Ret. Gen. Frank McKenzie, former CENTCOM commander, explains why he thinks the Doha Agreement — the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan negotiated by the Trump administration, and later implemented under President Biden — was "one of the worst negotiating mistakes ever made by the U.S." He says the Doha Agreement...

@MikePerryavatar An agreement created by one president to purposely make it difficult for the next is definitely NOT the way to 'pass the baton.' Hindsight on implementation by Biden helps but the damage was done when Trump put it into place. Awful, sad result regardless.

Trump made the deal with the Taliban. Remember he wanted to invite them to camp David on 9/11?

@thomasjoscelyn Just a reminder that pentagon officials kept saying for 20 years thru 4 presidential administrations that we should stay in Afghanistan. Things were going to get better … some day. Some day never came.

The Doha Agreement stands out as the most disastrous deal in the entire history of US foreign policy. Without a doubt, this ill-fated agreement dismantled the Afghan Republic, extinguished any hope of resisting the Taliban, and inflicted the gravest tragedy upon #Afghanistan in modern times. The psychological toll of this agreement weighed heavily on Afghans who were already ensnared in the web of Afghanistan’s conspiratorial political culture, which skillfully exploited by the Taliban in their propaganda warfare.

"Had we actually stuck to the strict terms of the agreement, we might have been able to make something of it"... FTN trying to mislead their audience (& voters) by tying Trump to the FAILED EXIT from Afghanistan. That was 100% Biden. Trump could have done the same, but did NOT.

@tufkaa Maybe it wasn’t a mistake. Maybe it was a deliberate move to weaken our position in Asia.

ALERT: The Trump Criticizes U.S. Withdrawal From Afghanistan, Slams Abandonment of Military Equipment Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has once again sharply criticized the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, describing it as a “shameful day” in American history and condemning the decision to leave behind large amounts of military equipment. Speaking to supporters on Wednesday, Trump blamed the administration of former U.S. president Joe Biden for the way the withdrawal was handled, particularly the departure from Bagram Air Base and the abandonment of American military assets. “Instead of leaving with dignity and strength, they ran away,” Trump said. “There was really no reason for it. We were there, and I had said we would leave with power and dignity.” Trump added that although the Taliban did not like him, they would still carry out what he asked. “The Taliban didn’t like me, but they did whatever I wanted,” he said. He also criticized the decision to leave behind U.S. military equipment in Afghanistan, saying he had insisted that all equipment should be removed during the withdrawal. “I emphasized that every piece of equipment should leave with us,” Trump said. “But they claimed it was cheaper to abandon the aircraft.” Trump argued that the decision made little sense, noting that a new fighter jet can cost about $150 million and could have been flown out simply by refueling, yet officials still insisted on leaving the aircraft behind.
