I’m afraid I have some terrible news. The governor of America’s largest and richest state has just signed a law that puts 10 million children and adolescents in grave danger of medical mistreatment. The media headlines have it wrong. They claim that California Governor Gavin Newsom’s new law protects children by stopping public schools from outing their new gender to their parents. It does just the opposite. It makes children vulnerable to irreversible and lifelong medical abuse and mistreatment. And it is all based on the pseudoscientific idea that some children are born into the wrong bodies and that we can change a person’s sex through drugs and surgery. For any of this to make sense, you have to understand what’s happening in Britain. Several years ago, the government appointed a well-respected pediatrician named Hillary Cass to investigate whether it was ethical to block the puberty of children, give them opposite-sex hormones, and perform surgeries on their bodies to make them feel better about their gender. Dr. Cass came back a few weeks ago and said no, absolutely not. Around the same time, the British government banned puberty blockers nationwide. And, just a few days ago, the new Labor Party government affirmed that it would maintain the former government’s ban. In her report, Cass said that the so-called “social transition,” whereby a child adopts the identity of the opposite sex, is not a neutral act and has psychological consequences. This means it is the first step toward medical intervention. What Gavin Newsom has done is actively prevented schools from informing parents that their children have been put on a medical pathway. This is an outrageous attack on the rights of children and parents. Children have a right to go through puberty. No adult should be able to block their puberty. And parents have a right to know if their child thinks that they are the opposite sex or were born into the wrong body. We have seen with leaked internal documents of the leading gender medicine group, WPATH, that these medical interventions, namely puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery, are not only irreversible but result in sterilization and loss of sexual function. Children or adolescents are simply not mature enough to understand the effects of so-called “gender-affirming care.” They cannot, in other words, give their informed consent. The new law creates the grave risk that activist teachers, students, and outside groups will convince their children that they were born into the wrong body, and hide their “social transition” from parents, which will lead to harmful medical mistreatment. As such, the law that Newsom just signed is the opposite of what both children and their parents need. We need schools to immediately warn parents if their children think they are the opposite sex. After all, this is a diagnosable psychiatric condition known as “gender dysphoria.” And if your child has a psychiatric disorder, whether anxiety, depression, an eating disorder, or gender dysphoria, you have a right to know. And schools must stop teaching children, or allowing other people to teach children, the pseudoscientific and dehumanizing ideas that it’s possible to be born into the wrong body and possible to change one’s sex. As such, either the legislature, the courts, or a ballot initiative will be required to nullify Newsom’s law. Until then, it is important to spread the word to parents that California public schools are fundamentally unsafe for the millions of children who attend them.

LEAKED: Trans-Care Training Videos By Beleaguered Top Gender-Clinic Doctor, Part 1 I have obtained 12 hours of videos of top pediatric-gender-clinic physician Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy and her colleagues, including her husband, providing training to mental-health providers on how to treat minors who have gender dysphoria or otherwise identify as transgender or nonbinary. This is the first of 12 installments I will post during the coming weeks of these videos. Subscribe to my newsletter (link in bio) to receive all of them as I publish them. A 19-year veteran of the pediatric gender medicine field and one of its leading physician-researchers and advocates, Dr. Olson-Kennedy is the medical director of the gender clinic at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. According to figures she provided during this particular video, annual referrals to her clinic surged from just 25 in 2010 to 436 in 2022—following a similar pattern seen in clinics throughout the Western world. The past six months have been challenging for Dr. Olson-Kennedy, to say the least. Dr. Olson-Kennedy is the principal investigator on a National Institutes of Health grant for a long-running research project concerning pediatric gender-transition treatment, one that has received over $10 million to date. In October, The New York Times reported that she has withheld null findings from a study of puberty blockers funded by this grant, doing so for political reasons. The grant is now the subject of a probe by congressional Republicans. In November, however, she asserted in a sworn deposition in a civil case that the Times had mischaracterized her words. In December, Dr. Olson-Kennedy was sued by a former patient, Clementine Breen, who reported that the gender doctor prescribed her puberty blockers at age 12—on her first appointment, without a psychological assessment—and testosterone at age 13, and then referred her to receive a double mastectomy at age 14. Ms. Breen, now 20, has since detransitioned, reverting to presenting and identifying as a woman. The Trump administration has unleashed an onslaught against the field of pediatric gender medicine, seeking to wipe it off the map. In recent weeks, the NIH has been canceling research grants related to transgender people, including those conducted with animal models. There is currently a preliminary injunction in place to block the president’s executive order that would freeze federal funds to hospitals that provide gender-transition interventions to those under age 19. Prior to the injunction, Dr. Olson-Kennedy’s clinic had “paused” new cross-sex hormone treatments for youth, only to lift the pause a couple of weeks later. It remains unclear whether the grant for which Dr. Olson-Kennedy is the top investigator has been canceled. But it is no longer listed on the NIH site where active grants are described. I reached out to Dr. Olson-Kennedy and her co-principal investigators on the grant to ask about its status. I did not hear back. Prior to the October Times article, Dr. Olson-Kennedy was perhaps best known by the general public for a previous leaked video in which she was giving a training in 2018 to mental health care providers on how to write referral letters for minors seeking gender-transition surgeries. In the video, she expresses exasperation with what she sees as hand wringing over whether natal girls will later regret having their breast removed during adolescence. (At least 1,000 such surgeries have been conducted annually in recent years.) She says: “What we do know is that adolescents actually have the capacity to make a reasonable, logical decision. And here’s the other thing about chest surgery. If you want breasts at a later point in your life, you can go and get them!” Ms. Breen recently reported that she was undergoing reconstructive surgery to provide herself with new breasts. However, it is very unlikely she will ever be able to breastfeed should she have children. Dr. Olson-Kennedy is also newly the president of USPATH, the U.S. branch of the medical-activist group the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. WPATH, which despite is name is largely a U.S.-based organization, has been besieged by damaging publicity over the past year, in particular after internal documents subpoenaed by Alabama’s attorney general revealed that its leadership was aware that the evidence behind pediatric gender medicine was weak and sought to paper over this fact. 12 hours of leaked Olson-Kennedy training videos The 12-hour training in what is known as the gender-affirming care method for minors who identify as trans or nonbinary took place in late April 2024—a few weeks after Britain published the Cass Review, which found that this medical field is based on “remarkably weak evidence.” The training was led by Dr. Olson-Kennedy; her husband, Aydin Olson-Kennedy, who has a doctorate in social work and is a transgender man; and licensed clinical social worker Darlene Tando. I obtained the videos a few months ago. The training videos are a window into not just the methods of these individuals, but their overall attitudes about gender dysphoria and transgender and nonbinary identification in children. A prevailing attitude they share is one of indignation and irritation with a medical system that demands that children betray a substantial level of distress before they are granted gender-transition medications. Overall, these three favor less gatekeeping and less pathologizing of the mental states and internal lives of the children in their care. If a gender-incongruent child arrives in their care absent any particular distress about their identification as the opposite sex, they believe that that child should be granted the opportunity to medically transition by taking puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones if the family wishes. I have edited the videos to snip or crop out images that would identify the participants in the training, whether because of Zoom-chat questions that pop up in the right-hand corner of the screen, or moments when a matrix of the participants is visible. WPATH, which despite is name is largely a U.S.-based organization, has been besieged by damaging publicity over the past year, in particular after internal documents subpoenaed by Alabama’s attorney general revealed that its leadership was aware that the evidence behind pediatric gender medicine was weak and sought to paper over this fact. 12 hours of leaked Olson-Kennedy training videos The 12-hour training in what is known as the gender-affirming care method for minors who identify as trans or nonbinary took place in late April 2024—a few weeks after Britain published the Cass Review, which found that this medical field is based on “remarkably weak evidence.” The training was led by Dr. Olson-Kennedy; her husband, Aydin Olson-Kennedy, who has a doctorate in social work and is a transgender man; and licensed clinical social worker Darlene Tando. I obtained the videos a few months ago. The training videos are a window into not just the methods of these individuals, but their overall attitudes about gender dysphoria and transgender and nonbinary identification in children. A prevailing attitude they share is one of indignation and irritation with a medical system that demands that children betray a substantial level of distress before they are granted gender-transition medications. Overall, these three favor less gatekeeping and less pathologizing of the mental states and internal lives of the children in their care. If a gender-incongruent child arrives in their care absent any particular distress about their identification as the opposite sex, they believe that that child should be granted the opportunity to medically transition by taking puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones if the family wishes. I have edited the videos to snip or crop out images that would identify the participants in the training, whether because of Zoom-chat questions that pop up in the right-hand corner of the screen, or moments when a matrix of the participants is visible. Data from a gender clinic in Britain that the government shut down because it was causing so much harm, Tavistock, found that more children see their mental health worsen than see it improve. Children are not old enough to give their informed consent for puberty blockers, and they are not medically necessary; the children can receive safe and evidence-based treatments for anxiety, such as family-based cognitive-behavioral therapy, and gender anxiety goes away for the vast majority of children once they go through puberty. Earlier this year, psychiatrist and former Tavistock gender clinic board member, David Bell, argued that the UK law demands that experiments minimize potential interference with a child’s “state of development.” And yet it is with a child’s “state of development” that puberty blockers are meant to interfere. The experiment will not allow the doctors or children to be “double-blind,” or ignorant of whether they are getting the chemical or a placebo. It is easy to imagine how doctors biased toward puberty blockers would treat the children receiving them in ways that might temporarily boost their mental health and distort self-reporting. And it is based on a pseudo-scientific ideology that posits the existence of a non-entity called “gender identity” in children’s brains. And, finally, the UK government already declared puberty blockers to be risky last year, which is why it prevented any doctor, not just those in the NHS, from prescribing them. The UK government says the lack of evidence for puberty blockers is why it must study them, and it was the author of last year’s report on trans medicine, pediatrician Hilary Cass, a Baroness in the House of Lords, who agreed to these experiments. And so for insurance companies, if you think of it as like a pyramid with the insurance company at the top, the insurance companies, since the law was enacted, bought up managers for pharmaceutical benefits, they bought up the hospitals, they bought up physician offices and clinics, all the way down to pharmacies where consumers get their drugs. And you say that may not be a bad thing, like bigger might be better because we can achieve economies of scale and cost savings and things like that, but really what we saw in the marketplace was higher premiums, higher deductibles, higher out-of-pocket costs, and less choice. So there's a couple of policies in the law that created that consolidation. - The first was that the law really limits consumer choice. It requires you to buy these very expensive, Cadillac expensive policies and then it defines how much you pay out of pocket, and the insurers have to meet all those requirements. What that did was in every state around the country, it created consolidation with insurers buying other insurers or merging with other insurers or really dominating the markets. So right now about two insurers per state control about 70% of the market, and what they can do when they control that much market share is charge higher premiums. That's the first issue - The second issue is called the medical loss ratio. That's just a fancy term that says the insurance company has to spend 80 or 85% of your premium dollar on medical care, so that means only 20% or 15%, can be used for profits and administrative costs. So, every incentive in the marketplace is for insurers to raise their premium so that they can get more profit and more revenue to spend on stuff. So one of the things that the medical loss ratio encouraged was these insurance companies to buy everything below the pyramid, so they started buying pharmacy benefit managers, and those manage your drug benefits They also bought physicians and hospitals. So one insurance company owns about 100,000 physicians in the United States. That's almost a 1/7 of the market And what they do in that arrangement is to avoid the profit cap caused by the medical loss ratio, they pay their physicians that they own more. So when they collect a dollar in, in revenue in their premiums, they then send a lot more money to the physicians that they own to earn money on that side. So they're earning money through the doctors, they're earning money through the premium, and it all kind of goes back up to the pyramid on top to the insurance company which owns everything”

Inside the Think Tank That Whitewashed Whitmer's Nursing Home Deaths CHRT, whose office was still closed for Covid when we visited, helped coordinate the glowing PR campaign By Charlie LeDuff Charlie LeDuff Ann Arbor — The Whitmer administration hired an “outside, independent non-profit” to conduct a nursing home response study back in 2020. That “independent” analysis ultimately claimed that Whitmer’s strategy of placing Covid-infected people inside nursing homes was a great success. The study was released to the Michigan media who took it as gospel, and the swirling questions about what was really happening behind closed doors came to an abrupt end. Now, Michigan Enjoyer has unearthed 50,000 pages of internal health department documents that throw the validity and independence of that study into question. We called the nonprofit’s office a dozen times. The recorded message was the same: “You have reached CHRT — the Center for Health and Research Transformation. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our office space is not open to visitors.” What in the world? Apparently, no one had informed the so-called experts that Biden had officially ended the pandemic three years ago. We left messages. None were returned. So we drove out to Ann Arbor to their office space. Damn their Covid restrictions. A security guard escorted us up to their second-floor suite and key-swiped us in. The place brought to mind an empty appliance box. The lights were on, but there were no people. There were eight cubicles with computer monitors but no computers. No photographs. No stacks of paperwork. Just dust and a moldering coffee pot. The security guard was discombobulated. “I’m just confused,” she said. “Me, too.” I said. Whitmer was facing tremendous pressure over her nursing home policy in the summer of 2020. She and her health experts had co-opted the practice of commingling the sick and healthy from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. But Cuomo had abandoned the practice 40 days into the pandemic under withering criticism from family members of people who had died in nursing homes. Whitmer, inexplicably, continued with the practice. And with the criticism mounting, she needed to show it worked. So her Health Department hired the Center for Health & Research Transformation through another nonprofit whose board of directors is controlled by Whitmer. CHRT was then headed by Marianne Udow-Phillips, a former Blue Cross Blue Shield executive and former director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services under Gov. Jennifer Granholm. The documents show that Udow-Phillips, a supposedly independent outsider, was actually an insider who was actively communicating with health officials while conducting the study. And they were planning a public relations push before the report was finalized. “We had a productive call with Marianne this afternoon,” a bureaucrat wrote to then Director of the Department of Human Services Robert Gordon. “They plan to issue a press release in conjunction with the report and we discussed the idea of doing a virtual press briefing together.” “Yes they are putting a chart into their report that is very powerful and we should widely disseminate,” Gordon wrote back. “From my perspective, the main points are: CHRT evidence shows the core of our policy, hubs, was reasonable and effective.” The problem with all of this is that Michigan health officials knew the death data in the federally funded nursing homes was comically flawed. Yet the nonprofit took that data at face value, anyhow. A few months before the release of the nursing home report, the director of CHRT emailed HHS officials looking for direction about what to feed the media. “(A reporter) is doing another article on the lack of data in Michigan nursing home cases and deaths from Covid,” wrote Udow-Phillips. “I’m hoping to better understand the data limitations were currently facing and what’s being done to address them. Thanks so much!” In the end, Michigan’s final nursing home death count is at least 25% lower than the final tallies of both the Auditor General of Michigan and the federal government. Udow-Phillips, who also worked as an intermediary between the Health Department and the Michigan press corps, declined an interview. Gordon, who left the Michigan health department in January 2021 with a $155,506.05 severance package and a non-disclosure agreement with Gov. Whitmer, went on to serve as a Biden Asst. Secretary of Health and Human Resources. According to his LinkedIn profile, Gordon is now the vice president of a nonprofit think tank leading efforts to modernize state-level administration systems. Efforts to contact him proved fruitless. His nonprofit has no centralized office and no publicly listed phone number.

And they were planning a public relations push before the report was finalized. “We had a productive call with Marianne this afternoon,” a bureaucrat wrote to then Director of the Department of Human Services Robert Gordon. “They plan to issue a press release in conjunction with the report and we discussed the idea of doing a virtual press briefing together.” “Yes they are putting a chart into their report that is very powerful and we should widely disseminate,” Gordon wrote back. “From my perspective, the main points are: CHRT evidence shows the core of our policy, hubs, was reasonable and effective.” The problem with all of this is that Michigan health officials knew the death data in the federally funded nursing homes was comically flawed. Yet the nonprofit took that data at face value, anyhow. A few months before the release of the nursing home report, the director of CHRT emailed HHS officials looking for direction about what to feed the media. “(A reporter) is doing another article on the lack of data in Michigan nursing home cases and deaths from Covid,” wrote Udow-Phillips. “I’m hoping to better understand the data limitations were currently facing and what’s being done to address them. Thanks so much!” In the end, Michigan’s final nursing home death count is at least 25% lower than the final tallies of both the Auditor General of Michigan and the federal government. Udow-Phillips, who also worked as an intermediary between the Health Department and the Michigan press corps, declined an interview. Gordon, who left the Michigan health department in January 2021 with a $155,506.05 severance package and a non-disclosure agreement with Gov. Whitmer, went on to serve as a Biden Asst. Secretary of Health and Human Resources. According to his LinkedIn profile, Gordon is now the vice president of a nonprofit think tank leading efforts to modernize state-level administration systems. Efforts to contact him proved fruitless. His nonprofit has no centralized office and no publicly listed phone number.

This group helps illegal immigrants, providing them lawyers and the executive director opposes President Trump’s deportations. • Cracker Barrel sponsored the Out & Equal LGBTQ Workplace Advocate Conference and presented a workshop on how Cracker Barrel has made progress supporting LGBTQ+ causes. This group works to push sexual topics and pronouns into the workplace. • Cracker Barrel was awarded Out & Equal’s 2018 top LGBT ERG group award and they won the Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce "Corporate Diversity" award. • CB created a special "diverse" suppliers program focused on increasing "diversity" among suppliers. SHOCKING SCENES: CHURCH LEADER UNMASKED AS TRANS IDEOLOGY ENFORCER Free Presbyterian elder revealed as national promoter of transgender ideology The Chairman of the transgender-enforcing Education Authority in Northern Ireland is a prominent elder in Ballymoney Free Presbyterian Church. Mervyn Storey was appointed to the role in 2024 by DUP Minister for Health Paul Givan. Storey is paid £50,000 + expenses for a three-day week. The Education Authority is the institution responsible for delivering Northern Ireland’s primary and secondary education services. It provides a wide range of services to schools, including instructions/guidelines on how to implement government policy. The Authority has released a 60-page document entitled ‘Guidance for Schools on Supporting Transgender Young People’. This document has been formally issued to schools and is the current advice from the Education Authority on Transgender issues in schools. The document applies to all schools under the control of the Education Authority including primary schools and pre-schools. This 60-page document includes the following: - Schools should provide transgender books and uplift ‘transgender role models’. - Teachers should ask ‘transgender students’ what name and pronoun they wish to be referred to by. - Teachers and school staff should use the student’s preferred name and pronouns including using the ‘they’ pronoun. - Teachers must not tell the child’s parents they are changing their ‘gender identity’ without the child’s consent. - Support of ‘transgender young people’ is part of the ‘inclusive ethos’ of a school. - Schools are encouraged to promote this ethos by setting up a Gender and Sexual Orientation Alliance in schools, teaching in a ‘gender-aware’ way, using LGBT resources in the classroom, and teaching the RSE curriculum. - Schools should give transgender students access to toilets that match their gender identity. - If a staff member deliberately ‘misgenders’ a student, they should be made aware that their behaviour is unacceptable. - Staff may refer children to CAMHS, which can then make a referral to the Knowing Our Identity Service, a child transgender clinic run by Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. The transgender clinic was recently awarded almost £1 million in funding by Health Minster Mike Nesbitt. All of these instructions are coming from the desk of Chairman Mervyn Storey, who last night stood in the pulpit of Ballymoney Free Presbyterian Church with Minister David Park. Last night we sought to speak with Mervyn Storey but he refused to engage. We also wished to speak to Minister David Park but after about ten minutes we were told that he had left the building. The Mervyn Storey revelations and the shocking scenes in Ballymoney last night reveal the terrible hypocrisy at the heart of much of the Free Presbyterian Church. We believe there are many genuine Christians in these churches who are not aware of what is happening behind the scenes. We pray that God will open their eyes, that they will come out from under these deceptive ministers and stand up for their sons, their daughters and for God’s truth.

We launched this program a year prior after we had been tracking the effects of online harms more broadly in twenty twenty. We were doing the research, we were meeting with experts at Stanford who have been trying to be heard on the findings that they knew were troubling and that would only worsen. And our work continued for years quietly and then in 2023 we connected with the social media victims law centre. We met with a group of American families whose lives were forever changed by the online harms that ultimately created the tragic fates of their children. And in that first gathering it was clear that for all of these families, meeting others who endured a similar experience was comforting, but more than that, was unifying. We felt the collective strength of this community coming together to heal, and feeling compelled to act in a much more public way, which is what we began to do, together we can and we will build a movement that all families and all children deserve. We know that when parents come together, when communities unite, waves are made. BBC UNVACCINATED DOCUMENTARY - With all of the news that’s coming out regarding risks from the C O V I D V A X, I thought I would bring back my greatest achievement: Being one of the first people to warn the public about the risks and harms from the V A X on mainstream media, before it all came out. Now that the truth has come out (and they have very quietly banned them for under 50’s), people aren’t calling me crazy anymore. I am getting so many apologies, people are now coming to me for advice - and the death threats have stopped. I take pride in being brave enough to speak up about this on the BBC, knowing I could lose my job, family, and friends (which I did). I take pride in being the first and only person to mention the Pf-i-zer documents on the BBC. I’m proud of myself for calling out the 9 pages of adverse reactions which no one is allowed to talk about. I take pride in the numerous messages I receive daily, saying that I was the reason people didn’t get injected, or didn’t inject their children - and thanking me for possibly saving their lives. For changing their mindset, and for making them realise that the government lied to them. That the pharmaceutical industry do not have their best interests at heart. I knew that the documentary was a BBC setup, I knew that they would try to use it to brainwash the masses even more. But I also knew that it would fail massively if I took part in it, so I did. Everyone told me not to, that they’d edit everything I said to make me look stupid. But something told me it would be okay. And I think that was God speaking to me. The constant manipulation and silencing I experienced in that house had a massive affect on me, and I struggled to get through it - but it was something I knew I had to do, and I was able to turn my sadness into strength. A massive shout out to Vicky, who was in there with me and kept me strong. She is the only reason I was able to get through that week without losing my mind completely. You will never understand this, but it was the most difficult thing I’ve ever been through, I will talk more about what they did to me in a separate video. Thank you for all your support 💗

Are you truly willing to take that risk? Garden State Equality pushes for programs in schools and GSA groups (Gender Sexuality Alliances) to push the agenda further Hackensack is having pride events all year with gsa activities and woodstown is hosting a series of events as well Our kids are very impressionable and what to please us, mental health issues are being accelerated pushing this as well, kids are utterly confused, especially my own and Countless others I talk to around the state I would like to stress the engagement aspect of sexual influence on any child under the age of 18 the definition of influence over a child stated in Title 9, specifically 6-1 The performing on any indecent, immoral or unlawful act or deed, in the presence of a child that may debauch, or endanger or degrade the morals of the child Think about this child abuse law as the government and our Schools push this gender agenda We need to be teaching these kids, not indoctrinating our students with endless gender ideology What I'm asking is simple, bring up a vote to remove this guidance. If you truly care about the children, you'll stop keeping parents in the dark about what's happening to their kids Parents, it you want this guidance removed, I encourage you to email and speak out to your board. I said those words on the Jeff Poor Show when asked about "National Pride Month" banners hanging on city light poles in downtown Mobile. People heard it. Some cheered. Some objected. But nobody asked me what I was going to do about it. Here's what I did. The City of Mobile operates a Banner Program through its Parks & Recreation Department. It allows organizations to rent designated streetlight poles: poles built, owned, and maintained by Mobile taxpayers to display banners promoting public events and observances. City officials have stated publicly that the program is viewpoint-neutral, as required by the First Amendment. A private person or organization recently used that program to hang "National Pride Month" banners on Water Street. The city approved the application and installed the banners on public infrastructure. I serve on the Visit Mobile board, the city's lodging-tax-funded tourism bureau, which also promotes these events on its publicly-supported website and I raised my concerns there as well. But I didn't stop at objecting. I acted. Using the exact same program, following the exact same process, I submitted my own banner application. It reads: National Child Awareness Month — Protect Our Children from Gender Ideology. The design has been received. I have been told it is going to be honored. I am calling on the City of Mobile to honor my duly submitted banner application. It was made in good faith, through the proper process, under the same policy that approved the Pride Month banners. There is no legal, procedural, or policy basis to treat it differently. I understand that following my banner, this policy may be ending. That's perfect. If that’s the case, let it be said that what ended gender indoctrination banners being affixed to our city property was a call to prayer, a banner asking God to protect the children of Mobile from gender ideology. A pastor submitted a prayer for our children, and the city decided it could no longer allow extremist indoctrination campaigns on public poles. That is not a loss. That is a victory for every family in this city. I will take that outcome every single day of the week. But there is a deeper issue here that goes beyond banners and policies. It is the question of who is actually at the table when decisions like this get made, not just at the City of Mobile, but at Mobile County and every board, bureau, and commission that makes decisions in the name of the people of this community. Visit Mobile and boards like it should be filled with people who look like Mobile. Not just in terms of race or background but, in terms of who this city actually is at its core. Where are the steel workers? Where are the mama bears who are fighting every single day to protect their kids from an agenda they never asked for? Where are the Little League dads coaching third base on a Saturday morning? Where is the praying grandmother, the one whose intercession and quiet encouragement have sustained this community through every hard season it has ever faced? They aren't there because more of them need to be appointed by the City of Mobile, by Mobile County, and by every appointing authority that shapes the direction of this community. The voice for the health of the nuclear family is radically underrepresented on the Visit Mobile board and on boards like it across this city and this county. It produces exactly the kind of decisions we are now debating, decisions made in the name of a community that was never actually consulted. Buttigieg: It is not too much to ask that, in this country and in this state, one job ought to be enough, which means wages and benefits that make that possible. It’s not too much to ask that you ought to be able to afford to raise a family in this country—to put your kid in child care if you want, or stay home and take care of them yourselves if you want, or do some combination of that if you want—and still have it add up at the end of the month. It is not too much to ask that the wealthiest country in the world have the best health care in the world and that it have the best-funded public schools in the world. And it is not too much to ask that the largest corporations and wealthiest people in this country pay at least as much of their income and wealth in taxes as a schoolteacher, a bus driver, or a firefighter. It is not too much to ask for a different kind of politics, where you look at your leaders in action and actually feel your blood pressure come down a little bit instead of going through the roof. That is a reasonable thing to expect of our leaders. It is not too much to ask. We can do this. Most of us already want this. So the obvious question is: Why hasn’t it happened? And that’s where we’ve got to talk about the system that we’re living with, which, by the way, as a politician, they kind of tell you not to do. Consultants say, “Look, no one’s going to get too fired up about the details of our democratic system when they’re just trying to keep their heads above water in this economy,” which I get, and to some extent I agree. But the reason that so many things are wrong with our economic picture is that so many things are wrong with our political system. And we’ve gotten so used to it, we can forget that there was a time when our political system was the pride of this nation. Wars have been fought for our system, starting with the first one—the one that launched 250 years ago with the Declaration of Independence, the one that gave this nation its being. The Founders risked their lives for a better political system. So don’t tell me it can’t stir people’s hearts. Don’t tell me that it’s not worth fighting for. Especially because until we do something to change our political system, we will continue to suffer from an economic system that lets us down: monopolies squeezing families and farmers on both ends; consumers and workers caught up in a system that can’t serve them; small businesses swamped by the big guys. Right now, what’s at stake is nothing less than the American dream. It is endangered.
