I use organic flour. I fed my sourdough starter some whole wheat non-organic flour once….it died. Only buy organic flour or import from somewhere like Italy

If it’s not the whole cause, it’s a huge contributor. They dessicate oats before harvest as well. Only organic oats are worth eating. I buy my own organic wheat berries, mill my own flour and make my own bread. Fed up with the food toxins.

Glyphosate is also an endocrine disruptor. Boys who went through puberty 2006 or later had their hormones permanently impacted and will always look 14 forever. Once you notice this you can never un-notice it.

Most wheat in the US is still not sprayed with glyphosate. Our growing season is long enough in most areas for natural drying. Using glyphosate as a desiccant, though, started in the 1980's. Once again the brain worm knows not what he talks about.

To start with, the timeline is off. Glyphosate wasn’t suddenly introduced as a pre-harvest desiccant in 2006; it had already been used in various agricultural systems for decades, with adoption varying by crop, region, and weather conditions. There was no single moment when farmers worldwide began spraying wheat in this way. By contrast, the increase in diagnosed Celiac disease tracks much more closely with the expansion of modern diagnostic tools in the 1990s and early 2000s. Blood tests such as tissue transglutaminase (tTG) and endomysial antibody (EMA) assays made it far easier to identify cases that previously would have gone undiagnosed. Before those tools were widely used, celiac disease was often missed or only recognized in its most severe forms, so a substantial portion of the apparent “explosion” reflects improved detection rather than a sudden surge in new disease. Even setting the timeline aside, the exposure argument is weak. Only a small fraction of wheat acreage is actually treated with glyphosate as a pre-harvest desiccant—generally estimated at 3% or less in the United States, and typically limited to specific conditions like uneven maturity or weed pressure. Most wheat is never treated this way at all. That alone makes it difficult to argue that such a limited practice could drive a widespread population-level increase in an autoimmune disease affecting people globally. On top of that, residue levels on harvested grain are tightly regulated and usually very low when products are used according to labeled pre-harvest intervals. Typical dietary exposures are far below levels associated with toxic effects. The biology of celiac disease also doesn’t fit the hypothesis. Celiac disease is a highly specific autoimmune condition that requires genetic susceptibility—most commonly HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ8—and involves an immune reaction to particular gluten peptides that leads to damage of the small intestinal lining. For glyphosate to be the cause, it would need to alter immune tolerance in a way that specifically targets gluten and produces the characteristic villous atrophy seen in patients. There is no convincing evidence in humans that glyphosate, especially at dietary exposure levels, can trigger that kind of targeted autoimmune response. Looking at global patterns further weakens the claim. If glyphosate use on wheat were a major driver of celiac disease, you would expect to see a clear relationship between regions with higher use and higher disease rates. Instead, the data are inconsistent. Some populations with relatively low glyphosate exposure still show increasing rates of celiac disease, while others with higher exposure do not show a corresponding rise. That lack of a consistent correlation suggests that glyphosate is not a primary driver. Meanwhile, there are more plausible explanations that are supported by research. These include changes in the gut microbiome, early-life exposures such as antibiotics or delivery method, infant feeding practices, and broader shifts in immune system development often described as part of the “hygiene hypothesis.” None of these factors alone explains everything, but together they provide a more scientifically grounded explanation than a single chemical exposure. Finally, major scientific and regulatory reviews have not found evidence linking glyphosate exposure to celiac disease. Organizations that evaluate toxicology and epidemiology have not concluded that glyphosate causes autoimmune conditions at real-world exposure levels. While research continues on many aspects of environmental health, the specific claim tying glyphosate desiccation of wheat to the rise in celiac disease lacks credible support.

You can’t draw a straight line like this. Celiac disease increased with improved diagnostics and broader screening, not a single farming practice. No solid evidence links glyphosate use to celiac disease. The U.S. Air Force serum study (1948–54 vs today) shows celiac disease rose ~4–5× over decades—not suddenly in 2006. This is a long-term trend, not a glyphosate-driven spike.

Celiac has zero to do with glyphosate for those of us with Celiac eat MANY other crops sprayed with it. It is a genetic SNP that causes serious inflammation and autoimmune disease if trace amounts of the gluten protein is introduced into the body.

They sprayed it on the sugar cane in South Louisiana. Usually the cane turns brown after the first cold snap. This year it suddenly turned brown and I noticed it had been sprayed by crop dusters. None of our food is safe.

I was diagnosed in 2006. I don’t think it was glyphosate. I think I had it for years and just didn’t know. Plus, Dr. Fasano came to the US from Italy in 1996 to study why Americans weren’t being diagnosed and he developed the blood test, as well. Idk, but it sucks!
