The Convair F-106 Delta Dart was one seriously badass Cold War interceptor... it could carry the AIR-2 Genie, an unguided rocket with a 1.5-kiloton nuclear warhead, designed to wipe out entire formations of incoming Soviet bombers in one shot. The pilot would fire it and haul ass to get clear of the blast. Later some got upgraded with a 20mm cannon instead. Wild to think about the era when fighters packed that kind of punch just to protect the homeland. Aviation history never gets old.
