A few months ago, I was approached by a group of concerned New Yorkers from a wide ideological spectrum to run for Jerry Nadler's seat in Congress. I told them I'd have to seriously think about it before I decided anything. Today, I made my decision: The Democratic Party of today is unrecognizable from the Party I registered to vote as the day I turned 18. *Every* declared candidate has promised not to cooperate with federal law enforcement even in detaining the most violent, criminal illegal immigrants. One candidate declared his dream is to see "federal housing lining the streets." Some of the candidates have pledged to abolish private health insurance altogether in favor of Medicare for All. In the Zohran-slop that is this election, I will not degrade myself in a race to the bottom and lie to my constituents by promising ludicrous, fanciful policies that have no place in reality. This election is about who can run to the left of AOC and find creative ways to blame Israel for the affordability crisis, and I cannot pretend to be someone I'm not. This election is serving 14 people's ego, not New Yorkers. I believe in federal action to combat climate change and a $15 minimum wage just as much as I believe in free market capitalism and the superiority of American culture and society. I want a return to normalcy and will work hard on achieving that, but the state of the Demcorstic Party clearly indicate this is not the right time for a Moderate focused on bipartisan solutions. I have deep concern for my City, especially as Mamdani threatens to abolish all we worked hard to build. So I propose that we New Yorkers, Democrats and Republicans alike, work together to solve our issues in a bipartisan fashion and recognize our ability to impart change far outweighs any one Congressman. Onward!
