#WATCH | Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, the Central Government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, to ensure the uninterrupted availability of natural gas and LPG. The Act empowers the government to regulate the production, supply, distribution and trade of essential commodities and take strict action against hoarding, black marketing and violations. LPG cylinders have been declared an essential commodity, and authorities are closely monitoring supplies across the country. The government has also directed efforts to increase LPG production, prioritise supply for essential sectors and diversify import routes to maintain energy security. State governments have been empowered to impose stock limits, conduct inspections and take punitive action against illegal stockpiling. Officials have urged the public not to indulge in panic booking or rely on rumours circulating on social media, reiterating that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG cylinders in the country. About 1.1 lakh cylinders were sold yesterday, taking total sales to nearly 8.9 lakh since March 23. Domestic needs remain prioritised, with fertiliser plants receiving about 95 percent gas supply. Domestic LPG supply remains normal with 98% online bookings, while commercial LPG is 70% restored, with around 1,06,000 tonnes sold since 14 March and 6,000 to 6,500 tonnes sold daily. Support measures include doubling 5 kg cylinder supply without ID, with around 1 lakh sold daily and 11 lakh since 23 March, alongside over 2,400 awareness camps. Refineries are operating at high capacity with adequate crude and sufficient petrol, diesel and #LPG supplies, with all retail outlets functioning normally. Panic buying triggered by rumours was addressed through official clarifications, and citizens are urged to avoid such behaviour. The government is also accelerating PNG expansion, directing connections for key institutions within five days where infrastructure exists Despite some geopolitical impact on LPG, stocks remain sufficient with no dry-out and normal deliveries. Commercial LPG allocation has been increased by 50%, prioritising essential sectors, with most states issuing orders. Enforcement has intensified to curb hoarding, with thousands of raids and strict action taken.
