Although we’ve (rightfully) become accustomed to seeing a fully CG Yoda in the Prequel Trilogy, there’s still something so special about the Yoda puppet originally used in The Phantom Menace. The technological breakthroughs made throughout this trilogy are still nothing short of incredible, but I feel like Frank Oz’s original puppeteering adds a layer of emotion and sincerity for all of Yoda’s scenes in Episode I that ultimately greatly benefit the final film. Would love to see a restoration of the theatrical version of this film from 1999 one of these days.

James Gray’s latest film Paper Tiger is earning a lot of early Oscar buzz, which makes me happy considering Gray has never really received the recognition he deserves over the course of his career. Take the 2019 film Ad Astra. This is a beautiful movie & Gray directed the Hell out of this film. Also a great performance from Brad Pitt & one of Donald Sutherland’s last performances.

A message from the commander of the 45th Separate Guards Spetsnaz Brigade of the VDV, Colonel Vadim Ivanovich Pan’kov, addressed to his reconnaissance troops after returning from Gostomel, along with a few more clips filmed after they pulled out from that axis. Interesting, considering that our “reliable sources” had been “explaining” to us that: – None of the Russian special forces actually survived the Gostomel siege. – And that they didn’t even capture the airfield in the first place (an even more amusing version). Yes, you can clearly see in this short video how the first beta versions of Putin’s necromancers performed. Truly impressive work. 👏🏻

The only problem I have with Rowan Atkinson as a stand-up comedian is that he’s never done enough of it. And maybe that’s a good thing? After all, one of the reasons Fawlty Towers is so admired (apart from it being incredibly funny) is that they quit while they were ahead. With Rowan, stand-up has always been an occasional thing and he was at his most active in the early to mid 1980’s. When it happened though, you knew it was going to be good. This routine was actually recorded in 1992 and the entire show was written by Rowan and Richard Curtis. The whole thing’s on YouTube. Just search Rowan Atkinson Live, 1992. Happy Friday, fellow sinners!
