Due to the West Asia crisis, our imports have been affected, about 40% of crude, 90% of LPG, and nearly 65% of natural gas. However, every effort is being made to ensure a smooth domestic supply of petroleum products. Refinery #LPG production has been increased and is now reaching around 50,000 tonnes per day Regarding #PNG connections, 7.99 lakh connections have been gasified. About 2.87 lakh connections are ready for gas supply as infrastructure has already been created, and more than 8.27 lakh customers have registered for PNG connections. For domestic LPG cooking gas supply, about 1.72 crore cylinders have been delivered in the last four days against bookings of 1.66 crore, with 95% of deliveries completed with authentication codes. #WATCH | Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, the Central Government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, to ensure the uninterrupted availability of natural gas and LPG. The Act empowers the government to regulate the production, supply, distribution and trade of essential commodities and take strict action against hoarding, black marketing and violations. LPG cylinders have been declared an essential commodity, and authorities are closely monitoring supplies across the country. The government has also directed efforts to increase LPG production, prioritise supply for essential sectors and diversify import routes to maintain energy security. State governments have been empowered to impose stock limits, conduct inspections and take punitive action against illegal stockpiling. Officials have urged the public not to indulge in panic booking or rely on rumours circulating on social media, reiterating that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG cylinders in the country. The Centre and states are working in coordination to ensure stable supply, fair prices and equitable distribution of essential commodities, while strict action will be taken against anyone involved in hoarding or black marketing. It should be noted that India was previously importing approximately 60 per cent of its #LPG requirements from Gulf countries such as Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait and 40 per cent is produced domestically. Procurement has now been actively diversified, with cargoes being secured from the United States, Norway, Canada, Algeria, and Russia, in addition to available Gulf sources. The LPG Control Order issued on 8 March 2026 directed all refineries to maximise LPG yields and channel the entire output of C3 and C4 hydrocarbon streams, comprising propane, butane, propylene, and butenes, exclusively to the three Oil Marketing Companies for domestic cooking gas. Hence, in the last 5 days, LPG production has been increased by 28 per cent through refinery directives, and further procurement is actively underway. The Government’s foremost priority is that the kitchens of India’s 33+ crore families, especially the poor and the underprivileged, do not face any shortage. Domestic supply is fully protected and the delivery cycle is unchanged. The standard time from booking to delivery for domestic LPG cylinders remains 2.5 days, unchanged from pre-crisis norms. Hospitals and educational institutions have been placed on uninterrupted priority supply; their access to LPG is fully assured regardless of broader demand conditions. - Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri's address in the Lok Sabha #EnergySecurity

Let's look at the hard data on how the Modi Govt is actively managing the LPG supply chain: 👉 India imports nearly 65% of its LPG, and overwhelmingly 90% of that comes through the volatile Strait of Hormuz. 👉 On March 8, 2026, the Govt directed refineries to divert propane, butane, and propylene streams directly to the LPG pool. 👉 This immediate intervention ramped up domestic LPG production by approximately 25% literally overnight. 👉 The entire output of this newly increased domestic production is being sent straight to households so consumers don't suffer. 👉 Overall installed power generation capacity has more than doubled since 2014, providing a massive buffer and ensuring no overall energy shortages. Instead of coming up with ideas like shutting down petrol pumps at 8 PM to control oil usage, Modi Govt is actually trying to find the real solution.

#WATCH | Delhi: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, says, "We have no supply-side problems. Today, the country has more than enough stocks of crude oil, LNG and LPG. When this crisis began, there were some concerns, but we converted the challenge into an opportunity. We have ramped up our domestic production of LPG, which used to be 36,000 metric tons per day. We have now taken it up to 54,000 metric tons per day. You must have seen that there are no shortages anywhere. In the last four years, there has been no increase in prices. We don't know how long the blockades or counter-blockades in the Strait of Hormuz will continue. But I can tell you categorically that today we are in a situation where, unlike other countries in the world, which have had to either face severe problems in terms of availability and supply or where prices have gone up 50-60 per cent. The Prime Minister's statement is very visionary. It looks to the future that if this were to continue, we also have to look at what we can do in terms of lifestyle changes. It's not that something is going to happen. That's all negative, panic-creating activity. I review the situation every day, along with the CMDs of the oil sector for an hour or an hour and a half. There is absolutely no cause for anxiety. My oil companies are losing 1000 crores a day. So we will have to start worrying about these things. Some demand for LPG has come down. It used to be 90,000 metric tons. It has come down to 75. Some of it is because of the temperature. But even otherwise, I think the prudent supply and demand side, we have done very well, and I have no reason to believe that we will not do well in the future. Please listen to what the Prime Minister said, and it's a very visionary statement."

Around 20% of the world’s energy passes through this region, making it crucial for India, which imports nearly 40% of its crude oil, 90% of its #LPG, and 65% of its natural gas from the Middle East. Rising global prices have pushed crude oil from around $70 to nearly $120 per barrel, while LPG prices have also surged. Despite the losses faced by oil marketing companies, the Government of India has worked to protect consumers by reducing excise duty, increasing LPG production, promoting #PNG connections, and ensuring stable gas supplies. Petrol prices in India remain around ₹94.77 per litre, compared to nearly ₹200 per litre in countries such as Germany, France, and the UK. The government has also ensured an uninterrupted LPG supply, with no distributor facing shortages. - Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas #MoPNG

Congress’ fake propaganda on the LPG issue has now been completely exposed. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has placed the actual facts on record in Parliament, and they demolish the panic narrative being pushed by Congress leaders and their ecosystem. In just the last five days, LPG production has already been increased by 28%, and additional procurement is underway to further strengthen supply. The priority of the Modi Government is clear — the kitchens of India’s 33 crore families must not face any shortage. Despite the rumours being spread, the booking-to-delivery time remains around 2.5 days, exactly the same as before. Field reports clearly show that the rush seen in a few places is not because LPG supply has failed, but because panic booking and hoarding were triggered by fake news and misinformation. At the same time, the system is becoming even stricter: • 90% of deliveries will now be OTP verified, making diversion almost impossible • Minimum booking gap introduced to prevent panic demand • Monitoring teams active at distributor level to stop misuse In short: there is no LPG shortage. Supply is stable and fully managed. But Congress is doing what it always does — spreading fear and fake narratives. Yesterday, Congress leaders circulated a photograph of long LPG queues on social media to attack the government and claim there is a shortage. The truth? That photo was from 2011 during the Congress era, when such queues were actually common. And the hypocrisy doesn’t end there. In Parliament, Rahul Gandhi submits a notice to speak on one issue, but when given the opportunity, he switches to something completely unrelated, disrupts the House, and then runs outside claiming he was “not allowed to speak.” This is the Congress playbook: Spread panic → push fake narratives → disrupt Parliament → then play the victim. India’s LPG supply is stable. The system is functioning normally. New India is prepared. Don’t fall for Congress’ propaganda.
