Impressive. Only slightly slower than browsers rendering webpages today.

Also, forgive my ignorance (this era of computing pre-dates me by a couple years) but I assume that program is not running "locally" on the terminal, right? If not, what's it connected to?

Right. It’s just a terminal. It’s connected to a local linux box over a serial tty connection. So the host is doing the work of converting web page to sixel coded image, then sends that over the wire. This terminal was the first color terminal to support sixel graphics.

Wild! By rendering, do you mean you're parsing the HTML/CSS? And if so, how on earth are you doing that?
