🚨 Four Suspects Arrested Following Retail Theft, Pursuit, and Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant 🚨 On June 17, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers assigned to a Criminal Investigations Division (CID) retail theft operation attempted to stop suspects who had committed thefts at multiple retail stores in North Austin. Rather than stop, the suspects fled, leading troopers on a dangerous pursuit. During the pursuit, occupants of the suspect vehicle fired multiple rounds at pursuing troopers while traveling at high speeds, including driving the wrong way on SH 45 Toll. Despite the extreme danger posed by the suspects’ actions, no troopers or members of the public were injured. The pursuit came to an end near FM 620 in Cedar Park when the suspect vehicle crashed. Troopers quickly and safely took all four suspects into custody. A 9mm handgun believed to have been used during the incident was recovered. DOWNTOWN CROWN RETAIL THEFT CREW BUSTED: Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department - Investigative Section have arrested 26-year-old Mone Herndon of Washington D.C., 26-year-old Shawn Stewart of Washington D.C., 18-year-old Precious Spivey of Washington D.C., and a 17-year-old of Washington D.C. for felony theft related charges. In collaboration with Lululemon, detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department - Investigative Section have been working inside and around the business to address recent felony theft related incidents. On February 19, 2025 at 2:15 p.m., detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department - Investigative Section and Street Crimes Unit were at the Lululemon in the 100 block of Crown Park Avenue working the retail theft detail when they observed four unknown females enter the business, split up, and bearhug multiple items. The four suspects then made their way to the door without paying. One suspect was apprehended at the door and the three others fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the three other suspects were apprehended in the area of the Harris Teeter located in the 300 block of Copley Place. The four suspects stole over $10,000 worth of items from the business. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the four suspects had also committed a felony theft over $1,500 at the Bath & Body Works in Germantown. The four suspects are also being charged with retail thefts that occurred earlier this year at the Lululemon, along with a theft at the Lenscrafters located in the unit block of Grand Corner Avenue in Gaithersburg, MD. Herndon, Stewart, and Spivey were transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center and the 17-year-old was released to their parents. Through surveillance, search warrants, and follow-up investigation, Detectives identified the suspect as 35-year-old Anthony Vargas. Investigators determined Vargas made it a daily routine to steal in the morning, then rotate pawn shops selling brand new items in the box, with little to no questions asked. Surveillance showed pawn shop employees reviewing repeated, identical items from Vargas’s truck before purchase. Search warrants at pawn shops recovered over $10,000 in stolen merchandise and indicated the scope of thefts may be greater than initially known. Vargas was arrested for multiple counts of PC 487 (Grand Theft) and PC 490.4 (Organized Retail Theft), with bail set at $100,000. On April 15, 2026, he was released on his own recognizance with pre-trial probation, ordered to stay away from all Home Depot and Lowe’s locations in Sacramento County. Four years ago on Fox News, I warned that Rite Aid and Duane Reade would eventually shut down across New York City because of organized retail theft. That warning has come true. Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy in May 2025, and today my neighborhood location — the one that was constantly looted — has officially shut down. This closure is devastating for residents. It was the last and only pharmacy in the area where people with asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and other serious health conditions could get their prescriptions. Sheriff Waters was picking up an order at customer service when a store employee flagged him down. A man was attempting to leave the store with roughly $500 in merchandise. Sheriff Waters and a retired robbery detective chased the man. When the Sheriff tried to grab him by his sweatshirt, the man twisted away. The Sheriff pursued him to the edge of the parking lot, where he took him to the ground. The man struggled to get away and resisted, but with the help of the retired detective, they were able to get him into handcuffs as shoppers cheered them on. District 2 Patrol officers responded quickly and took over the investigation. The suspect has been identified as Raymond Pena, Jr. of Jacksonville (40). He is charged with theft and resisting. He also had two active warrants for theft. “Just because I was elected sheriff doesn’t mean I’m no longer a policeman,” said Sheriff Waters, who recently cited a teenager for littering. The Sheriff and detective were not injured in the scuffle. Sheriff Waters says he will always do what he can to protect the city.
