Yes. It's more than a harmless gesture. It encapsulates xenophobia, racism, demeaning stereotypes, and a long history of anti-Asian hate. Your visceral reaction is understandable. I felt it, too.

Laycon : For me I think it’s a process , I didn’t go to film school because I wanted to jump into everything at the same time , before I went back to Uni , movie producers approached me , you did great in the house , we want you on this film , and me I Dey always think about things and I was like why this person come meet me , you haven’t seen me act , so I think it’s because it’s me not because of my acting talent and you just want your movie to do numbers and then I think it’s a disrespect to the act to just jumping to something without having proper knowledge!!!
