We should be able to vote “no confidence” this vote would mean the current heads of parties must resign the position and a new election to be held in 6 months time with new leaders and policies

Optional voting is why the Muslim bloc voters won in the UK and other European countries with a lot of Muslim population. There are people who can’t be bothered to vote because they mistakenly think their votes won’t matter anyway. Australia needs to keep voting mandatory!

We really need to run a Socials campaign to pressure the ABC to have @SenatorRennick on the next QandA. Rennick has 93K followers on X, Surley a timed surge of half that would get #Rennickonqanda trending. We have to back him, Whos in?

it's not only the informal or the 'don't care' votes, mandatory voting forces every election to appear statistically legitimate. Like this election, the two choices are garbage, but the winner, via the preferential voting system, gets the majority vote anyway, looking like people actually voted for that person, when really it's more like 10-20% of the country might have. Good recipe for an unhappy society of people who 'didn't vote for that guy'.

I totally agree, so many people seem to be totally disinterested in politics, the policies and their implications. We all pay the price!

Democracy should mean you have a choice. Compulsory voting and fines for not voting ain't democratic.
