“A Star Is Bored” is a 1956 Warner Bros. Looney Tunes cartoon, directed by Friz Freleng. The short was released on September 15, 1956, and stars Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. The cartoon expands upon the rivalry depicted between Bugs and Daffy, in such films as Chuck Jones' 1951 short “Rabbit Fire”, this time placing the action in a show-biz setting. Rare footage of Walt Disney voicing Mickey Mouse in 1940. November 1st 1940, Walt Disney released the short film "Mr. Mouse Takes A Trip". While it was nothing special at the time, it has since grown some historical significance, as Walt Disney himself was filmed recording his lines as Mickey Mouse for it, making it one of the only times he was shown doing his voice on camera. Alongside him is actor Billy Bletcher the voice of Pete.

John Williams has spent a lifetime making great film scores but I think the best work of his career is Schindler’s List. I’m a violinist of 25 years. Itzhak Perlman is one of my heroes. Listening to Perlman perform this violin solo at a young age is something that drew me even closer to 1) the violin & 2) Cinema. This is just one of the most memorable scores in film history.

On this day in 1930, Warner Bros. released the very first Looney Tunes cartoon Sinkin' in the Bathtub. Created by Hugh Harman & Rudolf Ising, this introduced audiences to Bosko, the first Looney Tunes star. While the character is deliberately ignored today by WB, he represent the simple beginnings of what would evolve into one of animation's most celebrated franchises. This cartoon (in 16mm format) was released as a bonus feature on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol3. Here, I've combined a 35mm scan with footage from another 16mm print to fix numerous splices in the original film. The 35mm element was in particularly rough shape, but I've been able to present this historic piece of animation history in better condition than is commonly available elsewhere.

Akira Kurosawa met Richard Gere for the first time at a New York Party which was for "Ran" (1985). After that, they ran into each other on several other occasions. When Kurosawa met Gere during a party celebrating Kurosawa's Oscar & his birthday, Kurosawa asked Gere if he was interested in appearing in "Rhapsody in August" (1991). Gere was overjoyed by the proposal and agreed instantly. In their conversations, Kurosawa was impressed with Gere's knowledge of the Sutras & his interest in Asia and Lamaism. He thought his knowledge was better than some of the Japanese. At that time, Richard Gere was at the peak of his popularity, just coming out of the huge success of "Pretty Woman" (1990). He was earning several million dollars per movie. Mike Inoue, the Co-producer of "Rhapsody in August" (1991) told Gere that they couldn't afford to pay that kind of money. Right away, Gere said, "I will work free for Kurosawa". Inoue didn't want to take advantage of Gere's kindness. So, he offered him a minor sum of money & agreed to pay the expenses for the friends he wanted to bring with him to Japan. Cindy Crawford was one of the friends he brought to Japan. Gere later said of his experience in Japan with Kurosawa, "'Rhapsody in August' (1991) turned out to be a short, wonderful experience working with one of the greatest masters of our time" ("The Emperor and the Wolf", Stuart Galbraith IV, 2002)

This weekend several parties are gearing up to bid on Warner Brothers Discovery in a heated auction. This comes a full quarter century since I advised Aol in their $183 billion merger with Time Warner in the largest deal in history in 2000, a deal way ahead of its time and massively financially lopsided (in my client’s favor). Who will win the bidding for Warner Bros. – Comcast, Netflix, Skydance Paramount or a dark horse candidate? My bet is on Paramount because Comcast’s Brian Roberts is economically rational and Netflix doesn’t need it. Plus, Skydance’s David Ellison has both his dad’s cash and connections (Saudi money?) and the right political connections (Trump) to get the deal greenlit. Whoever wins the auction, one thing’s certain: the real winner is David Zaslav who bet big on a high-risk leveraged play when he convinced AT&T to merge Warner Bros. with Discovery in deal at one point had $48 billion of debt – a deal that panned out after all at a time when legacy media is in decline. One ordinary afternoon in the backyard, a dog named Andy was happily running around when he suddenly appeared with something in his mouth. Looking more closely, his owner was startled to see two tiny little legs sticking out. It was a baby rabbit. 🐰 “Bad boy, drop it!” the owner cried out in panic. Andy simply looked at his owner with innocent eyes, as if asking, “I just want to keep it.” 🥺 The owner tried everything and finally had to resort to the “trade” trick. Andy hesitated for a moment before finally letting the little rabbit go. The baby bunny was soaked in drool, but thankfully still healthy and just a little dazed. The owner gently placed it back near its nest. A short while later, the little rabbit crawled back into its hiding place, safe and sound. Andy sat nearby, wagging his tail as if to say, “I wasn’t trying to hurt it.” Some moments can make your heart skip a beat and bring a smile to your face at the same time. And this was certainly one of them — a moment when a dog’s natural instincts unexpectedly met with gentleness 💖

Back in 2020, #HarryandMeghan released a video of #MeghanMarkle reading a book called “Duck Rabbit” (that Oprah gave him-they HAD to make sure that was clear) to Archie for his first birthday. First-she can’t keep her focus on Archie. She has to read to the camera. Then, Archie is very much over it, wants no part of it, but Markle is GOING to read to him and ignores his wanting to get down. But the best part is at the end when Archie is looking at Harry saying “dadada” but Markle cannot accept that he’s calling out for Harry so she says “Duck Rabbit” like THATS what Archie is trying to say. Through his first 10 games McDowell is averaging 29/5/2 on 51/42/94 splits and is leading D2 in total scoring as just a sophomore. McDowell is one of the most efficient scorers in all of D2 with his ability to finish at the rim at a high level and shoot from three at a high level. McDowell is an elite shooter who’s shooting 42% on 9 attempts a game and he’s doing that either off the dribble, from a movement three or off the catch. He’s also a skilled driver and a cutter at the rim and has one of the highest rim pressure rates, while also drawing free throws at an elite level.
