@elonmusk My 96 yo grandfather still builds kitchens in his spare time. I've never known anyone more consistently productive, and he loves it. I truly believe it is the reason he's still independent at 96. He's my hero ❤️

What goddamn la la planet are these people on? Yeah, retirement will become obsolete because we'll be working AI-proof jobs until we drop.

Will we still have to pay taxes in the abundance future? Ray talks about and you are promoting "working" well past retirement, but also redefining work as a hobby. What is the point of paying taxes in a abundant future, shouldn't robots be able to pay off the national debt? And if they can do that would politicians try and find a way to spend more and more? Will we be able to limit politicians to spending below our means at some point?

Complete BS. I retired in 2022 at 66 after working for 49 years, 32 running my own IT Professional Services company. I built up my own private pension, paid off my mortgage and own everything. I just have fun now playing, writing and recording music.

@elonmusk Also, roughly 1 in 5 people who retire at 65 won’t make it to 75. They die within ~ 10 years of retirement. How sad is that!? That should change. More fulfillment and healthier and longer lives. Amazing abundance!

For those who serve a master: you are correct. That's why my Italian grandfather who escaped Mussolini always said, "You never get rich working for the man." You should always raise your children to work for themselves at something they would love to do for the rest of their lives. That's what it means to have a career.

This is actually the dream scenario and something I am thinking about a lot these days. Most of the USA (including me) was forcing a job that they hated, simply for money. And the hope that one day they would not have to do it anymore. But what if you actually enjoy your work AND also make a lot of money? That is the true holy grail..

@elonmusk It’s the “find something within their means that gives them gratification..” part that raises more questions. That signals to me that you’d better have quite a bit of cash piled up before this happens.

It’s similar to the difference in life today vs the 1700’s. If you weren’t growing your own food, you were in trouble. That’s where your time went- to labor for sustenance. Now you labor to produce income for sustenance and other things. What’s the next step?

@elonmusk This would imply that individuals, not businesses, will own their own AI bots/ robots/ etc. if laws are not made to ensure this corporations will simply purchase those ai tools and cut employees out.

@elonmusk I don't think most humans would know how to effectively and productively use all of that free time. Many would just sit around. The system needs to reward challenge, by giving more money to those who are productive, rather than being couch potatoes.

@elonmusk My problem with not working is that a lot of people will use this free time to be destructive as they have no moral compass and will slide into deviant behaviors.

People who don't "understand" retirement are probably those who do what they love and earn (really) a lot of money doing it, whose work usually involves more mental than physical effort and little hassle in the process, or it's work that feeds their ego. Incidentally, "you will earn your daily bread by the sweat of your brow" was part of the punishment applied to Adam and Eve when they were expelled from Paradise.

The Navy taught me this at 22. Purpose isn't something you retire FROM… it's what keeps you going. Now at 38, I'm training for marathons and building an AI running coach. Work feels like play. Why would I ever stop?

We can't afford a bunch of geriatrics still robbing us blind well into their withering years. Just look at Congress for a good example. They're all crooked and still destroying America. They made their own rules, and we can't get them out of there. Retirement is just not for you but a well-needed refreshment of minds and souls.

@elonmusk UBI should start with those closest to retirement. If LEV is a thing then the older generation may miss out on it. It would be good to let them live their best life as soon as possible. Then lower the age of UBI as the tech expands.
