Pune: Kalepadal Police Book 15 Individuals And Garage Operators For Modified ‘Pataka’ Silencers, Seize 11 Motorcycles After Midnight Biker Menace Kalepadal Police have registered a criminal case against 18 individuals, including 15 motorcycle riders and three garage operators, for allegedly creating panic by riding motorcycles fitted with illegal modified "Pataka" silencers that produced deafening firecracker-like sounds in Mohammadwadi and surrounding areas. Police have seized 11 motorcycles and destroyed the illegal modified silencers. The action follows multiple complaints from residents after a group of bikers allegedly rode recklessly between 11 pm on July 31 and 5 am on August 1 across Kad Nagar Chowk, Nyati Chowk, Raheja Vista Chowk, Undri, and Mohammadwadi, revving modified silencers that emitted explosive sounds. Videos of the riders were widely circulated on social media, prompting public outrage. According to police, several residents contacted the Kalepadal Police Station, stating that the loud noises created an atmosphere of fear during the night, with elderly citizens and children being startled awake. Acting on the complaints, a special police team gathered technical evidence and intelligence to identify the bikers. Based on the investigation, police traced the suspects and registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Motor Vehicles Act, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules for reckless driving, creating public nuisance, and using illegal vehicle modifications. Police seized 11 motorcycles, most of them Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles fitted with modified exhaust systems designed to produce loud firecracker-like sounds. The illegal silencers were removed and destroyed. The investigation also revealed that three garage operators had allegedly installed the modified silencers on the motorcycles. Cases have been registered against the garage owners for facilitating the illegal modifications. #PunePolice #Undri #Mohamadwadi #pune #bulletsilencers

Sleepless in Fursungi: Residents Terrorized by Midnight Bike Roars and Reckless Stunts In the early hours of May 14, just a day after a bomb scare in the area, residents of Fursungi were jolted awake by the deafening noise of modified motorcycles racing through the streets. Between 2:30 am and 6:30 am, bikers repeatedly sped from Bhekrai Nagar bus stop to the Power House railway bridge, revving illegal silencers and firing loud exhaust bursts that left citizens frightened and unable to sleep. This is not an isolated incident. Residents of societies including Green County Phases 1 and 2, Solitaire, Nalanda Nagri, and Florence say such disturbances have become a regular nightmare. Open spaces behind Green County are reportedly being used almost nightly for birthday celebrations, alcohol consumption, dangerous bike stunts, and social media reel-making activities. Back in July 2023, Pune Times Mirror had already highlighted the growing nuisance. “We have repeatedly complained to authorities and even informed the landowner, but no concrete action has been taken,” said Rahul Wautre, a resident of Green County. Residents claim they contacted police helpline 113 and visited Gadital police station, only to be redirected to the locked Fursungi police station. The relentless noise from modified silencers severely affects senior citizens, children, and patients by disturbing sleep and creating fear late at night. Although Pune Traffic Police have launched drives against illegal exhausts, penalizing over 3,000 riders and crushing confiscated silencers, locals say stricter night patrolling and immediate enforcement are urgently needed to restore peace in Fursungi.
