Transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) devices that are currently undergoing clinical testing have a high anatomical screen failure rate due to challenges with annulus size or left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. The Saturn valve (InnovHeart) is a novel TMVR bioprosthesis that has a central valve mechanically connected to an annular ring. A valve spring inside a running engine does more than compress and release. The spring also rotates slowly along its axis with each cycle, and that rotation is intentional. The valve face strikes the same metal seat thousands of times a minute, and without rotation any single contact point would wear down unevenly. By spreading that contact around the full circumference, the rotation evens out heat and mechanical wear so the valve seals cleanly for much longer. White marks painted on the coils make the rotation visible on camera. Without them, the movement would be impossible to see.

It's always fascinating to watch the outflow valve (OFV) close during takeoff. This marks the beginning of the aircraft’s pre-pressurisation cycle. While it does provide a smoother transition to pressurised flight and improves passenger comfort, its main purpose goes beyond that. The primary reason for closing the outflow valve at takeoff is to prevent a slight pressure bump that occurs during aircraft rotation. At high angles of attack, an air cushion effect forms over the aft outflow valve, which can cause a momentary reverse airflow - potentially pushing air back into the cabin through the OFV. This pre-pressurization prevents FOD from being blown into the cabin, and this is also the reason the airplane lands with a slightly pressurized cabin. #FunFact

We evaluated 820 patients treated with TS MViR using the Sapien 3/Ultra/RESILIA THVs between Aug 2015 and Dec 2022 who were enrolled in the STS/ACC TVT Registry. We found a significant reduction in MR and sustained improvement in symptoms at 1 year. Mean mitral gradients were elevated at 30 days (7.9 ± 3.0 mmHg) and at 1 year (8.4 ± 3.4 mmHg), and reintervention rate was high at 1 year (9.1%). However, there was a significant improvement in quality of life which was sustained at 1 year (mean KCCQ score improvement at 30-day was 24.1 points and at 1 year was 25.9). Valve has been hit by yet another class action lawsuit in the Netherlands, this time from Consumer Competition Claims (CCC). The CCC claims that Valve holds a dominant position in the market, estimated at around 85%, and is breaching competition law through so-called "Most Favoured Nation" clauses. They argue that Valve’s 30 percent cut on all game sales is too high and reflects monopolistic behaviour. Dutch consumers have suffered total damages of more than €220 million. Source: GameClaim

So I’m a total noob to nh3 coolers, can anyone help me out? I’m getting major rate fluctuations. Any advice on valve calibrations for the old style? I’m using 2123, have tried 2513 and 1523 with not a lot of improvement. Also what regulated flow through these old coolers? Seems like the pipe going to the flow meter is room temperature. I see the vortex style list an orifice but not the super cooler

Love that sound. This is a V10 being put through it's paces. Classic Formula 1 V10 engines (used primarily between 1989 and 2005) rotated at blistering speeds of 18,000 to over 21,000 RPM. This translates to the crankshaft spinning 300 to 350 times every single second. To sustain these speeds without literally tearing themselves apart, engineers utilized pneumatic valve systems. Instead of traditional metal valve springs, these engines used pressurized air to open and close the valves, ensuring up to 300 rapid movements per second without valve "float" Around 2001, I was involved in a project with Sturman Industries, to try and develop a camless engine for the oil patch. I met Eddie Sturman, a crazy inventor who's brain never stopped thinking about ways to improve engines. We succeeded in making a cylinder head with digital valves that could be adjusted instantly to compensate for any fuel mixture. We had 12 cylinder engines running in 2 cycle, 4 cycle, and 6 cycle. Eddie's wife would come around, and gently pull him away from his work, so he could go take a nap and re-energize his brain.
