Running macOS 26.1 and noticing the file browser is painfully slow when closing, saving, or opening files. Plenty of SSD space and no memory-hogging apps. Restart didn’t help. Anyone else seeing this?

I feel for Austin McCarl. Danny Sam's motor didn't take off on any of the starts.. not even single file restart. Ticky-tacky. Hell there was even a caution for someone else on this start. Re-rack and try again. There is no need for a penalty.

Built a native macOS viewer for ledger plain-text accounting file format. Most expense tracking apps are built around lock-in. Proprietary formats, mandatory accounts, servers you don't control. When their VC funding dries up, they shut down or pivot, and you start over. Plain-text accounting takes the opposite approach: your finances live in a .ledger file. Open it in vim. Query it with awk. Put it in git and get a full audit trail of every change you've ever made. It's just a plain text file. Ledge is just a lens over that file. Fast, native, no cloud. And now ladies and gentlemen; The Beatles! Me today, running down the alleyway and out into the sunlight of Stand on the Green in Chiswick and turning to face The City Barge pub on the river. In 1965, the Beatles when filming Help! ran down this very alleyway and into this pub. It is almost exactly the same today as it was then. They were accompanied by bagpipers however, which I didn’t have to hand today. Anyway, I thought you might enjoy seeing it.

This is the fastest way I’ve found to send huge files without compression across the world. It’s called Blip. A file transfer app that lets you send massive files directly from your device to someone else’s. No cloud upload first. No waiting for a download link. No file size panic. No video quality getting destroyed. No “upgrade your storage” nonsense. Just pick the file and send it. One of the dumbest Canadian politicians on the geopolitics file is Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew who thinks the war in Iran is because of Epstein files: "​I hope this war in Iran ends. Even the Trump administration cannot explain why they're at war in Iran right now. And I mean, like, the Epstein file seems to be as good of a reason as anyone else can think of." You have to be completely disconnected from reality to be this ignorant. Don't remember him being upset about the Islamic Regime slaughtering tens of thousands and funding terrorism. And if he wants to protect kids, and I hope he does, he should focus on what is going on in his province.

The latest loophole that third-party file manager apps were using to get access to files and folders under /Android/data and /Android/obb has been patched. As part of Android 11's Scoped Storage restrictions, apps that use the Storage Access Framework (SAF) to launch the documents picker are not supposed to be able to get access to files and folders under the /Android/data or /Android/obb directories. However, third-party file managers figured out that if they set the initial directory when launching the documents picker to either /Android/data or /Android/obb, the documents picker lets the user grant the app full access to directories. This loophole was patched in Android 13, but then another loophole was discovered that got around this. Since Android 13 only blocked apps from setting /Android/data or /Android/obb as the initial directory when launching the documents picker, it was quickly discovered that you could set the initial directory to one of the subdirectories under /Android/data or /Android/obb, thus the user could grant access to individual subdirectories one-by-one. However, this latest loophole was patched with a recent Google Play System Update. The latest version of the DocumentsUI app, the Project Mainline module that comprises the documents picker, now restricts the initial location for the ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT/_TREE intent so that apps cannot request the initial location to be one of /Android/data, /Android/sandbox, /Android/obb, or one of their subdirectories. If the DocumentsUI app (AKA 'Files' app) on your device is on version 14-10492947 (version code 340916000), then this loophole is patched.

An entire community, in old freedman’s town, called Sand Branch—no running water and poison in their wells. Democrats have been in power 30 years, yet this mostly black and poor community is absolutely neglected. When I’m in Congress, I’m going to make sure that the people of Sand Branch get running water.
