Last night in Kawangware, I met this man whom I initially thought was a security guard. After speaking with him, I later came to learn that he is a Nigerian national currently living on the streets. Whenever I meet someone living on the streets, I always take time to engage with them, understand their story, and learn how they ended up there. My goal is always to see how best I can help them rebuild their lives. During our conversation, he shared that he came to Kenya after receiving a promise of sponsorship from his cousin to continue his education here. However, after only two weeks in the country, his cousin who had promised to support him left for the United States without enrolling him in school, leaving him stranded in Kenya. As we continued talking, he explained how he struggled to survive and eventually ended up living on the streets. He has now been on the streets for about two years. In one of the videos I recorded, a lady reached out to me and said she recognized him. According to her, they once lived in the same apartment building. She narrated how the man had been in a relationship with a lady who allegedly took everything he owned. This incident deeply affected him, pushing him into depression and eventually to the streets. The man also shared that at one point he worked in Dubai, where he used to send money back home to support his parents in Nigeria. However, when he later returned home, he claims he discovered that he had been deceived by the very people he trusted. He gave me his parentsโ€™ contact, although we were not able to fully hear their side of the story. Currently, his travel documents have expired, and he expressed that his biggest wish is to renew them so that he can return home to Nigeria and start life again. I offered to use my platform to help fundraise for the renewal of his documents, as he personally requested. He also asked if I could help him secure any form of work so that he could at least sustain himself as he waits to regularize his documents. However, after spending time with him and assessing his situation, it became clear to me that he urgently needs mental health support, as he appears to be struggling with depression. I therefore decided that the following morning I would take him to a private rehabilitation center where professionals could assess him and offer the help he needs. After we agreed on this plan, I took him to a hotel where he could spend the night safely. I paid for his room and food, intending to pick him up the following morning and take him for rehabilitation. Unfortunately, later in the morning I received a call from the hotel attendant informing me that although the man had slept well, he left the guest house very early in a hurry. Later reports indicated that he had been seen back on the streets. Since then, efforts to locate and rescue him have not been successful. I am informed that he rarely accepts help from people, which makes the situation even more challenging. If anyone happens to see or locate him, please kindly contact me through +254707946783 so that we can assist him, take him for rehabilitation, and help facilitate his return to his home country. I am also appealing to his fellow Nigerians living in Kenya, those back in Nigeria, and well-wishers both in Kenya and abroad come through for him and support the effort to give this man a second chance in life. Sometimes, all someone needs is a small opportunity and a caring community to stand with them. Let us help him find his way back home.

๐ŸšจWOW!!! A homeless veteran loved his dog so much he gave him up after he couldn't feed him... giving him to a fire station with a note that read, "please help my baby." The firefighters adopted the dog. Then they found the vet living in a tent... and GAVE HIM A HOME TOO!!! Early one morning, firefighters in Fort Worth walked outside their station and found a pitbull named Jake chained to the flagpole and beside him, was a handwritten note. It was from a 65-year-old disabled veteran named Tom. He'd been living in a homeless camp for 20 months, ever since his landlord wouldn't renew his lease. He was trying to claw his way to a better life, but he couldn't do it and care for his dog at the same time. So he made the hardest decision of his life and in that note, he begged: "I have nothing but my baby Jake. If you have a soul and really care about helping babies, please help my baby." He gave up the only thing he had left in this world... because he loved that dog too much to watch him suffer. The firefighters didn't just take Jake in. They ADOPTED him. He's the station dog now, showered with love, "a boost in morale," they said. But they didn't stop there. The department's homeless outreach team went looking for Tom and they FOUND HIM in his camp. They got him medical care, and then a veterans nonprofit, Operation Texas Strong, stepped up and gave this old soldier an RV and a place to live. A man who had NOTHING gave up his last companion to save him... ...and a community turned around and saved them BOTH. As the man who housed him said: "No veteran should ever be homeless anywhere in the United States." This is the country I know, the one that doesn't leave a solider or his dog behind!!!!! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

This painting shows the most heartbreaking reunion in all of literature. To understand it, you have to know who the dog is... His name is Argos, and he belongs to Ulysses, the Greek hero also known as Odysseus. Before Ulysses sailed away to fight in the Trojan War, he had raised Argos from a puppy, a fast and beautiful hunting dog. Then the war called, and Ulysses left. He would not come home for twenty years. When Ulysses finally set foot on his own island again, he came in disguise, dressed as a beggar, so that no one would know him. His house was full of men trying to steal his wife and his kingdom. To survive, he had to remain a stranger in his own home. No one recognized him. Not his loyal servants. Not the people who had known him all his life. But lying in the dirt by the gate, old and forgotten, covered in ticks, too weak to stand, was a dog. Argos had waited twenty years. And the moment he saw him, he knew. He was the only one. Nearly blind, half dead, he lifted his head and pricked up his ears, and he wagged his tail for the master he had never stopped waiting for. Ulysses saw him. And because he was in disguise, surrounded by enemies, he could not run to him, could not kneel down, could not say his name. He could only look at his old friend and, turning his face away so no one would see, let a single tear fall. And then, in Homer's own words, "the dark shadow of death closed down on Argos' eyes, the instant he had seen Odysseus, twenty years away." He had held on to life for one reason only: he was waiting to see him come home. And the moment he did, he could finally let go... It is such a beautiful painting, and the look on that dog's face is so universal, so instantly understood by anyone who has ever loved and waited, that it is enough to bring a grown man to tears.

Former Navy Seal, Doctor, and Astronaut, Jonny Kim (2020) recalls the day his drunk father pulled a gun on the family, and why fighting back left him feeling reborn "When my father diedโ€ฆ I feel like it was the day I was reborn into someone else." "I think maybe he felt corneredโ€ฆ and cornered animals can be dangerous." "On this particular dayโ€ฆ February 21st, 2002โ€ฆ my father came homeโ€ฆ I could smell the whiskey on his breath, so I knew he was very intoxicated." "Some of the last words he said to me was, 'I'm sorry, Jonathan.' And he pepper-sprayed my face." "All I hear in the kitchen is my mother screaming for help and saying, 'he's got a gun.'" "I did my best to fight him and get that gunโ€ฆ as strong as I guess a 140-pound kid could doโ€ฆ But I lost that fight. I still have a scarโ€ฆ from when my father was able to get a hold of a dumbbell nearby and smash my head in with it." "I clearly remember saying that it's not too late. You have the power to decide right now. It's not too late." "I told him to go run, just run. And he didโ€ฆ that was the last time I saw my father." "I told police that I think my father's still in the house and he's in the atticโ€ฆ shots were fired and my father was killed." "I don't mean to sound callous, but in a lot of ways it liberated meโ€ฆ it liberated myself and my brother." "It taught me I'm not the scared little boy I thought I wasโ€ฆ I can be a part of something bigger than myself." "The detectiveโ€ฆ said, 'Son, I'm sorry to tell you, but your father is dead.'โ€ฆ 'I take it that this is not bad news? Is this good?' And I saidโ€ฆ 'I'm just relieved, sir.' And he said, 'I understand, son.'" "It's just a dayโ€ฆ that helped me be reborn into the person I wanted to become."

โ€œWe had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun but the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of timeโ€ฆ โ€œ Born in 2002 sired by Gaylord (GY) in an army depot. Rejected by the army for his size and to cover up a botched up eye worm operation. This one eyed little horse was auctioned and bought by a tanga wala. A quick phone call from a Colonel Dahiya to a Colonel Ahlawat about the promise being wasted pulling Tangas all his life saved him from that life. The Colonel saab reluctant to sell his wonder baby had to pay EMIs and he came into my life outta sheer destiny and made my life so much richer. I named him Ranji coz of his one eye like Maharaja Ranjit Singh Gaekwar (Ranji trophy is named after him). Due to his free upbringing by the Colonel he turned out to be a free spirited and a naughty child. He jumped out or crawled out of all kinds of stables we put him in. With his childlike vivacious personality there was never a dull moment with him around. Always wanting to be running free. He jumped that way too. He took me flying over many an obstacle, sometimes with my eyes shut for the scare of it and won me many a medal. He was always way superior to my riding skills at the time but he carried me well. Unfortunately he contacted Laminitis in his prime years. A disease due to which most horses are euthanised. I just gave him some time and thanks to Dr Pheroz Khambatta he bounced back and was jumping again. A very rare case. Many a times complications rose in due course and the horrible question of putting him down raised its head. All I said was โ€œletโ€™s give him some time.โ€ He always bounced back like the little tennis ball he was thanks to his loving grooms over the years, Khem Singh, the many Bhoom Singhs, Revat Singh, Megh Singh and Sumer Singh. He finally passed on to the other realm at 23 years old which is like in the 90s in horse years. He still needed two grooms to hold him when taken for a walk coz he was still so full of spirit. He even tried to jump out of the stable on his last night as if he wanted to fly away. And Fly away he did. Heartbroken and almost not wanting to keep horses anymore I bid you farewell my dear trusted friend. My Ranji. We just ran out time brother. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿค—
