🔥 Group B 🔥 🇫🇷 Renault 5 Maxi Turbo Only 20 ever made. 385-400bhp 905kg 130 mph depending on gearing 0-60 around 4.5secs The Renault 5 Maxi Turbo is the ultimate evolution of the mid-engined R5 Turbo, specifically engineered for the legendary Group B rally era. While the original Turbo 1 and Turbo 2 were formidable, the Maxi (launched in 1985) was a purpose-built tarmac specialist designed to reclaim Renault’s dominance against the rising tide of all-wheel-drive competitors. The Maxi used a massive Garrett T31 turbocharger and pioneered a "DPV" (Dispositif de Pre-Rotation Variable) system to minimize turbo lag—a precursor to modern anti-lag systems. Unlike the Audi Quattro or Peugeot 205 T16, which used 4WD to conquer gravel and snow, the R5 Maxi Turbo remained RWD. This made it a specialized "scalpel" for paved stages. The Maxi is instantly recognizable by its extreme wide-body kit, massive integrated front spotlights, and the large rear spoiler designed to keep the rear-heavy car pinned through corners. Only 20 units of the full-spec "Maxi" were officially produced for competition homologation, making them some of the rarest and most expensive Renaults in existence. Today, they are prized for their "flame-spitting" character and as a symbol of the peak of 1980s rally engineering.
