I’m pleased to report that the first ever surgeon led IDE pilot study of the DaVinci Single Port Robot for Foregut and HPB operations has successfully started at AdventHealth Tampa. Our first patient underwent Cholecystectomy through a 12mm incision hidden in the belly button. The operation went very smoothly without any intra-operative complications. This is an exciting time to be able to offer operations we used to do through a single incision laparoscopically now through a fully robotic approach with incredible precision and visualization. We have come a long way with this brilliant technology. Applying this state of the art innovation to gradually more complex operations, I believe will optimize patients surgical outcomes. 📢 Announcing one of the most exciting works from us this year on **scalable robot policy evaluation through real-to-sim transfer**, moving toward a scalable evaluation engine with structured world models that capture the appearance, geometry, and dynamics of environments involving deformable objects. 🤖 Evaluation remains one of the biggest bottlenecks in building general-purpose robots. Today, robots are still evaluated only in the real world, which is **orders of magnitude slower** than the development of language agents. We propose a new framework where simulation performance **strongly correlates** with the real world (r > 0.9), even for deformable objects. The key difference from existing work lies in the correlation between simulation and reality: if a robot model performs better in the digital world, does it also perform better in the real world? This question has long made people hesitant about simulation-based evaluation — especially for deformable objects. We are changing that. Our pipeline achieves effective real-to-sim transfer, establishing **state-of-the-art correlation** between simulation and reality for deformable object manipulation. It provides a **scalable and reproducible evaluation engine** for robot learning. 🌐

I am humbled to share a significant milestone in pancreatic surgery: I recently performed the first-ever da Vinci single-port robotic distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy without an additional incision for pancreatic cancer in the United States, approved by both the Institutional Review Board and IDE from the FDA through a 2cm incision inside the belly button leaving no additional scar. This pioneering procedure not only achieved negative margins but also allowed for the thorough harvesting of all local lymphatics, a critical factor in ensuring comprehensive cancer treatment. I am grateful to report that the patient is doing exceptionally well, and it was a privilege to see him in the clinic several days post-operation. The images included illustrate the operating room moments and a snapshot of our follow-up clinic visit with my remarkable ARNP Dana Manzi and myself. This journey underscores the importance of innovation in surgical techniques and the profound impact they can have on patient outcomes. Thank you to everyone who has supported and believed in this work.
