Ridley Scott directed this iconic commercial for Apple just two years after making Blade Runner. I think the combination of Blade Runner + this commercial elevated Ridley to new heights in the mid ‘80s. Scott is now on the precipice of receiving an honorary Oscar- long overdue.

Ridley Scott did not win an Oscar for Gladiator. I know it was a competitive field back in 2001, but as time passes, it’s hard to accept that Scott won zero Academy Awards despite the film’s five wins overall. Part of the relevance of this comes from the fact that this year, Scott is receiving an honorary Oscar from the The Academy. I’m happy Ridley’s finally getting his credit but come one…Scott should own a statue just for this film alone.

Tim Curry, Ridley Scott & Tom Cruise united for what I believe is one of the most overlooked film of the ‘80s: Legend. This movie was so far ahead of its time, it hurts. Curry is unbelievable as the Lord of Darkness & the fact we are losing Curry in the middle of Ridley Scott Week only makes me think about this film more. Studio interference & multiple versions of this film got in the way of its initial release. But now? Time to start giving this film the credit it deserves.

He looked back at filming Rutger Hauer’s iconic rainy monologue in Blade Runner 🎬 That speech completely changed the tone of the movie. Rutger Hauer’s character went from a psychopathic monster to a deeply sympathetic figure in just a few minutes. Absolute masterpiece. Given that it’s Ridley Scott Week, I think now is as good of a time as any to revisit The Last Duel. Written by Nicole Holofcener, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon, I think this is one of Scott’s better films in the last 15 years largely because the writing is so strong. That’s without mentioning that the entire cast is also excellent. I really, really enjoy Damon’s performance here. This film is proof that even in his 80s, Ridley still has his fastball.
