Big push to Self-reliance in Unmanned Aerial Systems Hon’able PM on his visit to Nagpur on 30 Mar 2025, made his last halt of the day at Solar Defence & Aerospace Ltd (SDAL) Nagpur. Shri Satyanarayan Nuwal, Chairman and Mr Raghav Nuwal welcomed the Hon’able PM at SDAL Helipad. From there he was escorted to Technical Area where Hon’ble PM inaugurated Loiter Munition Test Range. Spread over 1080 acres this test range has a dedicated Command & Control Centre, UAV Take off Area, Endurance and Communication Range check facility, Parachute Recovery Area, Static & Moving Target Engagement, Target Hit and CEP Measurement, Warhead Lethality Test facility, and many more. After the inauguration the PM visited the product gallery wherein SDAL showcased its products like Pinaka Rocket System, Air-bombs, Mines, Grenade, Military Explosives, ATGM, Nagastra 1 & 2 Loiter Munitions, and many more. Keeping in view the futuristic requirements of this emerging technology, SIDAL has taken the initiative to develop Nagastra series of Loiter Munitions of ranges from 15 km to more than 100 km and explosive payload carrying capability from 1 kg to 10 kg. Nagastra 3 is a Vehicle Launched Loiter Munition System of endurance 3 hours, range 100 km and can carry 8.5 kg warhead. It is being developed under Make 2 project from Arty of Indian Army. • Bhargavastra is an indigenously designed and developed Counter Drone System meant for quick interception of drones for an assured hard kill using tiny, guided missiles with swarm engagement capability. This solution offers mobile protection against drone attacks with near simultaneous engagement of multiple drones. With a long range of detection (upto 6 km) and long range of neutralization (upto 2.5 km), it ensures safety of vulnerable assets/battlefield formations. • SDAL has taken an initiative to address the global menace of land mines detection and disposal. As per some estimates there are more than 11 million buried mines world over which remain uncleared and are causing casualties or maiming of both soldiers and civilians in peace time. The Nordic Trio: A Tough Match for Russian Corvettes Russian corvettes are among the most heavily armed on the planet, but they would run into trouble against their Nordic counterparts. The Russian corvettes of the Karakurt class are the most heavily armed ones I know of. They carry Kalibr missiles with a range of 2,500 km and hypersonic Zircon missiles. They would be capable of inflicting significant damage on the entire European fleet, which lacks defenses against the Zircon. The Karakurt also features a version of the Pantsir system with a range of 40 km, tested for intercepting ballistic missiles. Yes, the Karakurt demonstrates how the concept of sea dominance can shift with even small vessels capable of projecting power over long distances. However, there is a trio that would serve as a formidable barrier to the Russian corvettes: the Skjold, Hamina, and Visby. The stealth corvettes from Finland, Sweden, and Norway would be a massive headache for the Karakurt, precisely because of their small size and stealth architecture. The Karakurt may possess Kalibr missiles with a 2,500 km range or Zircons capable of reaching nearly 1,000 km, but to locate their targets, the Karakurt relies on drones like the Altius-U, equipped with a multimode sensor suite and multiple capabilities. Facing this trio would not be an easy match for the Altius, precisely because these vessels are designed for operations in contested environments, with an emphasis on low observability. Imagine trying to locate the Skjold, with its advanced stealth design featuring radar-absorbent materials, angular shapes, and a drastically reduced RCS, weighing only 270 tons? On the Altius's radar, it might appear as a small fishing boat under good conditions. And what about the Hamina? Built with aluminum and a composite superstructure (Kevlar and absorbent materials), it reduces radar, thermal, magnetic, and acoustic signatures. With a very low RCS, it would blend into maritime clutter (waves and small objects), operating in silent mode with electronic jamming. And the Visby? This is the stealthiest of all. Made from carbon fiber composites, with angular shapes, retractable/embedded weapons, and reductions in all signatures (RCS up to 99% lower, IR, acoustic, magnetic, hydrodynamic wake), plus advanced jamming and optimized operations to deny aerial sensors. All of them leverage integration with archipelagos for natural camouflage. What could the Altius-U do? Its active radar would need to operate in high-resolution modes, with drastically reduced range (possibly just a few dozen km); EO/IR for optical/thermal identification at extreme close range; SIGINT/ELINT to capture any residual emissions. This would require multiple drones operating in a coordinated manner with much greater exposure, putting the drones at risk from anti-air defenses, plus a bit of luck. By this point, larger vessels might have already been turned into fish habitats by the Zircons and Kalibrs, but this trio would still be standing. The resilience of this trio would force the Karakurt to risk approaching and entering the range of the Nordic corvettes, which are well armed with modern missiles. To make it even harder, all three have ASW capabilities, which would require attention from submarines. The truth is that the Karakurt's target acquisition would only face difficulties in Nordic waters or regions within range of coastal batteries, putting the corvettes themselves at risk. But with greater range and lower visibility, the Russian corvettes would terrorize larger vessels. The Karakurt are capable of providing area denial over thousands of kilometers, demonstrating a new concept in naval area denial. Specifically at this case, The Altius-U would prioritize radar for wide-area scanning, followed by EO/IR and SIGINT for refinement, but the stealth of these corvettes reduces effective ranges and increases failure risks.

Mystery 'Solved'? Radiation Spikes in NY & NJ Metro Detected Amid Drone Sightings There have been significant radiation spikes detected in the New York and New Jersey Metro areas amid a spate of ‘mysterious’ drone sightings. One theory that has been floated by a subject matter expert named John Ferguson, the CEO of a military drone company named Saxon Aerospace, is that these drones are flying at night because they are searching for gas leaks or radioactive material. Drones typically don't fly at night unless they are equipped with special sensors; these may include infrared or thermal imaging, as well as gas and radioactivity sensing technology. Two locations in the NY/NJ metro area have been flagged as condition "red," with CPM (counts per minute) levels exceeding the safety threshold of 200 CPM over the past week, according to the Geiger Counter World Map. One 1000 CPM reading was detected at Hamilton Park in Weehawken, New Jersey, across the Lincoln Tunnel going into New York City, while the other was detected near Fort Hamilton, which is located near the Verrazano Narrows bridge. These readings are markedly higher than typical background radiation levels, raising concerns about localized environmental or industrial factors that may be contributing to these spikes. The CPM metric measures the number of radioactive particles detected in a given area per minute, using Geiger counters. This does not directly quantify the strength of the radiation but provides an indication of its presence. For reference, a typical background radiation level is around 30–50 CPM, while readings above 100 CPM may indicate an anomaly requiring attention. Prolonged exposure to higher levels of radiation, such as those recorded in Weehawken and Fort Hamilton, can pose health risks depending on duration and proximity. Readings of over 1,000 CPM (counts per minute) on a Geiger counter are relatively rare under normal circumstances. Authorities are urged to investigate the source of these elevated readings and assess potential risks to the population in these areas. However, there is another factor that one should consider: An increased in reported or perceived “drone activity” that may correspond to increased military presence or emergency response and accompanying spikes in radiation levels. There are military drones and unmanned flight systems that use radioactive fuel sources, although such designs are typically considered to be “experimental” due to safety, regulatory, and operational constraints. Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators or RTGs use radioactive isotopes, such as plutonium-238, to generate electricity through thermoelectric conversion. These have been more commonly used in space missions (e.g., NASA's Voyager probes) but have been considered for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in specific scenarios where long endurance and reliability are critical. RTGs typically use isotopes like plutonium-238, which primarily emit alpha particles. Alpha radiation cannot travel far and is usually blocked by the outer casing of the RTG. It is unlikely to directly contribute to a 1,000+ CPM spike unless the RTG casing is compromised, exposing the radioactive material. Some radioactive decay chains produce beta particles and gamma rays, which can penetrate the RTG casing to some extent. Gamma radiation, in particular, can travel significant distances and could lead to elevated Geiger counter readings. However, radiation escaping from a well-functioning RTG is minimal and typically not detectable at a significant distance. However, if the RTG casing is damaged or degraded, radioactive material could leak, leading to higher-than-normal CPM readings. More plausible or at least common forms of radiation capable of causing Geiger counter spikes would be leakage from medical isotopes (e.g., cesium-137 or cobalt-60), industrial equipment accidents, or environmental contamination. However, increased military activity into the areas may introduce variables such as top secret equipment that may be associated with radioactivity spikes. Agencies like DARPA have explored advanced power systems for drones, including nuclear-based options, but details are often classified. DARPA’s SIGMA program also equips the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey with an advanced radiation detection system, enhancing counterterrorism efforts and radiological threat monitoring across the region's critical infrastructure. SIGMA, operational since late 2019, uses networked sensors—stationary, vehicle-mounted, and wearable—to provide real-time radiation detection and alert capabilities. The mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey took an unexpected turn with an ABC 7 News crew capturing video footage of a strange, white orb floating in the Mendham Township sky. The reporter described the phenomenon as unidentifiable and urged residents to submit similar videos for expert analysis. The unexplained activity has also included sightings over military bases, intensifying demands for clarity from public officials as speculation swirls about the drones' origins, including theories that they may have been sent by foreign adversaries. While National Security Council spokesman John Kirby dismissed over 3,000 reports as mistaken observations of helicopters or airplanes, his statements contradict confirmations from military officials at New Jersey's Picatinny Arsenal and Naval Weapons Station Earle of unauthorized drone breaches. These sightings add to growing public concern over an apparent "drone invasion" across New Jersey and neighboring states. The FBI and DHS said in a joint statement on Thursday that there was "no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus." On Sunday, Hochul announced federal officials are deploying a high-tech drone detection system to New York State. The advanced system will support state and local law enforcement in investigating the drones, which have been flickering across the night skies over the past month, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Sunday. Despite the federal support, Hochul urged Congress to provide greater resources. The Aerospace CEO's explanation that the 'mystery' drones may be searching for gas leaks or radioactivity fits with both the government secrecy surrounding the reported phenomena, as well as the increased radioactivity detected in the region.

A subscale High-Altitude Platform (HAP) UAV, developed by CSIR-NAL, recently achieved back-to-back test flights at 24,000 ft AMSL, demonstrating notable robustness and reliability. The test missions were conducted from the DRDO-run ATR, which falls under the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE). The ATR has emerged as a critical testbed for India’s UAV ecosystem, involving both government agencies and private industry. NAL’s HAP -- now in its fourth year -- has attracted particular attention from the Indian Air Force #IAF. Touted as a loitering munition with stealth capabilities, the platform aims to scale 40,000 ft shortly, with an eventual goal of 70,000 ft. Its applications span both military and civilian domains, with swarming capability being a key focus for the IAF. Yet, despite this momentum, UAV developers report consistent setbacks due to AAI’s clearance protocols. Every trial requires prior approval from AAI -- a process they describe as time-consuming and operationally disruptive. “ATR lies beneath a busy civil aviation corridor -- the Bengaluru–Chennai–Bengaluru sector. Alongside DRDO and NAL, ISRO also uses the range for testing its Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV),” said an official familiar with the matter. ATR’s current 2-km-plus runway is undergoing planned expansion, and several support facilities -- including a wind tunnel for UAV testing -- are expected to become functional within the next two years. However, developers are calling for urgent reform in test protocols, especially after the boost in indigenous UAV activity following Operation Sindoor. “ATR should be designated as a permanent exclusion zone for civil air traffic. Its surrounding airspace must be reserved solely for defence testing. The current SOPs involving repeated NOTAMs are delaying critical trials. AAI should have no jurisdiction over strategic military ranges,” the official asserted. Repeated attempts to contact Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu on his mobile phone were unsuccessful. A text message sent to one of his Personal Assistants following a brief exchange also went unanswered. AAI Executive Director (CNS & Planning) Suneel Dutt responded to a call but clarified that he is not the concerned authority on the issue. NATO's defense planning is not keeping up with the Russian threat. The problem is that NATO is mainly building forces for a possible future war, while Russia is already waging one in the present. This is where the Alliance's weak points show up: slow decision-making, blurred authorities, an expensive interception model, lengthy procurement processes, and slow responses to the adversary's new tactics. Russian violations of NATO airspace have already become a regular tool of pressure and a way to test the Alliance's response system. On 10 September 2025, Poland recorded 19 entries by Russian drones into its airspace and invoked Article 4, after which NATO launched Eastern Sentry; on 19 September, three Russian MiG-31s remained in Estonian airspace for more than ten minutes. In 2026, incidents continued in Poland, Germany, Romania and the Baltics. NATO is still responding with one-off actions to a systemic and regular provocation. It needs to shift to a permanent regime: pre-agreed rules of engagement, a joint command chain, a common air picture, and the authority to rapidly destroy military unmanned aerial vehicles without a separate political decision. The system must also distinguish real threats from false signals much better and rely on cheap interception means - electronic warfare, guns, SHORAD and interceptor drones costing around $15,000, and in the longer term $2-5,000 - while reserving expensive Patriot, SAMP/T and fighter aircraft for more complex targets. Simply intercepting drones is not enough. Russia must be punished - every confirmed deliberate incident should automatically trigger a pre-agreed package of consequences: additional sanctions, new restrictions on the shadow fleet, reinforcement of air defenses on the eastern flank, a greater military presence, or extra assistance to Ukraine. If NATO remains only in interception mode, Russia will not stop. Russia deliberately operates precisely in this grey-zone interval. On 14 September 2026, a Russian frigate fired two flares in the direction of a Danish military helicopter in international waters. Denmark called the behavior dangerous and deliberate, but the incident did not create a political crisis of Article 5 level. For Moscow, such operations are cheap and useful: they reveal reaction times, rules of engagement, command behavior and the threshold beyond which allies are prepared to move from protest to a forceful response. Even a drone that destroyed nothing can successfully accomplish a military task. It can force the activation of a radar, the scrambling of fighters, the disclosure of an air-defense position, the closure of an airport, the testing of a command algorithm, or reveal exactly who has the authority to authorize engagement. In July 2026, the IISS assessed it as highly likely that Russia had conducted a coordinated campaign of 144 UAV incidents across roughly a dozen European countries between August 2024 and February 2026. NATO still does not dare to treat such actions as a single campaign and breaks them down into separate legal and administrative cases. Russia, by contrast, plans all of this centrally as one operation. NATO's legal framework is also being rebuilt only after the threat has become permanent. Romania only in 2025 adopted Law No. 73/2025, which explicitly allows the destruction of unmanned aerial vehicles that illegally use its airspace. In July 2026, Baltic Air Policing had to be converted into Baltic Air Defence, expanding the mission from identification and escort to threat neutralization. This is a reaction, not anticipatory planning. The economics of interception remains one of the weakest points of European defense. A cheap Russian Geran or Gerbera drone can force the scramble of a fighter or the use of a missile that costs many times more than the target itself. This can be accepted and tolerable with isolated incidents. With dozens and hundreds of targets, such a model exhausts stocks faster than the adversary expends its own resources. That is why allies have started purchasing systems such as Merops with interceptors at roughly $15,000 each. Ukrainian experience already shows that even this price can be too high for a mass war, so the market is moving towards interceptors at $2–5,000. European air defense is still insufficiently adapted to a mass cheap aerial threat. For real resilience, a dense lower tier of cheap sensors, passive detection, electronic warfare, guns, interceptor drones and SHORAD is needed. Expensive medium- and long-range systems must be preserved for more complex targets - cruise and ballistic missiles, aircraft and high-speed strike systems. The summit in Ankara in 2026 showed that NATO has finally recognized this problem. Allies announced more than $40 billion in investments in counter-UAS over five years and a plan to roughly quintuple the number of trained drone operators by the end of 2027. These are large figures, but they also illustrate the scale of the lag. Speed remains the most serious structural gap. The NATO Defense Planning Process operates on four-year cycles, and short-term planning formally covers a period of up to six years. After capability targets are set, states still have to insert the money into budgets, conduct procurements, conclude contracts and wait for production. Russian drones, like Russian tactics, change within a few weeks. Drones are constantly being improved. In 2026, Russia increased the use of jet-powered strike drones from roughly 450 in June to almost 2,850 in August. This is a tempo that the classic European procurement system cannot match. European states are still trying to procure some rapidly evolving technologies through procedures created for large long-term programs. For a tank, a frigate or a fighter, lengthy certification is inevitable. For an FPV, an electronic-warfare system, software, an AI module, a cheap sensor or an interceptor drone, a multi-year cycle means the army may receive a system that is already obsolete. Ukraine has had to grant hundreds of military units the right to procure drones, EW, counter-UAS and communications equipment directly, shortening some procedures to months and weeks. NATO and European states need to do something similar. Despite the fact that modern war is a drone war, tanks have not lost their significance, and Russian military policy confirms this. According to internal documents of Uralvagonzavod analyzed by ISW, the enterprise plans to increase T-90 production by approximately 80% by 2028 relative to 2024. Russia learns quickly and simultaneously strengthens the protection of armored vehicles against FPVs, develops electronic warfare, drones, artillery and long-range strikes. It adapts old systems, embedding them into a battlefield denser with sensors, drones and electronic warfare. That is why the number of tanks, aircraft or ships is no longer a good enough indicator of real combat capability. A tank without drone reconnaissance, electronic warfare, counter-UAS, engineering support, protected communications, artillery and a repair system quickly becomes an easy target. A Patriot without a cheap lower air-defense tier risks expending expensive missiles on secondary targets. Military capability increasingly depends on whether the entire system works, not on the quantity of individual platforms. At sea, the same deficit has already appeared around undersea infrastructure and the shadow fleet. In 2025, NATO Task Force X-Baltic tested more than 70 aerial, surface and underwater unmanned systems. In 2026, eight allies decided to accelerate their procurement. The reason is that there are not enough ships to continuously control thousands of kilometers of cables, pipelines, ports and sea routes. What is needed is constant cheap surveillance, automatic anomaly detection and rapid response. The shadow fleet creates an even more serious problem for NATO, because Russia uses civilian infrastructure for military purposes. The IISS considers it probable that some Russia-linked commercial vessels are used as platforms for launching, recovering or supporting drones. Such vessels often sail under foreign flags, have opaque ownership and formally do not belong to the Russian military. NATO's industrial problem is even more serious than the technological one. In a long war, what matters is not how many systems are in stock on day one, but how many can be produced, repaired and replaced every month. Russia is converting its economy to a model of sustained military production and is simultaneously creating mass production of cheap systems. The official Russian target envisages approximately 130,000 large UAVs per year by 2030. Europe remains significantly stronger economically, but this advantage guarantees nothing if it is not translated into serial production of weapons, ammunition, sensors, interceptors and spare parts. The next two to three years therefore remain a dangerous transitional period. The European roadmap envisages initial capability of the European Drone Defence Initiative and Eastern Flank Watch by the end of 2026, full capability of EDDI by the end of 2027, and full functionality of Eastern Flank Watch only by the end of 2028. Russia is already conducting drone operations, jamming navigation, intensifying its military presence at sea and using civilian and semi-civilian channels for pressure. Due to the video confirmation of drones impacting within Dubai overnight, these reports are now openly misleading, as the number of successful Iranian strikes remains unreported. -HomeFront- Michigan: Yesterday afternoon a vehicle ramming and small arms attack was reported at Temple Israel, one of the largest synagogues in Michigan. The attack began as a vehicle ramming attack targeting the main entrance to the facility. After the suspect breached the entrance, he exited the vehicle and was engaged by security personnel on site, who neutralized the attacker. Initial reports claim that the suspect also had explosives inside his vehicle, however authorities have not confirmed this yet as the vehicle caught fire during the incident and burned down a substantial portion of the structure, including the suspect. No one but the attacker was killed during the attack. Analyst Comment: The suspect in this case has been identified as Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a naturalized US Citizen originally from Lebanon. Some sources claim that he conducted the attack due to to his family being killed in an Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp in Beirut yesterday, however these claims cannot be independently verified at this time. Either way, the suspect attacked the 12,000-member synagogue on a Thursday afternoon when almost no one was at the facility, which is an indicator that the terrorist did not have much time to plan the attack. More information is expected later on, as forensic analysis of the remains and vehicle debris is conducted. Virginia: Yesterday a mass shooting was reported at Old Dominion University after a terrorist entered a classroom and began targeting students. Local authorities state that a lone gunman entered an ROTC classroom at ODU shortly before 11:00am yesterday morning, first shooting the instructor, who has been identified as LTC Brandon Shah. Immediately after the first shots were fired, the cadets in the classroom mounted a counterattack, using violence of action to subdue the attacker. At some point during the attack one cadet produced a pocket knife which was subsequently utilized in stabbing the attacker to death. The assailant was found dead by police at the scene after being stabbed 22x times. Analyst Comment: The suspect in this case has been identified as Mohamad Bailor Jalloh, a naturalized US citizen from Sierra Leone and former National Guard soldier who had previously been convicted of attempting to carry out a terrorist attack. A few days ago this escalated when protesters took the accelerationist approach, and blocked the entrance to Whitegate Refinery in Cork Harbor to make the price of fuel go even higher and thus make the issue everyone's problem. As a secondary result of blocking the entry/exit of vehicles from Ireland's only refinery, roughly 40% of Ireland's gasoline supply was cut off in an instant, and prices not only skyrocketed, but now the sheer supply itself is also running out. The tertiary effect of this effort has spiraled into a larger movement that is no longer solely about fuel costs, but also about general corruption and anti-government sentiments. This has in turn resulted in other protesters taking to the roadways around the country to stop traffic, and effectively compound all of the previous demonstration tactics, which has now resulted in the Army being called up to clear roadways and restore some sort of order. -HomeFront- North Carolina: Yesterday the FBI arrested one former DoD civilian employee on charges of leaking classified information to a journalist. Courtney Williams (a former employee of U.S. Special Operations Command) was arrested after allegedly conveying classified material to Seth Harp for his book about alleged drug trafficking and criminal enterprises within JSOC. Williams appeared as a named source for some of the material in the piece, which allegedly included classified material. Analyst Comments: Contradicting media reports on the topic, the press release for this arrest confirms that this has nothing to do with the current conflict in Iran. Many media sources are claiming that this individual was the person who leaked details of the F-15 which was shot down over Iran a few days ago, however this is blatantly false. The DoJ states that the leaks of classified information occurred between 2022 and 2025, and contained information that Williams had access to when she worked for a clandestine military unit between 2010 and 2016. The DoJ has not made any comment regarding any arrest made specifically in conjunction with the current war in Iran. -----END TEARLINE----- Analyst Comments: At the moment, Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz. There is no US Navy presence to provide Freedom of Navigation, and the Iranians have threatened to destroy any vessel that attempts to pass without their permission. The potential confirmation of sea mines being laid in the Strait adds another complicating factor as if the Iranian's claims are true, someone is going to have to demine this region at some point. Doctrinally speaking, the chief concern with minefields is that even if no mines are laid, the accusation alone is enough to prevent anyone from entering the area until clearance operations have been conducted. Any vessel can be a minesweeper exactly one time, but most insurance companies are unlikely to support such endeavors for the vessels that they underwrite policies for. Conveniently, the safe route suggested by the IRGCN (to avoid the sea mines they have laid) takes commercial vessels through their waters via the Larak Island tollbooth route. So far, only a handful of vessels have transited the Strait, all of which used the Larak Island route and passed with Iranian permission. Government mind control is the stuff of conspiracy theories. Many homeless people suffering from schizophrenia or meth-induced psychosis claim to be victims of it. And it is common to find people online who say they are victims of mind control, directed energy weapons, and gang-stalking by government agents. These delusions appear to have arisen after evidence emerged in the 1970s that the CIA was engaged in mind-control efforts, the subject of a congressional hearing last week. The CIA’s MKUltra program, for example, tested LSD on prisoners and hospital patients without their consent. After World War II, the CIA may have continued Nazi experiments into mind control, even using former Nazi doctors and operating a black site in Germany where some victims died, testified a journalist-turned-historian. “Kurt Blome, who was the chief of biological weapons development for the Nazi government, came to work for the CIA,” noted former New York Times reporter Stephen Kinzer, who authored Poisoner in Chief about the head of MKUltra. “So did Walter Schreiber, who was the surgeon general of the Nazi army.” The hearing that Rep. Anna Paulina Luna convened on June 30 did not receive much media attention, likely because some of it covered what is viewed in Washington, D.C., as old news. The CIA released MKUltra financial files in 1977. The two witnesses, Kinzer and Tom O’Neill, both published their books in 2019. The two testified that little new information had come to light since then. But the hearing was significant in part because O’Neill raised the possibility that the CIA’s mind control research may never have ended. “Did it continue?” O’Neill said. “I don’t know. I can’t imagine that it didn’t, though, because the technology — that they worked to establish over 20, 25 years and spent more money on than any operation the CIA ever conducted — was successful. I imagine it’s being used.” Jolly West, a doctor and MKUltra contractor, reported in 1956 that, through the use of LSD and other drugs, he could “speed the induction of the hypnotic state and deepen the trance,” after which he could replace “true memories” with “false ones” in people’s minds without them knowing it. Two years earlier, a 34-year-old Air Force sergeant with no history of violent or criminal behavior murdered a three-year-old girl in an apparent trance state. West was assigned to be the man’s psychiatric expert. It turned out that the sergeant had been, ostensibly, undergoing an experimental treatment for his migraine headaches at the base. O’Neill points to connections between the West and the Manson Family murders without drawing definitive conclusions. In his book, Chaos, O’Neill reveals that West visited the jail cell of Jack Ruby, who killed Lee Harvey Oswald, the alleged assassin of President John F. Kennedy, just hours before Ruby had a psychotic break. The CIA destroyed MKUltra evidence, lied to Congress about it, and fabricated false reports, including the one by West. But there are many MKUltra files, photos, and films still out there, said the witnesses, sitting in the archives and attics of the 80 scientific, medical, and university institutions and at least 185 non-government researchers. In fact, a large new body of documents, photographs, and films about apparent mind control and psychic warfare will soon come to light. The son of Andrija Puharich — an American physician, scientist, and inventor who used teenagers in his psychic experiments — gave documentary filmmaker Greg Mallozzi access to his father’s archive, which includes numerous recordings. “I worked as a consultant to the CIA,” Puharich says in one of them. “My boss was the chief medical director who’s in charge of all the dirty tricks stuff when it came to drugs and hypnosis and all the mind manipulation stuff.” The new documentary is called “Mind Traveler” and will be released this fall....
