ROCKY written by and starring Sylvester Stallone hit screens on this day in 1976. It would go on to become the top grossing film of the year and win three of its ten Academy Award Nominations including Best Picture. I don’t know how many times I saw this film growing up, but it was A LOT! Its success and impact highlighted the power of popular culture as I know I am certainly not the only one inspired by Rocky’s journey. Happy Birthday Rocky! And thank you to Sylvester Stallone for creating one of the most iconic and inspirational characters in film history! “Keep Punching!” Who’s watching Rocky tonight to celebrate?

Today, war has become an unfortunate necessity for us in response to a certain situation. However, as a Nation and as a People we must always keep this quality about us that we are not ruled by hatred and we never take pleasure in violence towards anyone for any reason. At the same time, we have a duty and a Responsibility toward our own people to address certain situations and that is what the Nation is doing. This is not a war of hate but one of necessity. 15 days ago, Rocky came in as close to death as is possible for a dog to be. It has been a battle to get him back into shape but I think you will agree that he is looking fantastic. People often ask me how you put up with the cruelty when you deal with dogs and it's a very good question. The answer actually comes from dogs themselves. You have to take it one day at a time. What has happened in the past is the past. All we can do, just like dogs, is enjoy the moment and the day that we have. Today was a gorgeous sunny Sunday and myself and Rocky had smoked salmon. He followed me for a proper walk down Hope Avenue. He had lots of belly rubs and he was as gentle and kind as a dog could be. Sometimes you just have to forget about what's happened in the past and not look too far into the future. We're all very guilty of it but Rocky has taught me to enjoy the moment, the present. He’s a very good boy is our Rocky ❤️

One of Charlie’s favorite clips was of Rush Limbaugh describing the Godly gratitude of the Pilgrims. He played it every year on the show as a tribute to Rush and as a reminder that real gratitude comes from God and a knowledge that even when facing unthinkable loss and hardship, God is still all good, all loving, all knowing, and all powerful.
