Resharing for the weekend long-readers. A little while back, I heard Matt Berninger, the frontman of The National, mention that he’d taken to writing lyrics on baseballs. It seemed worth looking into. And it was. Story:

Q. EVAN, what comes to mind first when you're working on a song? Melody/Lyrics/Emotion/Words 🦌: For me, it's the melody and the track! Then the next is lyrics. on how #jungwon started writing dear me: 😺 i once added a moon emoji to my wv profile, and that was actually from back when I was working on dear me. 😺 while i was out taking walks, i spent a lot of time looking up at the moon. 😺 the crescent moon caught my eye. sometimes it looked like it was smiling, and other times it looked like it was crying. but when I tried to zoom in to take a photo, it actually looked like a full moon. 😺 it made me realize that everything really depends on how you choose to give it meaning. that’s how i started writing the lyrics for dear me.

“You sleep on concrete for that long, and you hate it while you’re there, but then, when you get back, you’re not used to it—the bed. I feel like I’m sinking into it.” Mark Swidan was imprisoned in China for 12 years on false charges. He tells his story for the first time to Peter Savodnik.

"'Graffiti on the Train' is a turning point moment for the band. The process of writing that album was unlike any other and fed into the next two albums. My back was against the wall, and I went to work hard for three+ years... It stands up”. Kelly

SoundCloud Stories “Blue Lips” 🦒 blue lips is a song that goes all the way back to 2022, before i debut. most of the songs on this album were made after we debut, but this one has been with me for so long, so always have special place in my heart. when i first wrote it, it came from feelings and thoughs iʼve been holding on to for a while. looking back, i think i was going through one of those moments where i felt a little lonely, sad, but back then, it was completely my own story. but when we reworked it for this album, it naturally involved into a song that reflects all five of us. we shaped it together, and i think thatʼs what gave it the sound and identity it has now. one thing this song taught me is that the more personal a story is, the more people can actually connect with it, you know, deeper. seeing people relate to blue lips made this song even more meaningful to me #MARTIN #마틴

THE WAY TABLO SAID HE WAITED THE RELEASE OF 'STOP THE RAIN' AN ASKED FOR NAMJOON APPROVAL BECAUSE THE LYRICS WERE TOO PERSONAL🥺 "We were so into making the song that I didn't realize we were writing such personal lyrics; I didn't know if it was ok to drop it"

The BBC. Earlier today I spoke in a Westminster Hall on the future of the BBC. I was surrounded by Labour MPs talking absolute nonsense about the honesty, integrity and value for money it offers. Some even said it needed more money. One called it a national treasure. No mention of the scandals and dodgy TV personalities they have harboured. I called out the perverts past and present that stalked the corridors of the BBC. 4 minutes long and worth a watch 👇

260225 stationhead listening party 🐰: the parts i paid especially close attention to while writing lyrics (for ‘what it is’) were mostly jeno’s parts.(laughs) yes, many of the lyrics are for jeno’s parts, and there were many areas where i tried to add a bit of a visual element to them, so please listen closely to jeno’s parts. there are also very sincere lyrics in the chorus, and the last chorus really explodes emotionally, so i hope you enjoy it. jeno, which part of the lyrics did you like the most? 🐶: i was really surprised that jaemin participated in writing the lyrics, and honestly, i liked all of it. but my favorite line is ‘catching my breath in the fast tempo, i like you.’ it’s a really fast part, and it still sticks with me.

An army shared their story of how Blue & Grey by Taehyung gave them strength to go on! 👤 The tattoo says ‘where's my angel?’, which is the first line of the song Blue and Grey by BTS. And the reason why I got it is because I was going through a mental breakdown. And then at 4 in the morning, I was listening to BTS, and this is like three weeks into me being a fan of BTS. Then I read the lyrics, and it was the first time I ever heard the song ever in life. And then I read the lyrics, and then this lyric really stuck out to me, so I put it on my chest, under my collarbone. So that's what my tattoo says, it's just a lyric from Blue and Grey because that song means a lot to me. So thank you, Mr. Kim Taehyung, for writing it, because you really saved my life with that one. So I've been good. ( Taehyung’s songs and lyrics have given so many of us comfort. Thank you so much.

Karolina Muchova after losing to Linda Noskova in the Wimbledon final: "She was obviously on top for the first set and a half. But you must be proud of how you were able to turn it around and fight back and take it to a third." Karolina: "I think I started really slow today. On the other hand, Linda started really strong. Really good serving games, and she played really fast. I was kind of looking for myself. It took a lot of power and strength out of me to get back into that 2nd set. I gave it my all to get back... the people were cheering on me, I felt it, I felt the support. I felt the momentum in the 2nd set and I turned it around. It was definitely nice that it happened. It was tough. As I said, it took some strength out of me and unfortunately the start of the 3rd kind of slipped through my fingers."

This was one of my club jokes from the mid 2000s that later i got to do on TV and use in a special. I go into the writing process for this joke in great detail on the comedian’s comedian podcast. If you’re into joke stuff that bit of it is worth a listen. The rest you can probably skip, thats the good bit

Senator Matt Canavan goes into bat for the good people who marched on the weekend. It was simply a call for proper management of migration. Ensuring assimilation into the Aussie way of life.

I thought the recorded part of the crash out tonight was bad but then DSP continued it into the unrecorded segment and it felt worse. Legit, shitting on a long term supporter and stalling that hard for money while looping was nuts. 😂

New from me The Verge: I wrote about all the SEO tricks that people say are ruining the web. Table of contents, keyword-addled writing, all that extra text everywhere. The story has visuals that track a fake site as it morphs into a site optimized for Google Search, not readers.

I was 18 when I wrote Foolish Games. It was heavily influenced by the writing of Pablo Neruda and Leonard Cohen. I wanted to write lyrics that you could see in your head- like stepping into a movie. For the video, I worked with long-time collaborator Matthew Rolston- and drew from imagery that had to do with being bridled, owned, tamed, and a desire to be free of the constraints of the male gaze. Did this song resonate with you?
