Ridge Racer 7 had striking visuals like this on PS3 at launch and at a full 1080p and 60 FPS. Namco was on full cylinders to deliver the best with what they had. Still impressive today

It really helps Namco was mainly using rendering techniques from the PS2 era. Lots of baked shadows, light maps, and such. So they weren't sacrificing performance for visuals that ironically aged worse than this did. I wish more devs from the era took the same approach.

I just realised how clear & clean the roads are... No wonder old games were more enjoyable. Every new game I crash into everything 😅

Namco focusing on smooth/locked 60fps first and foremost... Too many devs on PS3 went for visual fidelity recently first and the expense of fluidity. The result? 20-30 wildly inconsistent, juddery and stuttering.

Still play this regularly, it never gets old.

The last “proper” Ridge Racer and that too was 18 years ago. Synonymous was a Ridge Racer title with a PlayStation console launch, but nothing since this zinger that launched with the PS3. Come on @PlayStation and @Konami give us a full legacy RR remake with 4K visuals 120FPS🙏🏼

This looks great! I love RRT4 and the PSP version. How did this handle?

PS3 was also a beast of a system

Ye olde "The road is transparent with a mirror world below it" road reflection trick sure looks great here!

It’s actually tragic they cancelled that new one for Switch, we really deserve a new one at this point

I love this game. Psp ridge racers ( ridge racer 2 ) is my favorite. And nostalgic wise ridge racer type 4 has my heart but 7 was pretty good no doubt.
