21 year old Jackson Koivun played a full season at college before turning pro to join the PGA Tour. He has now joined Tiger Woods as the only players to ever make it to the FedExCup playoffs in just 5 starts. After finishing T29 at the Wyndham Championship to secure his spot in Memphis, he was asked what his goals were when he turned pro: “I mean, obviously I wanted to make the Playoffs and I knew that was a farfetched goal. If I told myself back in June that I would be sitting at 70 and waiting it out in Greensboro, I think I'd be pretty happy.” He then spoke about what it’s like to be in the record books alongside Tiger Woods: “It's pretty cool. Obviously whenever you're in the record books with Tiger it's a good name to get acquainted with.” He was also asked why it was so important to make it to the Playoffs: “At the end of the day it's kind of the season-long goal, to make the Playoffs. Obviously starting a little late is definitely a hiccup in the road, but to be able to be in this position's really cool.” Jackson came out of college with an enormous amount of hype, but after winning in his 4th pro start and making history by earning a spot in the Playoffs in just 5 starts, he’s living up to the hype so far. The BMW Championship set a record tournament attendance for a Thursday yesterday of 27k at Bellerive, with huge crowds again today. Rory McIlroy was asked about how good the fans were after his round of 69 today to currently sit in T8: “Yeah, they're amazing. As I said yesterday, that's one of the biggest things I remember from being here in 2018 for the PGA was just how many people showed up and what a great atmosphere it was to play in. Yeah, yesterday was amazing for a Thursday. Today, teeing off at 9:45 on a Friday morning and the people out there was incredible. Rory McIlroy was asked by Bob Harig whether he was surprised that the PIF pulled the funding to LIV Golf. His immediate reaction was to joke that he “loves talking about this,” but then when the question developed he gave a thoughtful answer and said he is “glad” he was wrong to suggest the PGA Tour do a deal with the PIF and also said he knew about it in March/April, before players on LIV did. Rory McIlroy came into the first FedExCup Playoff event from a long layoff. He then shot rounds of 74, 70, 72 and 72 to finish 66th. After the final round, he reacted to the week: “Obviously didn't come in here with a ton of reps, almost felt like the more the week went on, the more I felt lost with my golf swing a little bit. “I figured it out a little bit the last few holes today, I think. Yeah, I just sort of -- yeah, swing wasn't in sync and obviously didn't do a ton of practice coming in here. “I guess nice to shake the rust off a little bit, but I'm going to have to work pretty hard between now and next Thursday to feel like I have any sort of golf game to compete next week.” He then spoke about what he is going to do in preparation for the BMW Championship next week: “ I'm going to go home. I'll work with Michael and Harry. Yeah, just try to get the swing into some sort of better sync and better flow. Then, yeah, go to Bellerive Tuesday and obviously try to prepare for that golf course. “Yeah, to me it's more about obviously the execution of what I'm doing right now, and the execution wasn't there this week. As I said, I'm going to have to sort of put the head down and grind from now until Thursday to try to feel like I have any sort of chance next week.” Even after a tough week, Rory is still projected 13th on the FedExCup standings and should comfortably make it to the Tour Championship.
