That man is a danger to democracy, and here is why. Science isn’t about “blindly trusting” experts, (that's what religion is for). Science is tools and methods of testing, reviewing, replicating, and evidence. Experts thru science provides us with tested and proved knowledge, not opinions. This lets us make policy decisions rest on factual information rather than rumours or pure ideology. Without science expertise, decisions risk being made on misinformation, superstition, or populist rhetoric, for example, vaccination policy, when based on science, society reduces disease. If based on misinformation, risk for outbreaks of disease increases. Dismissing science and expertise entirely can lead to “totalitarianism” since totalitarianism is depending on misinformation, superstition, and populist rhetoric. When people stop trusting independent science experts, they often trust only strongmen or political elites instead. Wannabe dictators and a proponents of a totalitarian state wants a full control of what scientific information is shared and what's not, often actively supressing factual information that doesn't align with their narrative, to reach the people. Knowledge is power and healthy democracies need that power thru pluralism of voices, including experts, to prevent totalitarianism.
