Your ego (the voice that says “this is me~this is how I think”) acts like a strict dictator It kills or rejects any new idea that didn’t come from your own head or your own life experience. It hates anything “foreign” Reading a really powerful book is like a revolution~ It destroys your old way of seeing yourself~and replaces it with completely different ways of thinking that come from someone else After you finish a book~your mind is no longer ruled by just one point of view Now many different strong ideas are living inside you at the same time~ and they don’t agree with each other They’re all still there~fighting for influence~and none of them disappear. Staying mentally healthy and balanced afterward is just a temporary peace agreement between all these warring ideas inside your head You learn to let them coexist instead of letting one win complete To be continued…

So does walking in the woods or on the beach at low tide.

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies," said Jojen. "The man who never reads lives only one." ... George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons. I’ve read both fiction and non-fiction, lots of history, fantasy, sci-fi, and adventure. As a child, One Thousand and One Nights made me imagine myself riding a green silk carpet, and I truly lived through The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Those stories opened my mind to how other people think and feel. Looking back now as an adult, I realize they gave me something even more valuable, an empathy.

Did he literally explain it though? Like, literally??

you can read on a device but there are so many distractions and who wants to take a device to the beach? & the long read is deffo best from the printed page, where u can stop and peruse w'out an email or a screensaver distracting you

Same goes for movies. At least it was back then when movies and cartoon were better

So so true!!! We need more exposure to different lives, places, ways of thinking and being and books are such a wonderful, easy way to acquire it!

are movies / documentaries not doing the same thing - taking you in a different world for some time, so you forget your own reality for that time.

"In a hole in the ground, there lived a Hobbit." ~The Hobbit, JRR Tolkien. Precursor to The Lord of the Rings. If I ever ask anyone to just read one book, it's The Hobbit. Friendship, family, adventure. Yeah, that's GOAT energy, right there.

@blackmonolith

@grok dame resumen muy detallado de todo lo que dice

Can we stop it with the "literally's" please‽

Exactly that ! 👏

Some people read allot of books, other just read allot of people. Be curious about stories and your life will for always change for the good of it.

@grok Give me a transcript of this video

@grok Give me some books that Robert Greene probably refers to in this video.

Word

He can speak for himself.

Changer

So good.

When you read a book you get to transport yourself into the mind of another.

🎯

You said he literally explained it but all I am seeing is him verbally explaining it.

It’s like playing video games or watching porn. You can read all you want but when you close it you still broke

You don't have to say it

Literally?

@grok did Robert Greene write a paper about this? Where can I find more info?

Do movies have the same effect?

so... only books do this? i'm a bit confused here. pretty sure that a lot of things can have the same effect.

Very good stuff, this.

Reminds me of a sketch from the late great Bill Hicks "We got ourselves a reader" 😁
