are able to burn holes through enemy assets like drones. Firing a single laser beam costs between $1 and $10. For comparison, a defensive missile can cost between $1 million - $10 million. The lasers, which were first tested in 2014, were introduced to combat China's latest hypersonic missiles. The Navy will soon be testing the Hellcat, High Energy Laser Counter Anti-Ship Cruise Missile, a 300-kilowatt laser that would be able to counter a hypersonic weapon. It is unclear if the aircraft carrier is currently equipped with one of the lower kilowatt laser systems.

It’s a beautiful #ScorseseSunday & a reminder that Raging Bull should be mentioned as Marty’s career high point, as with De Niro. Goodfellas & Taxi Driver are frequently at the top of most people’s lists, but Raging Bull is some of the best filmmaking I’ve ever seen from Marty.

A viral footage from Gaza is highlighting a critical reality of modern warfare. In the video, fighters from Al-Qassam Brigades are seen targeting a Merkava tank using a close-range explosive device. Reports suggest the use of a “Shawaz” IED, believed to function like an Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP) designed to penetrate armored vehicles by focusing explosive energy into a high-speed metal jet. Despite advanced protection systems and surveillance, even modern tanks can be vulnerable at close range, especially in dense urban environments. This incident shows how low-cost, improvised weapons can challenge high-tech military systems. It’s a reminder that in today’s conflicts, strategy and positioning can matter as much as technology. #iran #IranWar #HamasIsISIS #Israel #GazaHumanitarianCrisis #GazaCrisis

PROJECT MAVEN and the U.S. Military's Cutting-Edge Arsenal of AI-Driven Warfare and Directed Energy Weapons. This is an important deep dive into one of the U.S. Department of War's most transformative initiatives, a game-changer that's reshaping modern warfare through artificial intelligence. Launched in 2017 under the Algorithmic Warfare Cross-Functional Team, Project Maven isn't just another tech buzzword; it's the Pentagon's flagship AI program designed to supercharge military intelligence by automating the analysis of vast troves of data from drones, satellites, and surveillance feeds. Highlighting how Maven uses machine learning and computer vision to detect, classify, and track targets in real-time, compressing the "kill chain" from hours to minutes. The weapon and defense systems powering this revolution, including the seamless integration of Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs). Project Maven serves as the brain, processing petabytes of imagery to identify threats like enemy vehicles, personnel, or infrastructure with pinpoint accuracy—far beyond what human analysts could achieve alone. Initially deployed against ISIS in 2017, it fused data from full-motion video (FMV) and other sensors to flag potential strikes, always with human oversight in the loop to ensure ethical decision-making. Today, under the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), Maven has expanded to all military branches—Army, Air Force, Space Force, Navy, and Marines—via platforms like the Maven Smart System (MSS). MSS isn't just about detection; it's a force multiplier, enabling rapid targeting in exercises like Scarlet Dragon, where it slashed manpower needs from thousands to mere dozens while handling complex scenarios in CENTCOM and beyond. Now, pair this AI prowess with the U.S. military's Directed Energy Weapons, and you get a lethal, futuristic synergy. DEWs harness concentrated electromagnetic energy—think high-energy lasers (HELs) and high-power microwaves (HPMs)—to neutralize threats without traditional munitions, offering infinite "ammo." These aren't hypothetical; they're operational and evolving rapidly. High-Energy Lasers (HELs), systems like the Navy's HELIOS (High-Energy Laser with Integrated Optical-Dazzler and Surveillance) aboard destroyers like the USS Preble deliver speed-of-light strikes to down drones, missiles, or small boats for pennies per shot. Integrated with Maven's AI targeting, HELIOS can acquire, track, and zap threats in swarms, as demonstrated in recent Pacific tests. The Army's DE M-SHORAD (Directed Energy Maneuver-Short Range Air Defense) prototype, mounted on Stryker vehicles, recently shredded drone swarms at Fort Sill, blending lasers with kinetic defenses for layered protection. High-Power Microwaves (HPMs), weapons like the Air Force's THOR (Tactical High-Power Operational Responder) unleash radiofrequency waves to fry electronics in drones or missiles from afar, covering wide areas with a single pulse. In urban or congested environments, HPMs provide non-lethal options, disrupting signals without collateral damage—perfect for Maven-identified targets in sensitive ops. Broader Defense Ecosystems, Maven feeds into systems like the Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2), linking sensors across domains for seamless ops. DEWs complement this by offering scalable effects—from dazzling sensors (e.g., Vigilant Eagle for airport defense) to outright destruction. The Pentagon's Directed Energy Roadmap, with $1 billion annual investments, pushes for higher power outputs to tackle hypersonic threats, while initiatives like the High Energy Laser Scaling Initiative bolster industrial production. What makes this combo so revolutionary? Speed, precision, and cost-efficiency. Maven's AI spots the threat; DEWs eliminate it at light speed, with deep "magazines" that outlast ammo stockpiles. Project Maven is the spark igniting this fire, keeping the U.S. ahead in an era where data and energy are the ultimate weapons.

🚨🇺🇸 BREAKING: Game-Changer in Anti-Drone Warfare US-based company Epirus has successfully demonstrated its cutting-edge anti-swarm technology Leonidas, disabling 49 drones in a single strike. Just last month, the system proved its unmatched potential by taking down 61 drones from multiple unknown directions, showcasing its ability to counter complex swarm tactics. Unlike older vacuum systems, Leonidas uses gallium-nitride semiconductors to generate high-powered microwave emissions. This design allows operators to adapt and optimize the waves in real time, ensuring maximum impact on hostile drones. The takeaway: drone warfare has long favored attackers due to lower costs and higher saturation. With systems like Leonidas, the balance of power may finally begin to shift toward the defenders.

Launch Racks and the fleets A few days ago, I discussed how CIWS would be of limited help against a drone swarm due to their slow movement and limited ammunition. What about modernized electronic warfare systems like the SLQ-32? They run into the same old problem: they are effective against traditional homing seekers, but modern drones use multifunctional seekers that are highly resistant to jamming, as we have seen in Ukraine. These drones are quite stealthy, have good speed, and nighttime attacks would pose an enormous risk. Drones carrying 50–80 kg tandem warheads, launched in the hundreds, would devastate a ship’s radar arrays and could repeatedly strike the VLS cells, triggering massive explosions and fires. Although VLS cells are designed to contain a single missile explosion, they cannot withstand successive hits with multiple warheads detonating and hiting the missiles. Everything would turn into a twisted heap of metal engulfed in intense fire. The result would be an immediate mission kill, with uncontrolled fires putting the entire ship at risk and leaving it completely vulnerable to follow-on attacks. Imagine the disaster that around 100 launch racks like these could inflict. We are talking about 500-700 drones against a fleet Every navy in the world is facing this moment. Two countermeasures show promise for the coming years as additional layers of defense: high energy lasers and high-power microwave (HPM) systems. In the U.S. Navy in particular, significant progress has been made with layered defenses such as the HELIOS laser system. However, it faces major limitations in adverse weather conditions. Atmospheric factors like rain, fog, snow, dust, or high humidity cause beam scattering, absorption, and turbulence, sharply reducing effective range and power delivery. Moreover, the laser requires several seconds of dwell time on a target to neutralize it by burning through components. Against a swarm, this helps with individual threats but is insufficient to engage multiple targets simultaneously or rapidly enough to stop a large-scale attack. In the case of high-power microwave systems, the situation is different. Unlike lasers, which use a narrow, precise beam, HPM systems produce a wider, more diffuse beam that loses energy density with distance. This limits effective range and makes it harder to engage distant, dispersed, or high-speed terminal-phase targets. Additionally, their high power consumption, size, weight, and advanced cooling requirements complicate integration on naval platforms. Another concern is the risk of collateral effects on friendly electronics or the ship’s own communications and sensors. These are promising countermeasures, but they only add layers; they are not definitive solutions. Large Drone swarms will remain a serious problem for many years to come. This doesn’t even touch on UUVs and USVs, which are another issue and I’ll cover in the next post.

🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran's Handala Claims to HACK FBI Security Drones Handala claims it infiltrated FBI surveillance drones equipped with facial recognition and license plate recognition systems, gaining access to live feeds, images, and internal monitoring data for months. The group says it obtained footage directly from FBI-operated drones and mocked FBI Director Kash Patel, referencing the $10 million bounty offered for information leading to its members. Handala also threatened security operations surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, claiming U.S. authorities cannot secure their own surveillance systems while warning that "FPVs are everywhere." The group further claimed access to U.S. military drone feeds and said it is "always one step ahead of the shadows." If true, the breach would represent a major failure of U.S. surveillance and counterterrorism infrastructure. U.S. authorities have not publicly confirmed the claims.

Elon Musk just unveiled SpaceXAI's first AI satellite. • 150 kW peak power / 120 kW sustained compute power • 150 kW solar array using SpaceX-manufactured solar technology • Centralized AI compute payload designed for high-performance AI workloads • 70-meter wingspan when fully deployed • 110 m² deployable liquid radiators to remove waste heat in space • Redundant cooling loops with integrated micrometeoroid shielding • Designed to launch on Starship, enabling the mass-to-orbit needed for large-scale space computing • Uses laser links while avoiding many of the complex communications systems required by Starlink satellites • SpaceX believes future versions can scale far beyond this first design Elon Musk says the path to scaling AI in space requires 3 things: • Massive launch capability (Starship) • Enormous solar power generation • Large radiators to reject heat from AI chips He also suggested that truly large-scale orbital AI could eventually require hundreds of gigawatts to a terawatt of power, implying millions of tons of infrastructure in orbit.

🇺🇸🇮🇱12 DAYS, 80 MISSILES, 20% OF U.S. THAAD STOCK GONE IN ISRAEL-IRAN WAR During its defense of Israel, the U.S. launched 60 to 80 THAAD interceptors, burning through 15–20% of its global inventory in less than 2 weeks. Each interceptor costs $12–15 million, putting the total price tag between $810 million and $1.2 billion. With only 7 THAAD systems deployed worldwide and an eighth on the way, that's a massive chunk of the arsenal gone in days. High-altitude defense doesn’t come cheap - especially at that pace. General Syrskyi: At present, we're making virtually no use of armoured vehicles. Our military personnel, just like enemy, effectively advancing on foot, as in World War I. In order to reach front line for offensive operations, infantryman sometimes has to march 10-15 km on foot. This raises the question: how can we neutralise this advantage enjoyed by drones and give our armour a new lease of life? The answer lies in developing active defence systems that will shoot down drones themselves and complement the existing system, where drones are used to shoot down other drones. Then all conventional types of weaponry — tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery — will be given a new lease of life and will once again be deployed extensively. But these will no longer be tanks or infantry fighting vehicles in the conventional sense, but highly sophisticated systems capable of countering various threats posed by drones.

BIG | 🇺🇦🇷🇺‼️‼️ Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces are reporting a sharp increase in confirmed Russian casualties, with their commander Robert “Madiar” Brovdi saying the first half of September produced a 25.6% increase compared with the same period in August. According to Brovdi, Ukraine’s Delta battlefield system recorded 6,280 Russian troops killed or severely wounded by Unmanned Systems Forces between September 1 and 15, compared with 4,998 during the first half of August. That puts the current average at roughly 419 confirmed casualties per day, while the force is aiming for 12,500 during September. Brovdi also warned that the intensity could increase further in October–December as Russia seeks to bring significantly more personnel into the war. The figures highlight how rapidly Ukraine is scaling its unmanned warfare capabilities as Russia continues relying on a much larger manpower pool. Kyiv’s challenge is increasingly about turning technological adaptation and mass drone production into enough battlefield pressure to offset Moscow’s numerical advantage. The September data released by Brovdi suggests Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces are pushing that model at an increasingly high tempo. See the latest updates with us: Visioner
